The embargo has been lifted and the reviews are pouring in, which means ours will be forthcoming, darlings. We stand by our initial gushing, but there are quite a few critics who weren’t nearly as enraptured as we were. More to come on that note. In the meantime, Miss Emily was kind enough to give us all something to talk about: a right stunner of a look.
That is a lot of blue, a lot of satin, and a lot of twisting and pleating for one poor gown to handle. And yet, to our eyes, she and the gown are both pulling it off beautifully. Not perfectly, but beautifully. Unless she could have found a way to show up in a slip and dip behind a scrim to get changed, a dress like this one is going to sport some mileage on it from the travel process. Wrinkles, in other words. And it’s to her credit how few of them there are. Maybe she took the bus. But the color is gorgeous and the sweep and shape of the gown are truly dramatic. Plus the earrings are drop-dead stunning. The little peek of red in the blue makes this totally glam and High Chic look come down to a more primary-colored, Poppins-esque level. Our only complaint is with the head styling. We can understand not going overboard in order to let the dress shine, but if it were us, we’d have suggested more dramatic hair and a cleaner face. The makeup gun was set on “cartoon.”
