Lupita Nyong’o had herself a busy weekend, serving looks at two different events. Let’s assess!

Ma’am, we love you, but we’re afraid this is all one big NO for us. We don’t like the shape, the details or the styling here, we’re afraid. She’s been dabbling in the big pants trend a bit and for the most part, we like this trend, so long as they’re on the right wearer and help complete a look. But that jacket and those pants are so different in cut and style that it looks like mismatched separates rather than a suit. The design of that jacket is needlessly complicated and the various twists on the design do nothing but distract and detract. The hair bow is cute, but the style doesn’t go with the suit, nor does her makeup. Empress, let’s just forget this one ever happened.

This is cute. We can’t say we’re a hundred percent in love with it, but it’s a big improvement over the previous outfit. Again, we don’t mind an oversized suit, but the way this jacket sits on her neck and where it hits on her hips makes it look like it’s simply too big for her, as opposed to being just a roomier sort of cut. We’re not sure the sparkly accessories really go with the suit, but we love the bag and the ring. For wide-legged pants, we tend to think a rounded toe shoe works better.
