We think this has got to be a prime example of something only Viola Davis could pull off. If we’re being perfectly blunt about it, we’d hate this look on almost anyone else:

We’d find the shape and the abundance of ruffles kind of annoying and nightgowny on anyone else in a red carpet setting. But we’ve been covering her for years and we know the difference between a Viola who’s there to do the professional thing and dress in the manner expected of a working actress and a Viola who’s absolutely LIVING for the frock she’s got. She loves this. And the hair and insanely fabulous earrings take it somewhere far away from nightgownery. This is unique and extremely well suited to her.
