Honestly, we had a Style File planned for Cynthia Erivo before she even stepped out for the weekend Golden Globes-related activities. She’s got buzz at her back and she’s a gal who loves to use the red carpet to snag herself some camera time. Eye-popping lewks were practically guaranteed. Imagine our surprise.

A swerve from Miss Cynthia! Sure, this is a bit weird and unexpected; two qualities you can find in a lot of her style choices. But it’s also really low-key and kind of easy to wear. Granted, it still looks like a science fiction movie costume, which is how most of her red carpet looks tend to come across, but there’s definitely a feeling that she’s scaling back a bit.

Reader, we gasped. She is serving up Opera Diva realness and honestly, it’s pretty unexpected. Not the diva part; the elegant and classic part. We love the gown but we have to admit, we don’t think the jewelry choices – gorgeous as they are – really go with it.

LOVE this. What a great choice for an after-party. It’s stylish and sharp, totally photogenic, pays homage to formalwear, and looks comfortable enough for a gal to really get her late night partying on. She is amazingly well-suited to the Thom Browne brand and they’d be smart to snag a contract for her.
