Our respect for Amanda Seyfried as both an actress and as a masterful player of the game has increased tremendously over the past few years. She skipped the Golden Globes this year (something far too few nominees did, given how tainted those awards are) and when she won the award, she managed to set the internet on fire with the announcement that she couldn’t attend because she’s workshopping a new musical. Of course everyone immediately assumed it was Mamma Mia 3, but it turned out to be an even more intriguing project than that. She’s working on a Thelma and Louise musical with Evan Rachel Wood. She kept herself free from the taint of the Golden Globes and she set everyone a-twitter (literally) with a career announcement. We can’t “Attagirl” that kind of work enough. She followed that up with another newsworthy awards show moment, although we doubt very much that this one was deliberate.
Girl, sometimes you just gotta leave the runway dresses on the runway. We’d call this a For Models Only Dress going solely by the differences between how it looks on the red carpet and how it looks in the runway shot below, but unfortunately, Amanda provided hard evidence that some high-fashion pieces really only work in the rarefied setting of a fashion show or magazine shoot. She mentioned in red carpet interviews that her dress was literally falling apart on her and by the time her name was announced for the award, the poor thing had to hold her dress together with one hand as she approached the stage. We’re fans of suffering for your fashion, but this doesn’t even provide her with the payoff of looking good. It’s just a mess of a dress – before AND after it started disintegrating. Fabulous necklace, though.
