Okay, we would have paid just to watch Gemma and Brie explain to Samuel how to do finger hearts. You can’t buy an image that adorable to promote your cast.
It’s almost a bonus that they’re all dressed pretty damn great.
Okay, first. BRIE LARSON REPRESENTING, NERDS. If you know anything about the publishing history of the character she’s playing, you will no doubt appreciate the gigantic hip train, which has long been a (deeply impractical) part of her superhero costume going back decades. That’s a really fun thing to see; a way of interpreting classic superhero designs through women’s fashion. Gal Gadot got a chance to do this during the Wonder Woman and Justice League tours, but red, sparkly and star-spangled is a little easier to interpret for the red carpet. Brie and her team landed on a pretty flawless homage that doesn’t look costumey – although that one element might seem odd to anyone who didn’t get the reference.
As for Gemma, such is the power of the Chan that she can make a literal postage stamp dress work. We think Lupita could probably pull it off, but other than that, we think most would find it too busy for pictures. A print like that automatically draws the eyes away from the face – except if you have Gemma Chan’s face.
As for Mr. Jackson, he did alright for himself. Everything’s perfectly coordinated, on point, suited to him and photogenic. Can’t ask for better than that.
