Mrs. Charlize has not exactly been hitting it out of the park this awards season in terms of her style choices. She seems to want to avoid cliché and to offer something a little outside the norm from your usual Hollywood blonde screen siren look. In other words, she’s avoiding typical glamour tropes and motifs. We wouldn’t go so far as to call her approach “intellectual,” but she’s clearly trying to accomplish something regarding her image; an attempt to appear a bit more interesting than say, the star of a movie called Bombshell might usually come across. She’s missed the goal more often than not, but this time we think she came close to nailing it.
We will state up front that we really hate the shape of the sleeves. And we definitely don’t think that’s the best way to style her hair. But the skirt is spectacular, the jewelry is elegant, and we really like the overall crisp, almost businesslike vibe that still has a hint of chicness to it.
