Taylor Schilling in A.L.C. at “Women Ruling TV” Event

Posted on June 09, 2014

Taylor’s really improved her poledancing style by leaps and bounds lately. Whoever makes the style decisions seems to have realized that simple shapes rendered starkly is one of the best ways to go for her. Which is why we’re digging everything below the neck here:

It’s nothing earth-shattering, and we wish the waist was defined a little better and the shoes actually fit her, but for the most part, this all works. Except for the VPL, of course.

What does not work – at least not for us – is the “circa 1994 Madonna” head. Especially those Sharpie brows. Ooof, girl. Tone those things down. We kinda like the hair, though. And the earring. But it does kind of look like the airbrush gun was set too high. Maybe it’s the lips instead of the brows that need to be toned down. Maybe they both do – although we would’ve thought that she was one of those ladies, like Kristen Stewart, who can handle an astonishing amount of makeup without looking overdone. Either way, she’s got big eyes, symmetrical features, smooth skin, and pale coloring. Difficulty setting: ZERO. The entire makeup industry is geared toward her. It shouldn’t be that hard to get her face right.

The dress is great. Not so much the too-big Pepto colored shoes and heavy makeup.

  • Latin Buddy

I’ve always been a sucker for early 90s Madge (hence my Avatar…and tears I shed everytime I see the Material Girl now) so I like this.

    • mjude

      god bless you

    • French_Swede

      I love your avatar!

  • In_Stitches

She stole Madonna’s face and Sharon Stone’s hair and dress. It’s not original, but it all looks smashing on her. I’ll admit, I’ve always been partial to a strong brow.

    • Imasewsure

That is who I was thinking of here… I’m picturing Sharon Stone hurling plates and obscenities at her TV screen right now

    • My brows are white blonde, and my hair is somewhere between dark blonde and brown. I get jealous over blondes with brows like hers, so I’m in full support of them.

    • Trent

I don’t know…she’s very pretty, but those are some serious chola brows.

  • FibonacciSequins

The brows and lip color together are too much. The eye makeup is too glittery for my taste and her shoes look like hot-pink boats. The best thing about this is her dress.

  • ashtangajunkie

I can’t tell if it’s the lighting or if she has gone a little too far with the bleach, but her hair looks almost grey to me. I think the brows wouldn’t be so bad if her hair didn’t seem so much lighter than usual.

    • leahpapa

On my monitor, it’s quite silver.

  • Jecca2244

she always looks like the love child of Amber Valetta and Diane Kruger to me…in fact, I think she was once a stand-in for Diane…?

  • decormaven

Getting closer on the style meter. Makes me encouraged for the next event- when she nails it, it’s going to be stunning.

  • I’m surprised that she’s looking more of her age here. Yes, the makeup is way too heavy but…she’s thisclose to looking like her age.
Meanwhile, cute dress. Booo to the heels.

  • SewingSiren

The only intentional thing that I don’t like is the too dark lipstick. The unintentional panty line is also not good.

    • kimmeister

This is proof that those “no show” panties TOTALLY show.

  • French_Swede

Hi … I have to disagree with you regarding the makeup. I think she looks stunning. And she’s smiling like she knows she is beautiful.

  • downest maven

    remind me: VPL?

    • MilaXX

      visible panty line.

  • MilaXX

Not bad. Brows are a shade too dark, shoes are the wrong color and she needs better underwear (can we celebrate the fact that she’s wearing underwear though?). Still this is a step in the right direction.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

How shall we celebrate? Fireworks? 🙂

    • smh4748

I’m weirdly comforted by the VPL, because it reassures me it can happen to anyone. 😉

  • Danielle

Serving Sharon Stone realness. Love the pink.

  • deelup

Her makeup and her lipstick clash. But I think the hair is the bigger problem. It is distracting in a very bad way.

  • Cheryl

Regarding the makeup, my thought is she was trying to look substantially different from her character, and I like her lipstick far more than some of those candy pink lips I’ve been seeing lately. Speaking of candy pink, I LOATHE those shoes.

  • Crystal

At least she doesn’t look like she’s coming from the grocery store or from yoga.

    But those shoes are terrible.

  • altalinda

For me, the makeup does not bug. BUT THOSE SHOES, ugh.

    • ktr33

me 2. too big, too bubble-gum.

  • She’d make a killer Harley Quinn, before and after.

    • demidaemon

I did detect a bit of Joker zaniness going on here.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

    She looks like a Q-tip.

  • kimmeister

The dark brows stand out even more next to the total lack of eyeliner.

The skirt is a flattened tulip skirt, but it’s still a tulip skirt nonetheless. Once she attempts to sit down it’s going to split all over the place.

  • Dan_In_NYC

Her hair is an odd shade, and the styling makes her look like Sharon Stone – which wouldn’t be awful, but she looks like current Sharon Stone, who is a fair bit older than her. Lighter brow AND toned down lip would be great. But she’s serving that white, which isn’t always something fair ladies with light hair can pull off.

  • crash1212

This really is pretty on her. I think it’s the lip that’s too strong, and the wrong color for her. The rest is working just fine.

  • ktr33

I’m pretty much just scrolling down and thumbs-upping anyone who hates the shoes. Full of irrational hatred right now. Can’t see anything else!

  • Judy_J

The too-bright lip doesn’t bother me nearly as much as those Uncle Leo eyebrows.

  • Shawn EH

Getting her Tippy on! I think there’s a (possibly misguided) 80s style surge going on right now, a bit too late for the Carrie Diaries, but oh well.

    • Sly

I saw Tippy via The Birds too. But it all looks so sophisticated!

      • Shawn EH

For some reason I’m also seeing No Way Out Sean Young. Might be the brows.

        • Yes! And I think you’re right, it’s the brows.

        • Sly

          It’s definitely the eyebrows!

  • smayper

Why is she wearing twine on her wrist?

  • demidaemon

Ooooof. That makeup and hair is NO BUENO. The dress is actually cute, though obviously a little too tight and ill fitting in the rear area. Always missing on some aspects of the the details, this one is.

  • SugarSnap108

The dress is fine save for the VPL. The shoes are awful. They belong on Pinky Tuscadero.

  • Sabin

I will never be okay with Pepto Pumps. But I have to admit, I kind of like the head. It makes me think of 90s Sharon Stone without the ‘ick’ factor.

  • The hair’s kinda fried. But she really looks gorge. I don’t like how the shoes areway toobig. Plus they’d be nicer in a deep red.

  • saintebeuve

I think the issue is that the lip color, which I like, clashes with the barbie shoes, which I… do not. Black, red, silver heels would all be an improvement.

  • Mothra

Pepto shoes? No thanks. I can also see a pantyline!

  • Aurumgirl

The shoes are so very much the wrong shade of pink. Does no one actually buy and own Casadei Blade pumps? They all seem borrowed in that they never seem to fit people.

    • Grumpy Girl

I think some of it too may be allowing for settling into the shoes? Like, they look too big here/now, when she first walks the carpet. But after an hour, they may seem just fine. then again, I am thinking like someone 25+ years older, who noticed my shoes seem bigger when I first put them on in the morning, than by the time I get to work… (I think i had that problem even back in the early 80s, when I wore heels to school . . . cause, that’s the kind of stupid thing we did back then, despite multiple flights of stairs . . .

  • MarissaLG

I don’t mind the makeup, but I find the shoes inexcusable. The color of her lips + the red in the bag + the red carpet + bubblegum shoes = :[

    • bringbackbeatles

I don’t like the shoes either. I don’t think that they’re the right color and they are definitely to big. I think the make up needs to be toned down a bit, especially the eyebrows. I would change the color of the shadow and tone down the lip a bit. But, she’s a gorgeous gal and keeps improving on the clothes, so she’ll be fine.

  • I don’t mind the hair, but – and maybe this is because of the top-down angle shot – her forehead looks enormous. She should frame her hair in a more complementary fashion. Also, no to the trashy lipstick and hot pink heels.
