Stephen Amell at the 2014 Kentucky Derby

Posted on May 05, 2014

Here is your moment of adorable-yet-also-hot-at-the-same-time for today, darlings.

We’re chalking the neckbeard up to being a requirement for his role, the tailoring is slightly off, and we wish we could see sleeve cuffs peeking out, but you can’t fault him for the effort. Or for the outcome, for that matter. Like we said: hot and cute. Can’t beat that combo.

All I see is Pee Wee Herman

      • 3boysful

I’ll grant them the cuteness, but with these togs and the non-smile, there’s a whiff of “I’ve escaped prison in the guise of an ice cream vendor!” to it.

      • Raspberry2012

Yeah, I was totally going to say “Serving up Pee Wee Herman realness!”, but you beat me to it by about, oooohhh, 19 hours! ;-)

      • Pterodactyl111

Yep. He’s just not doing it for me in this get up.

    • Beardslee

Great spring suit. Too bad it’s a tad early for white bucks.

      • Sarah

Is it? I think he needs lighter shoes, for sure.

    • Danielle

Would it kill ya to smile? Love the cheeky orange bowtie.

      • gabbilevy

Head over to his (surprisingly well done) Facebook page. He smiles all the time — PLUS — so many pictures of his baby girl!!

      • barbarienne

He has a really good smile! Alas, his role as angsty-wangsty Arrow means not much smiling on the show. Maybe they tell him to go out and try to look serious. But since he’s at the Kentucky Derby, it wouldn’t be amiss for him to do the “Ollie being charming” thing!

        • Danielle

I know! That’s why I’m sad he’s not smiling here!

      • In_Stitches

Yeah, the stone-cold face plus the buzz cut makes that second pic look like a mug shot. The clothes are so joyful though; I love it.

    • ojosazules

      Very Derby. Well done.

    • jw_ny

Needed a straw boater hat to complete the look. :)

      (and yes…sleeve cuffs showing)

    • WendyD

      Thank you dearest Uncles!
<— I LOVE Stephen Amell!! The neckbeard is because he's currently done with his role and on hiatus/vacation. He's the best. And oh so hot!

      • colleenjanel

I’m not sure that vacation is an excuse to not groom properly when you know you’re going to be on a red carpet.

    • Imasewsure

He’s wearing an orange bow tie and a fun little suit and he still can’t smile? I don’t like this guy at all

      • Kent Roby

He looks like he should be hanging out with Kit Harington so they can commiserate on how horrible it is to be young, healthy, handsome, famous, and wealthy.

        • Imasewsure

The Grumpy Hunks Club…. you nailed it

    • B_C_J

Love the color. Love the fact that it is a real bow tie. He is gorgeous. As pointed out by jw_ny, the only other accessory needed would have been a boater to make this perfect.

      • Ginger

I’m with you on loving the self-tie bow tie! I’m over the moon that bow ties are in style right now. Both of my teenage boys love them, wear them and can tie their own. They keep me busy with making them new ones with coordinating suspenders.

        • B_C_J

How lovely! I still have two bow ties that my mother made for me when I was in college. I cherish them. I am sure your sons will too. :-))

    • homofascist

I was just in Louisville for Derby weekend – didn’t go to the Derby but went to the Oaks the day before. I was in HEAVEN! Gorgeous men in the most beautiful suits with great shoes…seriously it was fantastic. I tweeted the uncles with my WITFU ensemble. I want to dress like a dandy every day now! Well, more than I already do…

    • imspinningaround

I hate telling people to smile, buuuuuut…it’s the Derby, bro, not a police lineup. Have a julep and cut loose a little.

    • MilaXX

Bless his heart. I love that he went for it. The tie is adorable.

    • VicD

NOOOOOOO Is that a pink shirt with an orange bow tie? That kills it for me.

    • clatie

Really? I think he looks demented.

    • MartyBellerMask

      Um, no. Very no.

    • andi56

I think it’s lovely, but then again, I’m a Virginian. : ) As soon as it gets warm, the seersucker and bow ties come out.

      • marlie

I have a weakness for seersucker, too. :)

        • andi56

Nothing like it, for the humidity!

    • stephbellard

I only have to hear/read his name and I shudder involuntarily with lust.

    • http://www.snoskred.org/ Snoskred

      DO.NOT.WANT.

    • ChiKat67

A smile would have totally sold this look, fit issues notwithstanding.

    • IMNAngryLiberal

Adore me some Arrow, but that suit is just too tight and the jacket length and sleeve length are too short. It makes him look kind of short and stumpy which he is soooo not!

    • Kirstin McAulay

Not bad at all, but if you’d like to slip off that suit….

    • teensmom99

I’ve been a Bitter Kitten for too long, apparently. I can’t get over the tailoring issues.

    • dea

“Yum!”… I agree with the background.

    • Jessica Freeman

Mug shot realness. I unabashedly love him, its hard for me to hate.

    • Whitney Evans

NO seersucker with dark shoes! White bucks required. It’s after Easter.

    • a_liking

does he totally look like Will Forte’s younger brother to anyone else? It’s all I can see when I look at him!
anyway I like this look in theory but it’s not quite living up to potential. I think a different pair of pants and shoes would really set the look off.

    • James

He needs different shoes. He also needs to smile. I still love him, he’s such a sweetie.

    • jonnyf8

the eyes match the suit so nicely.

    • AnnaleighBelle

      Cheeky comes to mind.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Not withstanding my known interest in stroking buzzcut hair, I have issues with this. Mostly, I think he mugged someone slightly smaller backstage and changed into his suit.

    • t bell

I think that the YUM! sign on the billboard in the 3rd picture pretty well sums it up for me.

    • smayer

I gotta call this one a big NO. The double-breasted jacket makes him look boxy. Orange tie and pale pink shirt? NO. The brown shoes take the cake, though. He looks like he was slogging through the mud. Put on a properly tailored suit and a white shirt and shoes with that tie, Stephen. Then we’ll have a good old time.

    • JauntyJohn

The sum is greater than the whole of its parts.
Issues and quibbles on the already-mentioned points of tailoring, etc., but the overall effect is a BIG Win.
In other words, the sum really IS yum.

      • Jacob Bowen

Yeah, I can even see past the fact that it’s double breasted…because you are right, YUM.

    • marlie

If this were for any other event, I would think that he looks laughable. But I love a blue and orange combo, and I have a weakness for bowties.

      • demidaemon

The bowtie is my favorite part of the outfit!

    • FibonacciSequins

I have no idea who he is, and I’m not a fan of double-breasted suits, but he looks perfectly appropriate for the event and cute as hell.

    • Mothra

I like all the attempts in this outfit, but the bow tie looks like it is simple grosgrain ribbon from hobby lobby, the pants don’t seem to fit right and there should be a rule (if there isn’t already) about double breasted suits at and after the first weekend in May I don’t know why. I just have a problem with it. I might need to start a kickstarter to get it passed into fashion vernacular law. I’m drowning in the blue of his eyes though. Meow.

    • unbornfawn

      Adorable.

    • Derrick Austin

The Pee Wee drag is not a good look. He’s always been that slightly stoned guy with obscene bulges. That’s the trick to his hotness.

    • ShaoLinKitten

Give that suit to Bill Nye and come on over here in whatever’s left.

    • Man Dala

I hate double breasted suits, I find that they make ANY man look boxy. But somehow he can get away with it. I love the orange bow tie. He is the epitome of a beautiful man.

    • SophieCollier

How can you see anything but Pee Wee Herman here? The suit looks like fancy pajamas.

    • Fannie Wolston

an excellent look for derby day, (my horse was Decidedly in ’62 ) the brogues camouflage the horse shit cause you know he has a pit pass.

    • LadyVimes

Venue appropriate and original. Snaps, boyo. From a boy-star looks-judging standpoint, I think I’d like him more with longer hair.

    • Jacob Bowen

Seriously he stole my suit. I have been imagining purchasing this exact suit for this summer, and he BEAT ME TO IT!

    • dmkava

what is with the neckbeard hate? Sometimes when it’s shaved it looks too fake. A neck beard looks especially hot on the long bearded thin hipster type…

      • girlsaturday

I love me some neckbeard too! (Of course I’ve been dating a software developer for the past three years, so…)

      • conniemd

I don’t mind neckbeard at all. There’s something about a scruffy male. Stephen Amell is at the top of my hot male drooley list right night.

    • Mr. J.

Oh, he’s just a luscious creamsicle…..I want one!!!!

    • malarson2

Love love LOVE the pale pink with the orange. It’s so right.

    • Alexis Wenceslao

      Neckbeard is SEXY.
