Simone & Elise is a fashion label and boutique based in Abidjan, Ivory Coast; the result of the friendship and creative partnership of designers Mariam-Simone Sibidé and Gina Kakou-Marceau, who created the brand in 2017. They are known for their vividly colored pieces, often hand-painted by local artists and their open and joyous celebration of African women, most notably and obviously through the recurring motif of hand-painting the faces of Black women directly onto the garments. This combined with recurring design motifs like butterflies, birds, flowers, tigers and lions, offer a boldly celebratory, nature-inspired sense of Black female joy and power combined with bright and modern shapes and styles. There’s nothing quite like it in the world of fashion.
