It’s time to pay Rebel Wilson and her stylist Elizabeth Stewart some compliments. Stepping out for the premiere of her new rom com, Rebel served a classic leading lady red carpet look and we can’t find a thing to nitpick. She looks great. She hasn’t always hit the mark exactly, but her recent promotional style has been well-suited to her and we think they’ve done well navigating the challenges of figuring out your style in an entirely new size range for yourself.

Speaking both from 16 years of writing about fashion and also from personal experience, it’s not uncommon for people who initiate and execute a weight loss plan to have some issues post-physical transformation regarding how their new clothes should fit and what styles are going to work best for them. It’s a time of fashion risks and fashion mistakes not entirely dissimilar from the kinds of liminal style periods that a trans person might experience on their journey as they figure things out. Fashion expresses who you are and promotional fashion for celebrities expresses who they want you to see. Seen from both angles, this works beautifully for her. The color is lovely on her, the fit is superb, the decolletage is chef’s-kiss perfect and it’s appropriately movie star glam. Our only quibbles are with the styling. Some jewelry would not be amiss and we think a dress like this is set off by a more colorful slap job. A little more sparkle and color and this would be perfect. Her hair looks great.
