All we wanted to do when we saw The Lost Daughter star and Best Actress nominee Olivia Colman on the red carpet at the Oscars was shout out, “Olivia! Look at you! You did it again!” Then we saw her hair and our imagined exclamations turned more toward “Olivia! Who did this to you?”

We’re always amazed at how well she manages to stay within her modest coverage requirements while still keeping the style dazzling enough for an Oscars red carpet. We won’t go so far as to claim this gown looks comfy, because it takes some rigging and control for metallic pleats to fall that perfectly, but despite the angel wings and the need to keep it from getting too wrinkled all night, we think this might have been one of the easier outfits on any of the actress nominees last night. It’s a simple but highly dramatic design that does amazing things for her.

So WHY did they do THAT to her hair? Someone help us understand.
