As we say goodbye to the 2022 Venice Film Festival and all of the lovely and welcome red carpet content it brought us, we feel the need to single out Tessa Thompson one more time, just for being so damn committed to staying weird through this whole thing.

We mean that entirely as a compliment. It’s rare to see an American actress on a prestigious film festival red carpet take the kind of fashion risks she’s been serving all week. Do we love this? Not from a style or fashion design sense, no. It’s okay. It’s fine. We’re not shocked or excited by it but if a girl wants to wear a bejeweled produce-carrying bag on the red carpet, more power to her. It’s not chic, but as a moment of high impact weirdness? Can’t be beat. We salute you, ma’am. Love your bangs.

This big bag of weird almost works for us except for two things; her wet hair look (which we really don’t like), and that craft store-looking embellishment on the bust. The rest of it is weird, but in an intriguing sort of way. Sure, the design is a little clumsy and off-kilter, but the House of Schiaparelli excels at that sort of aesthetic. Having said that, it’s not as well styled as the look book version (below) which makes us think it’s impossible to travel in this one. Those earrings are insane.
