Gwyneth Paltrow in Wes Gordon in The Hamptons

Posted on July 29, 2014

We feel bad for Gwynnie. No one on the sidewalk seems to care that she’s there. Then again, we suspect the population of the The Hamptons has absolutely no time for her brand of bullshit.

Gwyneth-Paltrow-GOTS-THHSHS-Tom-Lorenzo-Site-TLO (1)Gwyneth Paltrow heads to the “Hector and the Search for Happiness” screening in The Hamptons, NY in a Wes Gordon patterned dress with chunky heels.

But hey, we love your look, Gwynnie. That’s gotta be worth something to you, right?

Gwynnie?

The people of the Hamptons and I finally have something in common!

      • Lisalady161

A-to the frakking-men! I wish I didn’t like her onscreen as much as I do.

      • Raspberry2012

It’s true! I have something in common with the people of The Hamptons, and it’s not my bank account! What could it be, hmmmm, what could it be…

    • crash1212

Gratuitous Gwynnie bashing. Since there’s only one person on the street seemingly not caring. And he probably just took a picture and is calling his SO to say he just saw Gwynnie on the street. As for the dress…I really like it. Needs a hoik and/or a bit more support for the girls though. She looks good.

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

Lighten up, sweetie. It’s a joke.

        • jm778426

          great

        • StillGary

Bwa ha ha, but if you look up from a signing and see Gwynnie, Julia Roberts and Taylor Swift standing there, RUN!

          • bitchybitchybitchy

Especially true if they were seen deploying large designer handbags.

            • rh33

              Large, empty designer handbags.

            • StillGary

              beat me to it!

            • bitchybitchybitchy

              Right you are.

          • Raspberry2012

The only thing that could have made the guy on the phone any better is if the photographer caught him in mid-yawn.

        • Sam Smith

Looks like there are at least two who don’t care.

          • Raspberry2012

Well, there *are* more, it’s just that we’re not in the picture. :)

    • Ebto

Cute – but the fit seems off around the middle, right?

      • Wink

Yes… bunching a little. I think the dress would look better a few inches shorter.

      • mellorcr

I’m still trying to decide if it’s the dress or if she is walking like her back is out…. Maybe she skipped her hot yoga class! Upon further analysis, it looks like the dress is too long in the torso and has ridden up a bit, causing strange wrinkles in the middle.

      • I used to be fashionble

Yes. Maybe the waist sits a bit too low: actually, I think the whole dress sits a bit too low. Hike up the whole dress. Also I think she’s getting a little too old to go bra-less.

    • Scimommy

I have one question: why is the model wearing such ugly shoes?

      • Courtenay P

yikes! them are some grandma shoes

        • marlie

          They look like bedroom slippers.

          • Raspberry2012

Oh yeah, the model has some bad shoes on her feet.

      • Susan Sontag

Really? I love those kicky little flat sandals! oh wait, the model. I was looking at the assistant in the blue dress.

      • Gatto Nero

They’re especially bad with the dress length.

    • Anna

Is this the way to treat a war veteran, people of the Hamptons?! Have some RESPECT!

      • eowyn_of_rohan

I am laughing so hard. Thank you for that.

I ugly-laughed at that. Thank you.

      • girliecue

HA! You win the Internets for that!

      • Raspberry2012

That took me a minute, but it was worth the wait! I love you.

    • teensmom99

Never thought I’d say this about something Gwynnie is wearing but I wish I had the dress (I have similar enough sandals that are actually around 10 years old and keep getting compliments).

    • smh4748

I think that dress is just too exact a facsimile of the late 90s to do much for me. Then again, that was a good period for Gwynnie, so perhaps the evocation of that era is intentional. I’d probably want to remind myself of winning an Oscar and being engaged to Brad Pitt too.

      • Anna

Ha! SHADE. You’re right though, the ’90s were very good to Gwyneth. There was no social media and therefore we were not yet aware of her sanctimony, and I actually liked her movies back then.

        • Violentcello

I just watched Sliding Doors with my mom this weekend. I still love that movie, and not only for John Hannah’s accent.

          • Anna

Sliding Doors is one of my favourite movies, and she was great in it. And John Hannah…be still my heart.

      • Boulderista

She’s looking more and more like her mother which wasn’t so much the case back in the 90s.

        • Beardslee

I thought the same thing. I’ve loved Blythe Danner since ‘1776.’

    • Kitten Mittons

“Hector and the Search for Happiness”

      Even the screening sounds pretentious.

Love the dress, it’s a great look for her. I want it, but I’ll wear my own shoes, thanks so much.

    • imperfectlaura

Did the Hamptons consciously uncouple with Gwyneth?

      • Glam Dixie

I’m not sure about the Hamptons, but I know I have.

      • KateShouldBeWorking

And in my heart, I have Thoughtfully United with each townie who refused to give a shit.

        • demidaemon

There’s our newest euphemism for you know what. ;)

          • KateShouldBeWorking

            Half of mine aren’t super-thoughtful.

    • MartyBellerMask

She looks great! And good choice of shoe. The model’s are aggressively ugly.

      • spirit52

        LMAO@ aggressively ugly. Hahahaaaa

    • SewingSiren

Good summer look. I’m probably the only one, but I love the model’s shoes.

    • FibonacciSequins

      Those shoes.

    • http://recapscallion.blogspot.com/ Claire

Really like the dress but I’m not into the shoes. They’re ok on their own and I don’t think flats are necessarily the way to go here, but the heels are a couple of inches too high on these ones.

      • kimmeister

I just don’t like an ankle strap shoe deployed with such a low hemline. Although I can’t say she looks bad in them.

    • HeisenbergHattie

Pretty summery look. Genetics roulette was kind to her.

      • Raspberry2012

Yeah, that’s true. I mean, hey, it’s not that I don’t think she’s pretty, because she is. But she’s such a tool!

    • berkeleygirl

That’s the best she’s looked in a very long time – not that I care!!!

    • Janet B

Doesn’t fit well, but it suits her.

    • suzq

      She looks fantastic.

    • Judy_J

I’m identifying with the guy on the cell phone.

    • marlie

The dress and shose are cute and location-appripriate. I’ll give her that.

    • lilibetp

I don’t know – it doesn’t seem to fit right.

    • Qitkat

Cute summer dress. but the length bugs, it’s almost dowdy. Go either 4 inches shorter, or 8 inches longer. It’s also a bit awkward in the fit.
G looks happier here than in a while.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I like the dress, but would like it even more were it shorter by those four inches. This length looks just a wee bit off to my eyes. Props to Gwynnie for having the figure to wear it. There. I said something nice about Gwynnie. Let it be duly noted.

    • Maine1ac

Who goes to the movies without something like a sweater? It’s cold in there! Or am I showing my age?

    • SugarSnap108

I will just never like that hem length — wish it hit right below the knee. But she looks pretty and Hampton-y.

    • Salasalu

I don’t see movie star quality at all. I just don’t get her.

    • Gatto Nero

This looks great on her. She’s tall and thin and can carry the length of the dress, and the platform sandal works well.

    • appliquer

I like the outfit/shoes on the woman in blue in the last picture.

    • GillianHolroyd

It looks really good from the back but from the front, either she or the dress does not have much shape.

I think her heels are too high for the look. I actually prefer the model’s flats, because they seem to fit the look better, the assistant’s work even better. But it is understandable that GP wants to tower over the minions so she can be worshipped from afar.

    • Alyssa

I think this would have been a good time to deploy the trendy pink shoe. However, I love pink shoes! I like this dress on her, even though I don’t really care for her.

    • cocohall

I think she looks pretty much perfect and venue appropriate. It’s a great little summer dress, the shoes are maybe a bit too much, but how else to alert everyone (which appears to actually be no one) that there is a star in their midst? I saw a woman heading into a movie theater in our area in the early afternoon in tight jeans and high heels and damned if I didn’t study her face closely to see if she was “famous” as she strode past all the other patrons in sneakers and flip flops. The semiotics of shoes. WHy didn’t they have this sort of coursework when I was in college?

    • MilaXX

Cute look for Gwynnie, but I like the periwinkle dress and flats the lady in the background is wearing better.

      • blondie65

        Me too…love her sandals!!!

      • butterflysunita

That lady looks great. I’d rather have a post on her.

    • Imasewsure

Dress looks better on her than the model but then again, that model’s pose (and hiddy shoes) is sort of paper doll-like… the Goop looks good… and no lifestyle quotes attached so I can live with it!!

    • NBG

The bustline on this dress bugs, Both on the model and on Gwynnie. Also, it’s summer and on your on vacay, why pick a beige sundress?

    • jml27

looks like Gwynnie has wheat belly.

    • julnyes

I’d like it better floor length and flowy, but not a bad showing for Goop.

    • Synnae

So this is deffo a dress that requires boobies to fill out the top. Other than that I really like it for summer, it is a dress that (if you have the height) you can dress both up and down. The hem line is difficult though, ok with heels but needs a few inches trimmed if worn with flats.

    • IamstillAnonymous

The dress does not fit her frame. The bust looks empty, and, while standing erect, four ripples in the fabric encircle her body.

      • Constant Reader

I read that as “four nipples in the fabric encircle her body.” It suddenly made Gwynnie almost interesting.

        • theblondette

          Ha, me too!

      • Shawn EH

Her bust always looks empty. Remember her Oscar-winning dress? It’s just how she does.

        • IamstillAnonymous

I cannot bleach that dress from my memory. It may be “how she does,” but it isn’t how she should.

        • Raspberry2012

You know, that’s a good point. I always loved that dress, to be honest, but I’d always think, “It’s too big in the bust. It’s a gorgeous dress, but it doesn’t fit her boobs.”

    • LadyVimes

      Haaaaaate the shoes. Hate.

Also, does that designer just not want to sell clothing? The styling on that poor model is atrocious.

    • Columbinia

If the dress fit properly, it would lie smooth, instead of forming horizontal ridges. Prettier, more delicate sandals would be a huge improvement over the Clydesdale platforms. Interesting that she has no purse, no watch, no phone.

    • Eclectic Mayhem

Great frock. Not so great c’leb.

    • Skippymom1

I love her shoe choice much better than the model’s pic.

    • Winterlight

She needs a bra. Badly. And some makeup, because she looks like a washed out rag there.

    • gingerella

Her decolletage looks rough and uneven. A little makeup to even that out would have made her look much fresher. (Sundresses can be a bitch for the over-40 pale woman.)

    • Hstrylvr

Question, why isn’t she carrying a bag? Does her assistant carry her purse for her, so she doesn’t have to? At least Taylor Swift carries a purse (albeit most likely devoid of anything in it) when she’s out. It just strikes me as odd that she is going out and about with no purse.

    • rainwood1

She should have consciously uncoupled a few inches from that hem.

    • evave2

I think the dress looks really cute on her. It is a pity she goes out of her way to act like an Overlady or something.

    • Man Dala

She looks really good, gotta give her that.

      • Annistella

Tru dat. If there was ever a look to illustrate the phrase ‘credit where credit is due’ it is this.

    • demidaemon

      ENH.

    • swissgirl

Does she have someone carry her purse?

    • gefeylich

Aw, she should have worn the blue chanclas from the runway if no one was going to notice her. More comfy.

    • Judih1

Taylor Swift carries a purse with nothing in it. Gwennie carries no purse at all – so I guess someone else has the car keys, cash, lipstick etc. Celebrities aren’t like the rest of us

    • Not applicable

The shoes seem a bit heavy for such a light dress– plus, she’s already like 9 feet tall- why? Gwennie? Why?

    • PinkyK

      Queen of the She-Douches.

    • Kathleen B

LOL. those people walking by ignoring her are hilarious

    • Nora Clancy Mullin

Oh my god, go up a size!

    • ShaoLinKitten

I get that she’s obnoxious. I read her quotes and roll my eyes. But I met her in LAX when she was still Brad Pitt’s girlfriend, and she was super nice (and tall, tan, and gorgeous). My cats were in cargo, and her very pissed off brother had left his guitar on the airplane, so we were ushered into the same area to wait. I was too afraid to talk to her, but she struck up the conversation, asking me why I was waiting. Once the cats arrived, she petted them through the front doors of their carriers.

The guy I was with was totally clueless. “That was Gwyneth Paltrow!” I exclaimed once we were out of earshot. “Who?” he asked.

Whenever I want to hate her, I think of that incident and I can’t. However, I do wish she’d stifle herself sometimes.

That said, I think this look is cute. I like her shoes and hate the model’s
