We’re usually pretty hard on Miss Scarlett’s style choices, but we’re gonna do her a solid this time – even as we admit, there are parts to this look that wouldn’t have been our recommendation had anyone asked us ahead of time.
To wit: we think the neckline is way too broad and plunging and we think the modesty panel is a terrible thing to inflict on anyone. And as per the usual, she got the hair wrong. While an up do was called for, the severity of her hairstyle doesn’t really go well with the gown. Having said all that, the color, sweep and drama of the look are all great. A little outside her usual sexy wheelhouse and more toward Prestige Actress (but still sexy) territory. It’s not a perfect look by any means, but it’s a strong one and a well-chosen one for someone like her on an Oscar campaign. More of this – with just a little more polish and a major hair rethink, please.
