Miss Elle’s currently shooting season 2 of The Great, but that doesn’t mean a hard-working gal can’t take a fashion moment here and there to celebrate her very first Golden Globe nomination, now does it? She’s doing exactly the kind of thing with her promo style that we’d expect her to do during a “normal” year where she’s up for an award for playing a queen from history: she’s taking romanticized elements from period costume styles and finding modern, chic ways of interpreting them. It keeps her on-brand but also ensures she’s of-the-moment.

The neckline, the puffed sleeves, the little row of buttons down the bodice – it all has that vaguely 18th Century feel while still being a super-cute, modern LBD. We get that she was feeling cute and this is just an at-home look, but we’d have loved to have seen her a little more styled up for this dress. It’s calling for some cute jewelry at the very least.
CHANEL
There’s no denying the romantic, period-costume undertones to a dress like this one. Again the neckline is giving it a very old-fashioned feel while the very welcome deployment of jewelry clearly opted to go “regal” in tone. She looks fabulous here and we love the messy hair with the old-fashioned romantic styling.
