Well, we’re just gonna have to rip the bandaid off and be blunt about it: This strikes us a pretty odd choice for a mid-day university visit. Actually, that’s not blunt enough: This is simply wrong; both for the time and the place. Everything about it says evening wear, especially the sheer, pleated skirt with the handkerchief hem. We’re not saying you can’t wear black in the day time, but for folks making well-covered public appearances, you should at least make sure your black pieces look like daywear. If she slapped on a couple more diamonds and headed out to a night at the theater with Harry, she’d be absolutely on-point. For someone who’s working so hard to project an everywoman image of herself, it’s so weird that she would get semi-formally dressed to meet with students and academics early in the day. Especially when you consider how often she’s deployed a “working woman” style to a lot of her daytime public appearances.
