Good Lady Cate came back to the red carpet after only a short time away and even though she’s not here promoting her own work, the GLC knows – better than most celebrities – that every red carpet is a chance to promote yourself. She never slacks off.
This is a look that asks you to sit and take it all in. It’s not a first-impressions look; it’s a hidden-treasures one. The longer you look at it, the more details you see; the more the work to make it all interesting and unique becomes obvious. At first glance, this could appear to be one of her simpler style offerings, since a strapless black velvet gown is fairly basic as red carpet looks go. But the dramatic sweep of the skirt, and more importantly, the deceptively intricate and eye-catching embellishment details become more obvious and more appealing the more you look at them. Add a pair of highly odd and eye-catching Cindy Sherman-inspired cameo earrings and what seemed at first to be a fairly standard, if appropriately glam and stylish red carpet look turns into something a little bit weirder and infinitely more chic. The Good Lady knows what she’s doing.
