She’s starting to do that Olsen twin thing of wearing clothes way too big for her. When former actresses get entrenched in the fashion world, they suddenly forget about things like proper fit. Granted, the pants are pretty loose-fitting on the model, but they look downright schlumpy on Katie. And we can’t with that top. It’s like Cher got a job as a storefront fortune teller. The shoes are pretty gorgeous, though. It’s a shame they don’t have an outfit worth their time.

In other news, her smirk is getting OUT OF CONTROL. Her mouth looks like it’s getting ready to leave her face in disgust.

I love the top. Its those horrifically fitted pants that totally kill this for me.

      • RescueMe23

I agree – I’m digging that top – she needs to change the pants and the shoes.

        • http://attiresmind.blogspot.com/ Kiltdntiltd

I don’t even mind the shoes, but those pants need to come up about an inch and a half. No one on her team has any adhesive hemming tape?

          • Flavia Pantoja

And, for once, I think the pants looked better with the belt…

      • Kent Roby

I love the top, too, though I’d like it a bit more if the sheer part had a closer fit and wasn’t sheer.

        • kimmeister

Or if you’re going to keep the volume in the top, then don’t tuck it in and cinch your waist with a belt instead.

      • jilly_d

yep. If those pants had been skinnier, this would have been a total win for me; I think she looks hot.

        • holla

yes skinnier pants would work better. don’t like her hair…

        • Kent Roby

Wait, I’ve got it: skinny pants and a JEWELED TURBAN, duh!

          • Constant Reader

A jeweled turban does solve most fashion conundrums.

      • 3boysful

That is one of those tops where, when you put it on and pieces drape and float, you can’t help loving being in it, no matter how it may or may not look.

        • Kent Roby

It’s like when you wear an outfit with a lot of long fringe on it; it makes it impossible to stand still!

          • spirit52

please don’t wear a lot of long fringe. ever.

            • Kent Roby

I can not make that promise, though it’s only of the bugle-bead variety on costumes!

      • JynxTheCat

        Me TOO!

    • Scimommy

I… like the hair and makeup??

    • CPK1

Yikes. That’s a lot of ill-fitting hot mess first thing in the morning.

      • sienna elm

I really feel like all those years ensconced with Tom Cruise did a number on her, and I think it shows. I hope she comes out stronger in the end, but I don’t think she’s there yet.

        • StillGary

I thought she looked a little frail and tired — like she really needs me to worry about her.

        • jen_vasm

I suspect that when she was at a high point style-wise, someone else was making all her style decisions. I get the feeling she has no fundamental clue on how to dress. She makes so many basic mistakes now (big ruffly top with baggy pants? Really?). It’s really a shame.

          • demidaemon

I think you hit the nail on the head.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

She’s often had trouble with proportions. I like her makeup though – SJP eyes done right.

      • Sophie

First thing I noticed was her eyes, which is extrordinary when you consider the rest of her outfit. It must be magic.

    • Sobaika

      HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

What a great way to start the day.

    • Mothra

I love those shoes. I wonder what suri’s burn book has to say about that look.

      • RoseJB

I forgot about Suri’s Burn Book!

        • Mothra

It is the only tumblr I read on a regular basis.

      • Anne At Large

Those were literally my first two thoughts here.

      • CPK1

Love Suri’s burn book! Esp the stuff about Shiloh Jolie-Pitt and now Prince George

        • Mothra

          and that little Swedish princess.

    • NMMagpie

The unanswerable question: Why do celebrity “style mavens” wear so many jank clothes? (Zoe Saldana, I am looking at you.)

And for pete’s sake, get that woman a belt, pronto.

      • demidaemon

Because they are “style mavens,” meaning they do not employ stylists.

        • NMMagpie

You are right. And man alive, do they ever need to spend a few bucks on a stylist.

    • anonylind

I kinda like it. It suits her. Hot shoes.

    • Wink

I like the top’s ruffles, but the sheer midriff is a no.

    • Nancer

Sorry, I kinda love this. Especially the shoes. It’s different, yet fun, and I dig the pants especially. The top – well, you can’t say it isn’t dramatic!

    • Kathie

Love the top, the hair and makeup and the shoes. The pants need to go.

    • GillianHolroyd

There was a brief period when she was interesting a couple summers ago but usually… *shrug*. Makeup looks good.

      • Kent Roby

I think everyone was just happy for her for escaping Cruise.

    • sienna elm

Looks like she’s about to do a stint as a topless bull fighter!

    • evave2

I know this sounds weird. Why is she getting the fashion icon treatment? I never see her wearing anything fabulous or put together fabulously. Yet she keeps getting major covers wearing major designers. Here I don’t think anything except the shoes are noteworthy. (And they are terrific, I’d buy those shoes in a minute to wear with my multiple black pants outfits. And boy, I got plenty of black pants outfits.)

The pants are soft looking and cute and look comfortable but a little big. The top is positively SWIMMING on her. It appears more fitted on the model so I have to believe it is supposed to be more fitted.

So Kors sends her this outfit in toto and he sends a size-14 top to a size-6 or size-8 person but THAT doesn’t make sense to me either.
Oh and I hate the sheer panel over the model’s stomach (I did not see it that much on Katie Holmes but can see that it is THERE.) It gives me no interest, just an added element I don’t like. But the overall shape of the top is neat, just dislike the sheer panel.

      • demidaemon

To answer your first question, it’s because she fancies herself a “fashion designer.”

        • evave2

Gwen Stefani wears LAMB and wears it well and appropriately. Victoria Beckham wears Victoria Beckham well and appropriately. I can’t think of any time I have seen Katie Holmes (or Suri Cruise, the designs are for HER right?) in anything other than somebody ELSE.

It’s just the clothes in this case are swimming on her. If she made an arrangement with Michael Kors to wear his clothes why didn’t she ask for/him send her sizes? The shoes are fabulous, and I get froggy the number of times we see somebody wearing shoes that look like boats because A) painful and B) dangerous. So the shoes fit (and she wore it, HA) but the pants are a little large and the top looks SUPERlarge.

The top looks like it needs to be taped in or something, because I bet I would be pulling it up the whole time I wore it.

To me it’s funny, for once the shoes look comfortable and everything else looks uncomfortable (to wear, and for me to look at).

          • demidaemon

As far as I know, the line is for adults, and Katie has appeared in it time and again ( I believe the line is called Holmes & Yang). It’s really nothing to write home about. In Gwen and Victoria’s cases, the clothes have some personality and pizazz. Everything I remember about Katie’s line gives me a feeling of dull and bland.

    • RussellH88

      Matador Funeral Realness.

      Not a good thing.

    • Kent Roby

This is the perfect Bianca-Jagger-at-Studio-54 top, with the right arm completely free to maneuver various paraphernalia (small straw, small spoon, credit card, etc).

      • StellaZafella

        …(Borgia walking stick)…

    • Kitten Mittons

The outfit made me giggle, but it was the smirk that turned it into uncontrollable fits of laughter. She is so damn pleased with this.

Way to ruin a great pair of shoes, though.

    • RoseJB

Is it bad that I like the pants?

      • ankali

Probably, but I like them too. They look slouchy to me, not schlumpy.

    • Capt. Renault

Thank goodness the uncles put “former actress” in there. I was trying to think of anything she’s been in since… Batman? A few Batmans ago?

      • Kitten Mittons

That buddy pic/heist movie with Queen Latifah? Maybe that was before Batman.

      • jtabz

Hmm. She was in a decent del Toro fantasy/horror movie a few years back. And I think she’s going to be in the upcoming film adaptation of The Giver.

        • Capt. Renault

Finally checking her imdb page (my curiosity overcame my lethargy), there are some recent credits there, but all on the level of hobby actress, rather than a working one. Enh.

          • jtabz

            “…my curiosity overcame my lethargy”

This is the only I get anything done most mornings.

          • MissMariRose

“Hobby actress.” Ha! Makes me think she got quite a settlement from Tom Cruise.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

She’s done a Broadway play since leaving Cruise-that was probably a year ago?

        • demidaemon

??? Who the heck is she going to play in that?

          • jtabz

            Jonas’s mom, I think.

I’m kinda dreading the movie adaptation, Holmes or no Holmes … I love the book so much and can’t imagine the movie coming close.

            • demidaemon

Same here. It’s a very iconic book for me, and I really think it needs actors with a lot of charisma to pull it off. Katie doesn’t have that.

    • Carly Clement

Is it just me or does the Tuxedo Stripe just force your mind to explode because it is one detail passed the one detail too many!!! The stripe also exaggerates the poor fit!

      • Kitten Mittons

        Not just you.

    • Moni

      Um . . . her hair looks pretty? I don’t know . . . that’s all I’ve got. Sheesh, Katie. This is no bueno.

    • MartyBellerMask

Maybe a pencil skirt? I do love the shoes.

    • queeniethebold

This is heinous. The shoes are beautiful but everything else is … embarrassing. And i concur wholeheartedly with the uncles that she needs to lose that smirk. Pronto.

i can’t get over that SHE DIDN’T PUT ON A BELT.

      • evave2

I thought the same thing on re-view. The model is wearing a belt and it really punctuates the look. I don’t know why Katie Holmes isn’t.

I like the pants, they look comfy. The belt didn’t need a serious cinch-in on the model for the look, so I think the belt would generally look good.

Her make-up does not in any way make her facial features stand out, kind of washes her out.

    • PinkyK

Gorgeous shoes! The rest is just meh.

    • kmk05

Is no one going to say anything about the bikram yoga hair?

OUT (even though no one asked).

      • spirit52

By the time I got to her hair…I didn’t care enough to offer a comment. But since you asked, hated it!

      • Sarrinsor

        Hair by Alfalfa.

      • demidaemon

Like I said in my own comment, the only thing I liked in this look was the shoes.

    • Judy_S

It’s funny–I like the whole look on her. Not on anybody else, probably. The clothes may be baggy but they don’t make her look baggy (which is how I see the Olsens), and the quiet hair and makeup take it out of fortuneteller territory.

    • Boulderista

The ruffles on the model hit above her elbow and on Katie they are at the wrist – it’s almost as if she has the top on sideways or maybe backwards?

      • kimmeister

I think the model is just in motion, so the majority of the ruffles are behind her.

    • NBG

Great shoes but the rest of the outfit looks like some funeral parlor is missing its curtains.

    • Gatto Nero

That top is one of those garments that might look interesting in motion but standing still looks like a wonky window valance at Morticia’s. The pants needs a belt (at least). The shoes are great — the only great thing about this look.

    • FrigidDiva

I must be in a super crabby mood today but I think that top is hideous an no matter what you do with it, it’s going to look hideous. As for the shoes, I’m on the fence. They look like they’ve been covered men’s ties. Every time I see that paisley pattern in that size I automatically go to men’s ties, which makes the shoes seem like a Pinterest project to me. Gah, I need more coffee.

      • Qitkat

I’m not on the fence. Y’all can have the shoes, they look like a men’s smoking jacket from an old grade B Hollywood flick. Starring Miss Katharine Homeless, a struggling young actress, living out of her car and dumpsters, retrieving costumes tossed from bins behind theatres after the play has closed, remaking them for her Parking Lot Tour of all the Hollywood studios, Reese didn’t invent that, Miss Homeless here did! Begging for interviews with agents, trying to be discovered, as all the soda fountains have closed down, due to the extreme diets of everyone out there, no one dares being seen eating in public any more.

Yeah, I’d better go get some coffee too ;-p

    • CJ Guziewicz

She should be having cocktails at home not standing on a red carpet.

    • Maria Parramore

In regard to the smirk, Katie has a cross bite (as do I). It’s often mistaken for a smirk. My senior high prom date’s mother yelled at me for smirking in our photos. I thought I was smiling.

      • LearnedFoot

I read somewhere that she also has Bell’s palsy, and that is why she appears to “smirk.”

    • LibKat

      Matador non-chic.

    • MarissaLG

From the thumbnail on the front page (which shows her from the shoulders up) I actually thought to myself, “Wow, she looks really nice for a change.” Ha!

    • Anique Ashraf

I don’t wear heels or have money but I will buy those shoes, I swear. They’re so pretty.

      Also I’m obsessed with paisley.

    • Lisalady161

I’m usually not a fan of the Duchess’ fashion line, but those shoes are giving me life. So, so chic and pretty.

    • JenniferA

What’s the opposite of a scrolldown fug? Because this is fug continuously until the feet.

    • Sam Smith

She is super smirky, I kinda like the top, although the sleeve side is a bit out of control. The shoes are super fab, its the pants that really drag this down.

    • crash1212

Her head is gorgeous – ever present smirk notwithstanding. Gimme those pumps. This is a for-models-only look and needs to be moving at all times not to look just like it does on Miss Katie.

    • Dreamwr8tr

Floppy black swan dress on the top; business lunch casual on the bottom. It’s total “work to date” with elevated gym hair (yes, I know she had it blown out and pinned up and producted, but it looks like something I’d wear to spin class and I have mid-back length hair). The pants kill it and the shoes are extremely focus pulling.

    • StrandedFashionista

      The shoes are amazing!

    • SewingSiren

Love the top. I feel like she should have a more important bracelet on the right arm. Not love the tucked in tuxedo pants part , maybe floating over a pair of shorts would be better.

    • Denise Rambo

After seeing this outfit, I don’t think Heidi, Nina & Tim should invite Michael Kors back to Project Runway anytime soon.

    • Kate Andrews

I love the shoes. And maybe she’s reverting to Joey Potter with the smirk?

    • ThaliaMenninger

The vacancy behind the eyes from Tom Cruise’s ex-wives is scary. I find that much more noticeable than whatever she wears. But I do think the “there is no there there” issue means she can’t pick clothes for herself worth a damn.

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

Those shoes! Ah, I love them so much.

    • paintedfish

i actually like the cha cha top. it’s the boxer shorts shoes that are buggin’.

    • Anapestic

OMG, Katie! I love her more than …. Wait, there must be something I love her more than. Ebola maybe? To be fair (I guess?) I would hate these clothes on anyone.

    • Grumpy Girl

I love the shoes. Man, I love those shoes. I wish the rest of the outfit was not all black, because to my poor eyes it gets blobby. A contrast color for the shirt or pants would either make the blousy-ness look purposeful (rather than like someone trying to continue wearing their favorite outfit after losing huge quantities of weight), or would really highlight what needs to be better fitted.

    • nannypoo

I like the shoes and the idea behind this outfit, but that top is ridiculous. On another note, I’ve seen lots of articles about her having Bell’s palsy, which affects the symmetry of her face. Is that not true?

      • Gatto Nero

I’ve read that she has (or had) Bell’s palsy, too. It can be a temporary or ongoing condition. Some people recover with no aftereffects, and some have lingering paralysis of some facial muscles.

      • dashransome

Yes – i heard this too. She has issues with lingering effects of Bell’s palsy, so the smirk may be unavoidable. I always thought that one side of her face may droop unless she smiled like that.

    • Kara Keenan

I adore the shoes. And I don’t hate tuxedo pants on women- as long as they are tailored correctly. These pants are not. Too big. Too long. Too much.

    • decormaven

Just pull that big flounce over your head and be done with it. Nothing is working here- and that includes hair, outfit, shoes, and tiny earrings.

    • Jaeda Laurez

That was ugly on the runway, and it’s ugly on her. And her hair is terrible. The only cute thing are the shoes.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

It’s as if a very sad toreador threw away his cape and MK picked it up and threw it on a runway model. It’s fug-on the model, and on Holmes. The shoes are cute and deserve a better outfit.

    • frannyprof

This is horrible! Why do celebuladies wear sheer mesh over their midsection? Don’t they know that it makes them look like they’re about to give birth to an alien baby? Also, Ms. Katie and Natalie Dormer should have a smirk-off. I would totally watch that.

    • http://fibonaccisequins.storenvy.com/ Danielle

I don’t know how to feel right now.

    • FibonacciSequins

That looks like a bottom-three PR disaster.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

I like the whole outfit, but the fit is so dreadful that it ruins the entire look, even those fantastic shoes.

    • Myra Amler

Shoes are great. As others have noted, her smirk may be the result of Bell’s Palsy. I have a friend who had it several years ago. He has never quite recovered.

    • Terri Terri

I love it when somebody wears something really stupid but they still have that “Feast Your Eyes, Losers!” expression. It always makes my day!

    • Yoshio

Second day in a row where a shoe was greater than the outfit. Yesterday Maggie G. today Katie H. tomorrow….? One can only hope it’s a trend since vile shoe choices are heinous and apparently getting an entire outfit right is nigh impossible these days.

    • quiltrx

I like the top from one side, and from the other side, but not all together. That last shot? The way the fabric drapes and ruffles is gorgeous. And I like the pants if they were the right size and length. And they need the belt.
Everyone jumps on me about hating that GoT girl’s smirk, saying she can’t help it (?). I can’t stand Katie (I want to give her a giant paper bag to try to act her way out of), but there have been rumors that she had Bell’s Palsy or something similar, and that side of her mouth won’t smooth out. In older pictures she doesn’t have it; she even has it in casual pictures now. So I tend to believe the idea that to a degree it’s something she can’t do anything about.

      • MilaXX

I never heard about the Bell’s Palsy. I just assumed she was another side talker.

    • H2olovngrl

Jesus Christ, just show your teeth when you smile!!! Is that too much to ask???

    • AC Simons

This is all so awkward looking, and her facial expression has been frozen in time. Is she really considered a fashion icon/guru/trend-setter? I don’t get it. (I just keep thinking what Suri would say, ala Suri’s Burn Book.)

    • spirit52

LOVE the shoes ( I have a ‘thing’ for paisley prints). HATE the pleat in the pants. The top? Ehhh…

    • EEKstl

Love the shoes. They harken me back to the 90’s when I had a fab pair of Stewart plaid pumps and wore them with red tights. Nice to see patterned pumps making a comeback. If these aren’t zillions I might get them. Also, yeah – just not sure what the smirking is about, or why she feels smirk-worthy.

    • Zuber

      Why is she even photographed?

    • Jessica Peterson

I refuse to hate this. I don’t particularly like the tuxedo strip on the pants, but I think she looks gorgeous, overall.

    • MilaXX

I think this almost works. I love her hair and makeup, smirk and all. The shirt is totally crazy but I kinda like it on her. I dunno, my brain says I shouldn’t like this, but I do.

    • http://reneshiro.tumblr.com/ kingderella

      How not to give face.

    • marlie

Well, the shoes are gorgeous, and her makeup looks great, so there’s that. The top isn’t that bad, but the pants are terrible. Katie’s channeling Elizabeth McGovern’s weird smile and the way she holds her head though.

    • marlie

Well, the shoes are gorgeous, and her makeup looks great, so there’s that. Katie’s channeling Elizabeth McGovern’s weird smile and the way she holds her head though.

    • unbornfawn

Keep the shoes and start over.

    • KT

Haha what the fuck??? The shoes are cute and the pants are sort of on trend, but that top is totally ridiculous and does not look fashion forward in the slightest. Just listen to how it sounds: “one shouldered ruffle-tiered sheer navel covering” EW

    • clatie

what is it about her? everything she puts on looks totally assy.

    • Alyssa

Like the makeup, love the shoes! The rest is just no, especially to the smirk.

    • snarkykitten

All I can say is: I’m glad she didn’t accept the role of Piper on OINTB

      • demidaemon

        THANK GOD.

    • Trishington

Icky poo-poo from smirk to toe. Also, wearing pleated pants should be an indictable offence.

    • http://www.twitter.com/allforusophia AllForUSophia

Is anyone else seeing Angelina here?

    • https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Farmhouse-Store/95951940388 Bill Curtis

When they do the Jacqueline Bisset biopic, Miss Katie is ready.

    • ktr33

I can forgive the smirk if only because she escaped the evil clutches of Mr BigTeeth McCouchJumper.

    • traceyishere

I kinda like it but the old lady bun has GOT TO GO.

    • bunnydiet

      Love this!

    • demidaemon

The shoes are the only thing I like here.

    • mayanempire

I choose to ignore everything but the shoes.

    • mickiemonkey

Katie! Stop pretending you have Bell’s Palsy!

    • cocohall

She really does not wear her beauty or celebrity well at all. She is capable of a terrific photo for a cover or editorial, but doesn’t seem to do well on the Red Carpet which calls for a more spontaneous, confident persona. For a short while she was a guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance and even convinced them to let her do a dance number. It was actually painful to listen to her judge the dancers and one could only describe her own dancing as wooden. I think she still may have been married to Mr. Cruise at the time, and perhaps was a big benefactor the the Dizzy Feet Foundation and bought her way onto the show. That was the only explanation that made sense. Sadly, she just comes across as not too terribly bright. But under confident people often give that impression, and God knows, living in the Scientology bubble could crack the confidence of lots of people. I give her high marks for getting OUT. She seems like the sort of kind-hearted person that will eventually open up a dog or horse sanctuary and live her life out of the public eye.

    • Fuchsiaforever

Nooooo the top is hideous! Actually everything is so bad. And she needs a belt.

No to the top. It reminds me of when I was a child, learning to dress myself, and I would put my head and arm through the neck hole because I hadn’t quite figured out sleeves.

When they tell you to take off one thing before leaving the house and you’re wearing this outfit, don’t choose the belt. Now go and put it back on.

    • hellkell

No one should look that smug when their outfit is that shitty.

    • Clash D

I don’t mind the one-arm bandit look, but it doesn’t go with the pants (pleats, ugh) or shoes.
      The hair. Whut.

    • MM4321

She is just not the fashion plate she wants to be.

What’s with the Lady Grantham special?
