Diane Kruger in Roland Mouret at “The Bridge” Season 2 Premiere

Posted on June 25, 2014

Boy, when celebrity stylists latch onto a trend, they really drive it into the ground. This summer – or possibly just this month, since you never know whether these things are going to go the distance or not – it’s all about the yellow, pointy-toed pump. We’re right on the verge of being sick of them.

Here’s the thing about this look: we love the top and the skirt, love the shoes, and love the clutch. We just think she’s asking too much of our eyes when she puts them all on at the same time. And we hate making nail color critiques, because it usually comes off so picayune, but since the nails and the shoes are the only colors in the entire look, and since both colors are eye-catching and bright, are we really being all that petty if we point out that they clash with each other?

Her head’s gorgeously styled. We’ll give her that. Love the hoops.

It looks like she’s wearing a stylish bib.

I just find it kinda blah. If the two pieces went better together, like if the dispersion of the dots widened as you went further down, then they would go together a lot better (for me, anyway)

And I don’t know why a woman would want Exorcist Green as a nail color. But then again, I’m not a woman.

      • Thomas

Blah is the correct word. That’s why I have nothing to say about this. Even the yellow pumps don’t take it out of blah territory.

      • Sarah

I like that pale green on my nails (only toes though) because I don’t do pinks/reds/corals etc. due to my naturally pink nature. Greens, blues, metallics, yes.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Personally, I’d only get Exorcist Green for a mani if I was planning on levitating – and I am a woman.

    • thecitysleeps

I really like this as a whole. And I think the shoes work with the top/skirt. I have issues with those sleeves though. They do something weird to her arms, or shoulders. Not sure. It just doesn’t look right to me.

      • Annmarie Kane

The sleeves make the wearer look like a jointed Barbie doll.

      • kimmeister

The squared armscye looks a little strange.

    • MilaXX

I mostly like the outfit. Quibbles: the skirt is too tight, the nail color & shoes clash. I honestly would have preferred yellow nails or a neutral pinky beige. I like the yellow shoes here, but I don’t like the bag with this look. It feels like it should be one focus pulling accessory only, so either the bag or the shoe.

    • Sarah

Kruger looks good. She always do. I’m wondering what the Mouret team thought having their model pose in front of a fancy pigeon mansion was gonna do for the look.

      • mjude

        I want the pigeon mansion!

      • evave2

Again Sarah! I am following you but not stalking I promise. I like the yellow shoes, they look loads better than what the model has on HER feet.

The outfit looks fantastic on her, and I like the purse.

        • Sarah

          Heh no problem. Stalk away!

    • Tee

I like the look except I would ditch the nail polish and add her muy macho co-star to complete the look.

    • NMMagpie

      Needs lip color.

      • smallgirlsaretrouble

Yup – was gonna say that is not her lip colour (or at least not with this outfit colour).

    • Constant Reader

I’m sort of over the pointy yellow pump trend AND the bare midriff top trend — although I liked this top a little more once I got a look at the back. The shape of the front really isn’t all that flattering. Her hair, makeup, and earrings look great, though.

      • kimmeister

Yes, before I scrolled down I was fully expecting this to be commentary about the upper midriff trend.

    • smh4748

I’m just going to have to make peace with the return of the midriff-baring styles, aren’t I? :( Goodness, they are everywhere.

I already survived the late 90s once, I suppose I can do it again.

      • Gatto Nero

I know. I cheered when crop tops finally died a death. Now they’ve been resurrected.
Hate both the shoes and the nails with this. The clutch is a little much, but I kind of like the pattern mixing.

    • Lex

And here I thought while reading your first paragraph you were going to launch into a tirade against the stylists forcing everyone into crop tops! It’s the crop top trend I wish would disappear back into the 80s and die a slow death. Tacky.

I don’t mind the yellow shoes- anything is better than the beige ones so let’s focus on the positive– baby steps!

    • marlie

I love the outfit, except the skirt is a smidge too tight. I don’t like THESE yellow shoes (I will never sign off on suede in June), but the patent leather ones that Olivia Munn wore yesterday could have been great. I hate the nailpolish color, and the clutch is fine, if a teensy bit too much.

    • Lori

I’d like the outfit if I wasn’t a crop top, but it seems like it’s about a half size too small on her. It’s just cutting her, especially across the bust, in a bad way. I don’t hate the yellow shoes. I don’t like yellow, but by virtue of not being beige they get a pass. Yes, the nail color and the shoes clash. She should have gone with a different nail color.

    • MissusBee

I am trying to imagine her walking in those heels plus skirt and I can’t. I’m guessing when she’s done being photographed, someone puts her in some sort of trolley and wheels her away.

      • FibonacciSequins

        A Jazzy scooter, perhaps.

    • FibonacciSequins

I love the top, skirt, clutch and shoes, and I love them all together.

Nails are the wrong color, her foundation is too heavy and I’d like to see some color on her lips.

I’m not with you on yellow shoes, not yet at least, and not these shoes.

      • Carleenml

Foundation Is Too Heavy seems to be the foundation color du jour.

    • Donna Tabor

But it would be equally annoying if she matched them, no?

I think it’s very cute. The skirt is too tight, though.

    • Jessica Freeman

Yellow shoes, all I see is Donald Duck feet.

      • Carleenml

oh man, I just pictured them on my size 10s — thank you for inspiring me to stay away from yellow shoes.

        • Jessica Freeman

          I wear a size 11. It’s comical for sure

    • Kitten Mittons

      Nope nope nope.

Skirt’s too tight, hair looks scraggly, top is oddly shaped on her, her lips have fled the country, and I hate the mint nails with the yellow shoes. I don’t mind the purse or the shoes on their own or with this outfit, but those nails with the shoes make me want to Hulk Smash something.

Too many details wrong to sign off on this. I wish that skirt fit.

Correction: I wish that skirt fit ME.

    • Shawn EH

It’s a werq for me! Modern Day Marlena.

    • dustinrhodes

She’s beautiful, stylish, blah blah blah…but something always (OK, not always) reads Fashion Victim to me. Also, I think I am prejudiced against the skinny blonde archetype, which is nothing but painfully boring to me.

      • Kitten Mittons

I’ll join you on that one. I don’t always get Fashion Victim from her, but I kinda see her more as the new Sienna Miller. Her style settings are on Easy, and clothes just look good on her (former model). But I get the feeling (probably unfairly) that her team does the heavy lifting. I don’t think her instincts are always that good.

Again, maybe that’s unfair, but I don’t see her as the fashionista everyone was hoping she’d be. I find her a little boring as well. And lucky.

        • KinoEye

She’s actually one of those rare stars who styles herself. Knowing that, she’s done pretty damn good for herself. But she bores me too — when you’re a German, blonde former model, clothes are your bitch. Not much difficulty involved.

          • Kitten Mittons

Interesting to note. Well, then she deserves more credit than I gave her, but then she deserves the criticism as well.

That’s why I want a stylist, anyway. Pass the buck for the bad stuff.

    • Wink

Didn’t Madonna wear this in her Borderline video? Crop top, tight pencil skirt and bright yellow pumps?

    • Sofia

the polka dots all over the outifit and huge yellow pumps make this look cartoonish to me. she could have solved the problem with that top in solid black or keep the top as is and deploy a sexy strappy sandal or pump in black.

    • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

I love the look. It’s a good deployment of the yellow pumps, and the different scales of the polka dots keeps it looking modern and not Minnie Mouse. The clutch might be a little much, but I imagine something else and it goes matchy. So I’m calling it a win, Miss Kruger.

    • Tami from Seattle

      Love all! Want the bag!

    • TAGinMO

The yellow shoes aren’t the greatest, but they’re better than those horrible flats on the model, which make her look as though her feet have deflated.

    • Audrey Lee

Not impressed. She generally wears much better clothes

    • E.Nelson

I LOVE a good sea foam or celadon nail against black and white patterns – it’s odd and esoteric, I know, just like my passion for any and all metallic copper-colored dress shoes/pumps with ANYTHING.

That being said I hate her shoes.

    • Introspective

hating the pointy yellow pump trend. really not feeling it here. a white high heeled sandal might have worked here.

as it stands the yellow is just too. much. shoe. (love the nail color though.)

    • Annmarie Kane

I like the yellow shoes more than the black ones on the model.

    • jilly_d

I’ll take those yellow pumps any day over those monstrosities on the model’s feet.

      • kimmeister

        They look like fish skeletons!

    • conniemd

Love me some Diane Kruger. She looks great. Love “The Bridge” too.

    • kimmeister

I like the yellow pumps here better than the last few deployments featured on this site. Yellow/black/white is generally a winning combo for me. It’s the nail color that is out of place, also the clutch.

    • quiltrx

To me, that outfit is just awful. It doesn’t fit, it wouldn’t be flattering if it DID fit, and it looks like it came from Wet Seal. NO.

    • majorbedhead

I cannot get behind suede shoes in the summertime. Blech.

    • decormaven

I’m not a fan of the mani color, but everything else is working here. The yellow shoe is better with this outfit than other looks we’ve seen.

    • https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Farmhouse-Store/95951940388 Bill Curtis

      Daisy Duck shoes. Just sayin’.

    • bluefish

LOVE the outfit — stellar. And the clutch. Bit of color on the lips would’ve been nice. Not crazy about those shoes with the garment. And green nails are never okay. She does look beautiful.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

      Nude lips…urge to style, rising….

    • Imasewsure

      Dots!!! Love all of it

    • nannypoo

I hate the yellow shoes. And what is that sticker on the bottom? I hope it’s not a bar code.

    • Alexa42

In three years of following T and Lo religiously, this is the first time I’ve actually been at the event where the Lady Star was photographed – I am inordinately thrilled and not feeling Bitter at all!! I have to say in person (I was three rows from the stage) she was positively stunning. And she was seated right next to the so very guapo Demian Bichir who was a perfect accessory.

    • Mothra

I would love that outfit if the top and bottom were attached. I have a thing for polka dots, but the yellow shoes just reminds me of southern sunday go to church outfits. And I love yellow.

    • CPK1

i love the look minus the aqua fresh nail color. I can prob tolerate the yellow pumps for a couple more days

    • elemspbee

      hot!

    • LadyVimes

She has too much chest for that top. Aka she has a chest. That top is not chest compatible.

    • Tracy_Flick

She’s on my irrational hate list, so I’ll zip my lips.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

The top and skirt are cute, but I would like both better if they were paired with different pieces-the top with a solid bottom, etc.

    • Columbinia

Am I seeing a price tag on the bottom of the shoe in the last picture?

    • Madam Von Sassypants

FINALLY! MY YELLOW, POINTED TOE, PATENT LEATHER PUMPS ARE BAAAAAAACK! Excuse me while I go wear them like it was all a fashionable accident.

    • Sophie

Love the clutch/shoulder-bag. It looks really good, as well as wearable for more everyday occasions.

    • Candigirl1968

Please please please, let the midriff trend die.

    • berkeleygirl

I thought she didn’t use stylists?

    • http://www.bertkeeter.com Bert Keeter

That top is not cut for most grown women…. It just looks awkward, pulling up like that!

    • PumpkintheCat

I love black and white and yellow. I think she looks lovely.

    • roche

Inelegant, uncomfortable, and sickly makeup. Shoes are dopey. I mean, pointy-toed banana-yellow pumps? And in that last shot – she doesn’t like this outfit either. But the purse is super cute.

    • judybrowni

At least she’s not wearing the model’s shoes, which make the model’s feet look deformed.

    • d4divine

I think she looks fab. I like that the nail color and shoe color clash. I like the texture contrast with the top/skirt and clutch. A+

    • FridaStaire

no no no. Hate it all. Skirt too tight, midriff tacky, nail colour vile, lip colour worse…..(Ok, I quite like the shoes).

    • MoHub

I kinda find the pointy-toed pumps—with normal soles—refreshing after years of platform hoof shoes, although I still won’t wear them. But what’s with this trend of suede shoes in the summer? We’re seeing an awful lot of those these ddays.

    • BayTampaBay

I think Diane’s skirt is too tight. She needs to go up a size. Agree with TLo, the nail polish is the wrong color.

    • Beardslee

It’s a shame that “pop of color” is always taken so literally. A less neon yellow would have been nicer here, more subtle and sophisticated I think.

    • Danielle

I don’t mind the shoes with the outfit, it’s the strip of bare belly making my eyes twitch. Why are crops STILL a thing?

    • Monabel

I can only see the ghastly foundation. Not even her face.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

      Blah. Meh. Nails? UGH.

    • altermyego

The picture of the model – if they chose that as the best photo to put out to the public, I’d hate to see the rejects. What is wrong with these people?
OTOH I love yellow with black and white but the yellow needs to be toned down a few shades.

    • lchopalong

My fiance’s parents live in Picayune. I had no idea it had an alternate meaning. Love it!

    • JynxTheCat

Magic foot enlarging focus puling yellow shoes. Even Ronald McDonald has the good sense to keep the yellow off his foot.
