2019 BAFTA Britannia Awards: Lupita Nyong’o in Alexandre Vauthier Couture

We’re always happy to have a Lupita post to kick off the day or even the week, but don’t think we didn’t struggle with the turtleneck situation. We love our fashion diva, but we’re afraid not even she could get us to applaud that most satanic of garments.

Sigh.

We hate to say it, but this looks kind of awful. The skirt is glittery and sheer, with a real sense of movement to it, even in still pictures. The turtleneck is just … sitting there, all heavy and black. We realize this look is ripped from the runway, but we don’t think these two pieces belong together at all. And wearing a turtleneck with sandals is kind of a goofy choice.

Oh, Miss Lupita. Let’s forget all this.
