Posted on August 12, 2014

Let’s listen in on the world famous Tom and Lorenzo during one of their legendary early-morning editorial meetings!

T: Pft.

Lo: I know there’s not a lot to choose from. How about we feature this one?

T: Unh?

Lo: She’s up and coming.

T: Feh.

Lo: Fine. I’ll wait until you’re finished your coffee and can form words.

Lo: Do you want to feature her or not?

T: Meh.

Lo: I know, but the dress is really pretty.

T: Derf.

Lo: Don’t be argumentative.

T: Nph.

Lo: Yeah, the lip color’s all wrong.

T: Gah.

Lo: I don’t know, I think the winged eye suits her.

T: Snf.

Lo: Well if she didn’t wear the gigantic shoes, the hem would be puddling all over the floor and you’d just bitch about that. God, go and have a muffin or something. You’re so miserable when you diet.

T: You know, a little support would be nice.

Lo: Oh, a thing? We’re going to have a thing now?

She looks almost exactly like Mila Kunis.

But the dress is pretty enough.

    • It’s like a Mila Kunis lookalike pageant, between her and Lucy Hale.

      • Karen Belgrad

I threw in 1999 Mena Suvari in a comment below 🙂

      • Anique Ashraf

        Not to forget Sarah Hyland.

    • evave2

Omigosh, I thought she was Mila Kunis for just a second. I think the dress moves beautifully on the model, so can’t tell that from her stance.

Are they TRAINING people to give duck face now?

      • demidaemon

I think people just think it’s popular and they should mimic it.

        They really shouldn’t.

    • livesarah

Mila Kunis but somehow blander. Who am I kidding though, I’d love that to be the worst thing someone could say about my looks, she is obviously stunning. I like the dress, love the commentary.

  • MilaXX

Sorry I think her face is pretty but that’s a dull dress. Beside the commentary was more interesting than this photo.

    • Rhonda Shore

Yes, I’m with T on this one.

  • ctopine

The top half of the dress is very pretty. The seam straight across the butt on the skirt reminds me of a prairie skirt I wore in 1983. It’s no good.

    • J.W.

      Do you remember broomstick skirts?

      • ctopine

I do, although I didn’t really know them by that name. At least not that I recall. Those long skirts were all the rage when I was young.

      • MilaXX

You mean walking fire hazards? HATED them.

        • J.W.

          Fire hazards? That’s interesting!

          • MilaXX

At the height of their popularity there was a massive recall because many were made in Indian and were reported as being highly flammable.

          • J.W.

            Really? Thanks for replying.

      • Trish

I was JUST trying to explain “broomstick skirts” to a younger colleague the other day! I paired mine with a body suit — oh the fashion horror of college in the 90s.

        • CelandineM

oh the horror, have one buried in the back of my closet.

        • Monabel

I remember that combination in the 70s. Not wonderful then, either.

        • J.W.

          I remember that…body suits…

      • Wink

They make a “come back” every few years. Unfortunately.

        • J.W.

Does anyone remember the last time they were ‘in’?

    • conniemd

Yeah, I really didn’t see the point of cutting the skirt in two that way. It’s couture, so I doubt that they didn’t have enough material to make the whole skirt, so cut it in two pieces like a home sewer like myself. But it really detracted from the prettiness of the dress and left me with a why, why?

      • PetitePear

They want the hem wide, but less bulk at the gathering on the waist. The top tier is less voluminous than the bottom one for this skirt allowing them to have both. If it’s one piece, you’d have to sacrifice one or the other (or go with a different cut of skirt altogether, but then that would be a completely different design.)

  • stellavision

Those shoes. Oh my. Those ridiculous shoes.

  • sugarkane105

    Dem eyebrows.

I can’t tell if she’s duck-facing or just Angelina-esque in the lip area. Either way, the lip color is definitely wrong. I like everything else here. And thank you for that glimpse into your meetings.

  • Kitten Mittons

    I speak Tom’s language.

The dress is pretty, if a bit twee with the bow and the butterflies. I don’t know who this is or how old she is, though. I do know she should give Mila Kunis her face back.

    • Karen Belgrad

The last picture actually appears to be Mena Suvari’s “American Beauty” face… creepy…..

      • Kitten Mittons

Didn’t see it until you suggested it, but you’re right.

    • Janet B

      I had to check, she’s only 17.

      • Kitten Mittons

I suppose the twee is acceptable, then. Just kind of a strange thing for such a grown-up looking dress.

  • BellaLuv

Looks like all the ladies on the Giver red carpet went with shades of red

    • Victoria Anzalone

Probably a thematic choice for the book/movie. It’s a black and white world and red is the first color he sees.

      • Jacob Bowen

        I thought the same.

  • EveEve

yawn. no amount of coffee and muffin is going to fix yawn.

  • Janet B

    Very pretty bodice.

  • kmk05

The murder eyes are strong with this one. I APPROVE (except for the lip colour).

  • JR Labrador

    Gah, meh, snf indeed.

  • Crystal

“Oh, a thing? We’re going to have a thing now?”

  • Anna

Even with the shoes, it still kinda looks like she’s melting into the red carpet. Especially in the last shot.

  • Sobaika

    Mila Kunis, is that you?

    • Jaeda Laurez

      That’s exactly what I thought.

    • alyce1213

I got a little Sarah Hyland from her.

  • MissusBee

Her face deserves a better dress. This is a bit bridesmaid. Of Dracula, but still.

    • demidaemon

Now I’m thinking about Dracula in a wedding dress and wondering who the groom is.

  • Constant Reader

She’s a teenager and she’s beautiful. She looks age-appropriate and event-appropriate. I can forgive my minor quibbles.

  • Kate Andrews

Thank you for letting us in on your a.m. conversations. Much more entertaining than the dress in question.

  • That was adorable. More of these anecdotes, please.

  • hughman

Honey, take both hands off your hips. You look like Joan Crawford in “Johnny Guitar”.

    • Gatto Nero

      You win everything.

  • I, for one, will be relieved once the cat eye’s popularity has ceased. It’s being abused and should be taken to the shelter.

  • Sarah

Wrong lippy, wrong face color. She looks like she’s got a mask on. A pale, iridescent mask. Her dress is pretty, though.

  • Nazzzy

She kinda looks like a healthy, well fed Angelina Jolie.

  • marlie

Daddies, the kittens don’t like it when you fight!

Anyway, the dress is pretty enough, but it’s nothing to write home about. The shoes are horrible, from what I can see. And the pink lip is ALL wrong.

Finally, a word to Odeya here… This is the first time that most of the world has seen you. You’re wearing couture to your movie premiere; the least you can do is crack a smile. the aloof, pouty-face duck lips is annoying as it is, but it should also be reserved for those who have earned the right to sport it.

    • smh4748

YES. Poor thing looks miserable. Maybe she just realized that she was wearing hot pink lipstick. That would make me grumpy too, if I were wearing a red dress.

      • marlie

It seems like she’s going for “fierce,” but it’s not working for her.

        • smayper

And the over the shoulder look is not to be attempted by an amateur. The risk of simply looking silly is too high. As evidenced by this one.

  • In_Stitches

Is she doing duck lips or does she just have duck lips? Either way, what she put on them was definitely the wrong color. The hair is a little…eh. I guess? I don’t know, it’s fine. I’m just criticizing it to find something to criticize. The whole thing is serviceable.

  • Nicole

There are enough good ingredients to sell this look with a great smile. I mean you’re an actress, surely ‘happy’ is in your repertoire… isn’t it?

  • FibonacciSequins

    Those stilts tho.

    • Sarah

And the dress is STILL puddling on the floor. If’n that were me, I’d have had plenty of heel holes in that chiffon before I fell and broke my ankles.

    • CatLady

It’s a shame they couldn’t raise the hem instead.

  • Jacob Bowen

Honey, save the beaded butterflies and flowers on the top of the dress for the ladies above their 60s…I appreciate the modesty of this dress and I actually love your makeup (with a different lip color). Now, run off and find your cute, age appropriate, personal Ashton Kutcher little Mila.

  • MaggieMae

All I see on the close-up are amazing eyebrows!

  • katetastrophe

  • Pretty. Standard. Drifting off for my 3pm nap…

  • Christine Hart

    yeah that sounds like marriage.

  • Aidan B

Why so serious? Also, isn’t this very similar to what she wore to the Teen Choice Awards? That was her, right?

  • SewingSiren

That is one hell of a big shoe down there. Her face is very pretty though.

  • ChiKat67

Is it bad that when reading this I immediately thought of Rocket and Groot?

  • Sarah V.

She looks like a combination of Mila Kunis and Jessica Pare. Honey, take style cues from your imaginary sisters.

  • lilibetp

I think her head looks gorgeous. And the dress is really pretty. But they don’t necessarily go together. And the shoes are tragic. I guess Georges Hobeika wasn’t willing to cut the skirt off so she could wear shoes that don’t belong in a really cheap strip club.

  • l v

The commentary discussion between T&Lo wins everything. Legitimately spit out my Trying-To-Get-Through-The-Last-Hour-Of-The-Workday coffee at the “We’re going to have a thing now”. Well done!

  • trisker

Love the “conversation” –WAY more than the dress!

  • Caaro3

Tears. Tears of laughter. Thank you so much.

  • nycfan

She looks a lot like a seriously pissed off Mila Kunis in several of these shots.

  • alyce1213

I’m with Lo today. I think it’s a pretty dress and I like the winged eye on her, but her posing is awkward and kind of ruins the effect. The model looks better.

  • elemspbee

Lovely dress. Wasted on her. A manequin does more work than this up and coming somebody.
She has a pretty enough face but her face powder/base is too white, but not in a way that works. and the lips ARE the wrong color.

  • somebody blonde

    I sympathize, Tom. Dieting sucks.

  • You guys crack me up.

  • unpious

    Total derf.

  • Gatto Nero

  • Seriously, I love you guys.

    And this dress.

  • I wish I had a makeup person on call who could do my eyes just as Miss Odeya’s are done. SpecTACular. The dress, not so much…..in fact, really forgettable.

  • quiltrx

LOL your ‘meeting’ pretty much covered it. I’ll throw in that she needs to go to RC Posing School.

  • WaterGhost

Too much makeup on her face — too shiny and the skin on her face does not match the texture and colour of her bare neck, shoulders, and arms. However, it is impressive that they managed to pick a strong lip colour of a slightly different shade than that deep red dress that nevertheless does not end up fighting the dress. The blueish tinge to the pink lips serves as a bridge between her cool blue eyes and the warm red bodice. The beading of the bodice is gorgeous and I want something like that.

  • Dress is a TAD mature…n u know… Zzzzzz….

  • demidaemon

The conversation was way more interesting than the dress or her.

    • PinkyK

  • PinkyK

    She looks pissed off….

  • EEKstl

Hmmm…sounds like my house, but my spouse wouldn’t give a hoot about fashion, tho he did once comment that my pedicure was a nice “winter red.” Maybe there’s hope for him after all…

As for her…she really is a Mini Mila Kunis, isn’t she? The dress is lovely, but too mature for her. Also, she really needs to understand that “looking bored” is not the same thing as “giving face” on the RC.

  • enchanted216

The dress is super pretty, and I would totally wear it. I guess she was not permitted to hem it, hence the shoes.

  • OffToSeeHim

She’s sucking in her cheeks. Come on, that’s kind of adorable.

  • Clash D

She looks like a tall version of Mila Kunis.

  • ktr33

Why is Mila Kunis wearing a red prom dress?

  • Don Hackett

sixties prom dress for a conservative christian girl.
