God bless these two old queens.

They’re so fucking adorable they make us pee sunshine.

They are not, however, impeccable. We’re gonna give them a slight pass because really; how much primping are these two old lions expected to do anymore? We just wish Ian had worn a different color shirt to contrast the bright blue lining inside his coat and we wish Sir Patrick had buttoned his jacket. Kudos to them both on the overall looks, though. Velvet blazers and purple suits, bitches. These are your sartorial goals for your seventies.

And before you jump all over us (and as a test to see who actually reads the posts and who doesn’t): Sir Patrick is an honorary queen  – and would more than likely happily and proudly receive that title.

    Sighhhhh….I love their Love.

    • Lucía Gavello

I want to bar hop with them so hard.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Imagine the stories they have to tell! I was just thinking that I’d love to do the same, or stand them to a good bottle of single malt Scotch and let them talk all night.

        • DebbieLovesShoes

        • demidaemon

Patrick Stewart still has the sexiest voice, too! Captain Picard, be still my heart!

          • marlie

Before there was the Cumberbatch voice, there was the Stewart voice. Always my favorite.

          • demidaemon

          • Make it so.

          • Trent

You must see him live. I went to his Macbeth on Bway several years ago, and he was so amazing that I went back twice. What other actor could do Shakespeare, Star Trek, X-Men and the American Dad cartoon and have them all be equally credible? He is a TREASURE.

And yes, it was my dream to somehow come across these two BFFs in one of the many bars they frequented after their recent Bway collaboration…LOVE THEM. *sigh*

          • His Macbeth was amazing. The sight of a man eating a ham sandwich and delivering a speech without choking or losing his lines was one of the most extraordinary things I’ve ever seen.

          • Trent

Right? That staging was so involving and moving and exciting. And THAT VOICE.

          • ellisd123

And let’s not forget the episode of Cosmos he did!

            I absolutely adore these two.

          • irielle

You are so lucky getting to meet them. My ex saw Patrick Stewart in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf at the Guthrie in Minneapolis and thought he was incredible. One of my regrets was not being able to go with him.

      • Emily Smith

I just want to have a girls night with snacks and listen to them tell stories.

        • H2olovngrl

          Those voices!!!

          • Leah Elzinga

even a series of video diaries would make me soooo happy. Just like, 10 min little clips I could refer back to when I’m losing faith in humanity.

          • TLJezebel

I want them to talk dirty to me.

        • gabbilevy

I took one of those awful (and yet so addicting) Buzzfeed quizzes about which celebrity should be your BFF or some such nonsense and got them, and near died with happiness. They’re the best.

    • kmk05

Did you see that interview they did together? It was at a Con, I think, and they made them play the ‘Newlywed game’ where they ask a question to both of them about the other, and they both have to write down the answer and the goal is to see if the answers match. You’d expect them to know each other inside out, but actually… they hilariously do not! It’s ridiculously awesome.

      • fursa_saida

Ugh, that was SO CUTE. It was like, they got every answer different but not wrong. They’d turn their cards around and whoever was being guessed about would look at the other one’s guess and go, “Oh, excellent point, I forgot about that” or “I suppose I do say that all the time, that’s true.”

        • kmk05

They were ridiculous! Actually like a married couple with partners who are complementary and who know so much about each other that they have multiple answers to the same question. SO AMAZING.

      • DebbieLovesShoes

I would love to see that. Where can I find it?

        • kmk05

Google ‘Sir Patrick Stewart sir Ian Mckellen Newlyweds’ and the youtube link should pop up (I would link to it but the comment would get put into moderation!)

          • DebbieLovesShoes

TY! I love them so much and will enjoy this.

          • DebbieLovesShoes

LOVED IT. “I saw his Widow Twankey…. and that is NOT a loaded comment!” Read in Sir Patrick’s voice. Awesome.

          • didgerdoni

Well, now my face hurts from smiling.

    • lrhg

I saw the two of them in Waiting for Godot on the West End. I HATE that play and always have, but it absolutely made me understand why they are the stars that they are. Anyone who can enthrall you for a two hour play that’s purpose is that it has no purpose is doing something right.

Also they came out and did a little dance at the end when they did their bow and it was the cutest thing ever.

    • ConnieBV

      They are my OTP.

      • @Biting Panda

        Your Outside The Perimeter?

        • ConnieBV

          One True Pairing.

  • Sam Smith

Adorbs, like the color of Sir Patrick’s suit.

  • Christine Hart

    Marriage agrees with Picard 🙂

  • <3 <3 <3 So much better than most stars 1/3 of their age.

  • BLauD

They could look terrible and I would still love them and giggle just thinking about the mischief they must get up to together.

    • holla

I would love to see what mischief they get up to.

  • Kate Andrews

I love them too, and Sir Patrick would indeed love that title, I’m sure. They’re awesome BFFs.

    • Carrie

They are the perfect bromance. It’s a joy song them together

  • ChiKat67

Aw…I love these two so much!

  • MoHub

“Honorary queen.” Love it! Those two are my real-life Tweedledum and Tweedledee.

    • Kitten Mittons

      That’s perfect!

  • MilaXX

I can’t bring myself to complain. These two have more charisma and charm in their pinkies than the entire cast put together.

  • StelledelMare

I always love seeing them together, they’re too adorable for words.

  • Angela_the_Librarian

I’m sure they have a blast playing adversaries in the XMen franchise. I think they both look great here!

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I love Crow by the way. I LOVED that show!!! I miss it very much.

      • Angela_the_Librarian

Ooh, I would recommend checking our Rifftrax (if you haven’t already). It’s the guys who made MST3K doing pretty much the same thing sans robot. They are doing a live event in July (beamed out to movie theaters across the US/Canada) for Sharknado!!

  • SylviaFowler

They are a cute couple. Looking good too!

  • Sarah

Hell YES purple and green Captain Picard! And Gandalf, well, that is some SERIOUS coat porn, as far as I’m concerned.

    • ccinnc

Patrick Stewart’s suit and tie make me want to go out RIGHT NOW and buy something aubergine and chartreuse. If those are the correct colors. 🙂 Whatever, they look amazing together.

      • Sarah

They are and good on you for being eloquent about it. DO IT!

      • ballerinawithagun

My favorite color word, Aubergine! And one of my favorite color combos!

      • Maya KC

Did nobody else look at that suit and think Joker?

        • laylagalise

Yes!!!! That’s the first thing I thought of!

  • Anna

I would SO watch a male version of Golden Girls starring these two, I think that really needs to happen.

    • Sarah

Who can the other two senior fellows be? Hmm…fantasy casting wheels a’ turnin’.

      • boweryboy

Michael Douglas as Sophia? George Clooney as Blanche?

        • Sarah

I thought Blanche was Sir Ian, haha.

          • boweryboy

Ahh… I can see that. Then Clooney as Rose.

        • Betsy

George Clooney was on Golden Girls.

          • AnaRoW

I thought he was Golden Palace, the god-awful sequel to Golden Girls. Anyway, he’s about two decades too young to be in a group with these two.

          • Lenora Dody

Just to prove that instead of the cure for cancer, I have completely useless trivia in my head- George played one of the cops that stayed at their house when they were staking out the neighbors!

          • MoHub

He was also a semi-regular on Roseanne.

          • Lenora Dody

And that classic, The Facts of Life! But I know this is totally off topic. I love these two and agree it would be wonderful to hang out with them and listen to their stories.

          • Constant Reader

You beat me to it, right down the the disclaimer about the unfortunate lack of more useful information in my head. 🙂

          • AnaRoW

Oh okay. I went and looked it up. I must have been thinking of Don Cheadle. I remember Betty White apologizing to some actor that was in Ocean’s Eleven.

          • demidaemon

I just wrote the same thing!

          • Maya

There was a sequel to Golden Girls?! How did anyone let that even attempt to happen?!

          • MoHub

I think it was an attempt to do an American version of Fawlty Towers. Thank Heaven it die a quick death.

          • Kitten Mittons

Yes, one of two spin-offs. The other was Empty Nest, which I remember more vividly than Golden Palace.

          • demidaemon

Because it was better and ran while Golden Girls was still on.

          • Kitten Mittons

And because it had Dreyfus, the clear break-out star of Empty Nest.

          • demidaemon

            You are so right!

          • Anna

I heart you for posting that! I lived for Dreyfus’s (and his puppies) guest appearances.

          • Kitten Mittons

*Gasp* THE PUPPIES. I forgot all about the puppies!

          • Anna

*Gasp* Loved when Rose adopted one and named it Bingo, but the other girls wouldn’t let her keep him. I googled what breed of dog Dreyfus was awhile back and was oddly comforted that other people had the same asinine query as I did.

          • Kitten Mittons

            We are not alone.

          • demidaemon

Because the only reason Golden Girls ended was because Bea Arthur was ready to be done, unfortunately, and the show was still extremely popular, so the network wanted to capitalize on who they had left.

          • demidaemon

He guest starred as a cop who was doing surveillance on one of their neighbors in the original GG.

      • rockin robin

I vote Danny Glover and Harrison Ford.

        • rockin robin

With occasional guest appearances by Bruce Willis.

        • understateddiva

Harrison Ford would be a great Sophia – he has the grumpy thing down pat.

      • Jessica Freeman

There would have to be some Sean Connery in there somewhere.

        • AnaRoW

Ugh, No! The last thing Golden Boys needs is a pompous windbag chewing up the scenery.

          • MoHub

But he could be the Brit male version of Sophia. I’d pay to see that.

      • Noah

I’d have said Peter O’Toole (may he rest in peace.)

        • Anna

Him and Richard Harris would’ve been my first choices.

          • Carleenml

Peter O’Toole, Richard Harris, Oliver Reed…if there is a heaven I will be drinking with them someday. Or, okay, we’ll all be in hell drinking and that will be okay, too.

          • Anna

It would be a hell of a good time ;-)!

          • bitchybitchybitchy

O’Toole, Harris and Reed-now that would have been one mega pub crawl.May they all rest in peace, and if Heaven is a friendly place, they are all hoisting a pint now.

      • Anna

John Cleese and Eddie Izzard for me.

        • alyce1213

I heart Eddie Izzard, but he’s too young!

          • Anna

Yeah, you’re right. I was thinking of Rue McClanahan who was the youngest of the cast, but Eddie Izzard would be quite a bit younger. Either Liam Neeson or Alan Rickman, then. Or both!

          • MoHub

Alan Rickman would have to be Dorothy.

          • Anna

          • Constant Reader

I really like that idea! He’s got just the right ability to deliver deadpan sarcasm.

          • Kitten Mittons

            Oh my word, that’s inspired.

          • Carleenml

            hahaha! yes.

        • Kitten Mittons

John Cleese would be a must.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

Halloooo! Mrs. Sartre? Muriel? Comment allez vous? Oh, Merde!

          • Sarah

Yesss to John Cleese. He’s the Betty White! Just clever enough to play simple well!

          • Danielle

Basically anyone who was in Monty Python.

          • MoHub

Michael Palin would be my choice.`

      • kimmeister

Christopher Walken doesn’t fit any of the archetypes, but I would welcome him as an addition to just about any cast.

        • Are you kidding? He’s totally Sophia with his own spin.

      • ShaoLinKitten

CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER! Please, let this get made!

        • Anna

SOO much YES for Christopher Plummer.

        • quiltrx

Old Edelweiss (as he’s forever known in our house) MUST be a part of this!

      • charlotte

Has anyone mentioned Bill Nighy yet?

        • Sarah

          Nope, good on you!

      • lundibleu

Derek Jacobi would have to be one, surely. Oh, or Billy Connolly.

    • True Detective Season 2!

      • random_poster

YES! A thousand times YES to this!!

      • Carleenml

if this hasn’t found its way into a meme yet, you MUST. Twitter awaits you.

    • alliekat9090

      The Odd Couple!

    • ellisd123

      Yes, please!

    • quiltrx

Can we have Tom Hiddleston as a son or nephew in this? He’s one of the few younger stars I can think of who seems to have as much zest for life as these two!

      • Anna

That casting has my vote. I could totally see him as McKellen’s character’s son.

  • gayle

They are adorable and that color looks fantastic on Sir Patrick!

  • Kent Roby

I love them both. And now I want to re-watch “Jeffrey” to see Mr. Stewart’s pretend-gay awesomeness.

    • Denise Alden

He was also delightfully “pretend-gay” in an old episode of “Frasier” as an opera director. Adorable!

    • demidaemon

I do love him in that movie!

  • M_E_S

I hope that me and my BFFs are this awesome when we enter our golden years. I friend!ship them so hard, it just fills me with utter joy.

  • Kimmu

I have no idea what you are talking about for I live in a world where Sir Ian and Sir Patrick are two beautiful old queens who will live happily together until the end of time brightening my life by simply existing and enjoying each other’s company so much. I love the purple suit. I saw them in No Man’s Land in January and their chemistry really is amazing to witness and they were both so gracious and welcoming with fans afterwards.

This movie is going to be a train wreck of awful, but I still am going to see it solely for them as old Charles and Erik. My shipper goggles will never not be on when it comes to Professor X and Magneto.

    • Brittney P

Their love is basically canon in the comic books!

      • Kimmu

As far as I am concerned, they are each other’s most important person in canon and that trumps everything else.

    • Ms_flyover

I had the pleasure of seeing them in Waiting for Godot (ok, so I flew to NYC from South freaking Dakota JUST to see them in Godot), and they do have chemistry together most couples would die for. Just splendid. They are on my “show up in shopping bags, I don’t care” list along with Meryl Streep and Emma, the crazy British Aunt. Sometimes personality just shines through any outfit.

I do love the purple suit, though.

      • Kimmu

Yeah I drove up to NYC just to spend the day with a friend and see them and I am so glad I did. The play was excellent and it was great to spend a little bit of time with them afterwards for photos and autographs. And to see Sir Ian in a pair of skinny jeans and Uggs, which because they were on him, were adorable.

      • marlie

Can you imagine the fun that would be had by all if there was a dinner party with Ian, Patrick, Meryl and Emma? I’d pay boatloads of money to go to that.

    • gorghast

The movie is shockingly getting pretty great reviews. A lot of 4/5 stars out there.

      • Kimmu

I think the first one got decent reviews, but I intensely disliked it thanks to really blatant sexism and racism that permeated the whole movie.

    • Jenmac

We saw them in No Man’s Land too. You’re right about how gracious they were with their fans. They even took time out at the stage door to chat with my 14-year-old son for about 5 minutes and made his life complete.
      Gah, I love these two!
The 14-year-old is gonna insist on a purple suit as soon as he sees this. I will certainly have to oblige him! 🙂

      • Kimmu

I really enjoyed the play. We decided on No Man’s Land since we’re both seen Waiting for Godot with various actors several times before and I am glad we did. It was raining afterwards and we still got autographs and pictures and Sir Ian even laughed at my terrible joke when he asked where I was from.

    • fursa_saida

I don’t know how anyone can not ship Professor X and Magneto. Like, how hard does a person have to work at it not see that their entire story is about TRUE LOVE GONE SOUR.

      • demidaemon

    • Dandesun

As far as I’m concerned, X-Men: First Class is a beautiful, tragic love story between Charles and Erik… and I think MacAvoy has said as much himself. So, I don’t think the shipper goggles need to be amped up very strong to see it.

  • YoungSally

NPH and David B. in 30 years — we can all hope. Actually I could see Sir and Sir rocking those Thom Browne tuxes better than the young’uns

    • bitchybitchybitchy

No doubt that Sir Patrick and Sir Ian have the panache to rock Thom Browne-imagine the fun they, and their fans would have if they sashayed down the RC thus attired. I’m grinning just thinking of it.

    • Kent Roby

NPH, yes; but I never get any sort of charisma from David B. Then again, I probably just hate him for having such a talented husband.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

We all know that our fantasy spouses should have us by their sides rather than their totally unworthy real spouses, now don’t we?

        • demidaemon

  • boweryboy

I love how you can tell they truly enjoy each other’s company.

    • stellamaris73

Sheer delight! It’s a joy to see.

  • Capt. Renault

    “Honorary Queen”: new life goal.

    • understateddiva

That was exactly what I thought – for TLo to make you an honorary queen is like being knighted!!

  • Jessica Freeman

Patrick’s purple suit and green polka dot tie are making my morning. I love love love it.

    • kimmeister

I would expect that suit to be on someone 50 years his junior, who wouldn’t pull it off and who would be labeled as a “try-hard.” Mr. Stewart is showing them how it’s DONE.

  • I love seeing people be friends. The space for relationships that aren’t family or lovers doesn’t get enough appreciation. And that is more important on this occasion than Patrick Stewart’s hems.

    • Anna

Jerry Seinfeld has a series called, “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” and one of the best episodes ever featured real life BFFs Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks. Just adorable!

      • formerlyAnon

I heard a radio piece maybe a year ago, a little more?, with Carl Reiner. He said at that time that since they were both widowed, they’ve had dinner and a movie night at one of their homes once or twice a week every week that they’ve both been in town. Considering that even if it was three years ago, he was 89 & Brooks 84, I thought that was wonderful.

        • Anna

Awesome! At the time the show was taped (2012), he mentioned that they’ve been friends for 53 years. Love that!

        • That’s so lovely! I wonder what they watch?

          • Anna

Ha, I can tell you exactly (Carl Reiner tells Jerry on the show): Jeopardy, baseball games and they like movies where somebody says, “Get some rest” or “Secure the perimeter.”

  • YAY. So glad you featured these two. They make my life. They do dress MARVELOUSLY, not just for their age, but compared to all the younger men and boystars.

  • Therese Bohn

Love ’em! Wish they were in charge of government!

  • Janet B

    Gorgeous colors, gorgeous men.
I prefer an unbuttoned jacket when men put their arms around others.

  • Gatto Nero

I wondered about the “two old queens” comment. Thank you for clarifying.
    God I love them both.

  • NBG

    These two are pure joy.

  • Cathy S

    I love them so much.

  • karinlee

These two seem to just be having the time of their lives every time they appear in public (or on Sir Patrick’s twitter feed). Bless them both; they’ve earned it in spades.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Velvet, purple, all of that phenonmenal talent teamed with two men who are world class mensches-what’s not to love?

  • In_Stitches

I wish Patrick had gone for a different colored tie. Purple and green are always going to read Joker to me. A gold or cobalt would have been perfect.

    • alliekat9090

Purple and green are two of my favorite colors together. Always have been. I dont know why.

      • quiltrx

Totally with you on this one alliekat! Purple is my favorite color, and nothing I love more with it than green.

  • alyce1213

Look who brought class and COLOR to the RC! Sir Patrick is perfect — I love the choice of tie and pocket square with the aubergine suit. (OK, I’m redecorating and just painted an accent wall green and got a deep plum couch, so I’m partial to that combo.)
I love Sir Ian’s bright shirt, it pops. Also love his overcoat and the black velvet jacket.

  • flamingoNW

Love the honorary title. Totally think that’s true!

  • mjude

I love them both so much. how fun it would be just to hang out for the day with them.

  • Danielle

  • suzanne77

I really like how the long coat tail lined with electric blue is so reminiscent of a super hero cape! Despite what Edna Mode says, I love a cape! It’s a classic look. Sir Patrick is a little more reminiscent of The Joker in his old age, but his face is pretty damn ageless! I mean, he’s basically looked the same since DUNE, Mf’ers! That’s pretty great.

  • alliekat9090

I get the same feeling looking at them as I get when I look at a basket of puppies.

  • j_am

The viral marketing campaign/tour of NYC they did to promote their show last winter was GENIUS.

  • I love them so much. They are my favorite set of famous friends.

  • Jennifer Bober

LOL! I was going to say, Sir Patrick’s wife might quibble with that comment, though I agree that he’d love the honorary title. The bromance with these two is a riot and if you saw any of the pics of them around NY in bowler hats you know what I mean. They both rock!

  • Stacey Summerville

Ok, that’s it…I’m smiling the rest of the damn day!

  • Adelaidey

These two are the champions of straight/gay best friendship. I can only hope my straight best friend and I are as impeccable when our turn comes to be old and beloved by millions.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

      Honorary grandpas or uncles!

  • KinoEye

No doubt he’d be tickled pink to be named an Honorary Queen. The selfies they took in New York were just delightful beyond words. Love, love, love them! Not to mention they look smashing, quibbles aside. Putting in the effort and looking better than the silly young ones in gray suits.

  • I think Sir Patrick won honorary queen status way back in the ’90s with “Jeffrey”

  • SugarSnap108

Their BFF-ery makes me weep (sunshine). They can do no wrong.

  • LiliLynch

Their genuine friendship and joie de vivre (did I spell that correctly?) shine through in every photo I see of them…they make me smile and boy would they be cool to hang out with : )

    • kimmeister

Yes, that’s the correct spelling. 🙂

  • NMMagpie

    Make it so. 🙂

  • cleva1

Love them both! I had the pleasure of seeing Sir Ian on stage in 1988. He has a spellbinding and joyful presence.

  • andreawey

a magnificent pair no matter what they’re wearing!

  • Frank_821

Some people say Patrick Steward is channeling the Joker but since this a Marvel Comics movie I was thinking the Green Goblin 🙂

  • Valdri8

I would still totally do Patrick Stewart anywhere.

    • Marie

I maintain he’s the oldest person I’d have sex with and I think it’s still true.

      • Valdri8

If he brings along either his JLP uniform OR the lobster suit, the above could hold true well into his 80’s

        • demidaemon

          After my own heart!

        • saintebeuve

Oh, god, the lobster suit! I nearly died (of happiness).

          • Valdri8

I know that he could still “make it so”, if you get my drift.

          • joything

I had to Google the lobster suit, and I’m glad I did.

          • saintebeuve

It’s really just delightful. He talks about it during a Daily Show interview, if you didn’t find that in your searches.

  • BlairBear

they have more chemistry than 90% of couples on the red carpet and no I am not trying to start some they are secretly in love thing. Just there is so much affection and respect there.

  • Shelby

I so have a thing for epic friendships (in fiction an in life), and they top my “Favorite Epic Friendship in Real Life” list.

  • random_poster

This post made my morning. Thank you for the fabulous-ness!

  • abishagijh

I just wish Sir Patrick’s tie was a bit longer…

  • MyFavoriteColorIsGlitter

I want to party with them so bad.

  • Candigirl1968

25 years from now, this will be Damon and Clooney. I hope they are this adorable.

    • Imasewsure

No sorry… old Americans will never rate compared to these Grand Dames of the UK… we Americans just don’t have the flair, the accents or well.. the flair again

  • TLJezebel

P Stew has been on my “to do” list for years.

  • formerlyAnon

I don’t, as a rule, follow celebrities intentionally.

I do type these guys’ names, separately & together, into my search box periodically. Cruise their twitters a couple of time a month. (Stewart recently posted a picture of a plastic 7-day, am/pm pill sorter, filled and doubly secured with rubber bands with the comment “All packed for #XmenDaysOfFuturePast World Tour!”)

I’d kill to be living life so fully in my 70s. And using my powers as often for good.

    • marlie

Sir Patrick is one of the few who I do follow, because SIR PATRICK STEWART.

  • frannyprof

How do I love them? Let me count the ways…

  • Mary Elizabeth Poytinger Baume

They give me such joy I have no words. I hope to have a friend like this when I’m 70. I also hope to be as fab.

  • Aidan B

God they are fabulous. This makes me smile so hard.

  • Tanya Wade

Love Sir Ian’s coat – the blue lining is perfect for his eyes. One of the most joy-inducing things I ever saw was when he hosted SNL and sat on the side of the stage as Kylie performed, singing along and doing all the hand dance motions. Bless.

  • Jaeda Laurez

I stan for them both on Twitter and Instagram. I love the purple!

  • The quote “Can I do this or will I look like some sort of gay superhero?” have never been more appropriate. (That was Sir Patrick in “Jeffrey” – not a great movie, but he has all the best lines in it.)

    • demidaemon

Well, it depends on how you define “great.” Was it an Oscar winning masterpiece? NO. But was it fun and rewatchable? I’d say yes.

      • Plus, Mad Men’s Sal! In Cats!

        • demidaemon

You are just making me want to see it again and I’m at work!

          • “Who’s Martha Stewart?”

“She writes picture books about gracious living. Martha says that nothing else matters if you can do a nice dried floral arrangement. I worship her.”

            “And, um, who’s Ann Miller?”

            “Leave this house.”

          • demidaemon

            You are an awful tease!

  • Maya

The comments on this post make me happy 🙂

  • Denise Rambo

    They are SO cute together.

  • RedRaven617

I read a story about how they became friends, pretty late in their careers. Amazing guys, both of them.

  • majorbedhead

*sigh* I just love them. They give me life.

  • Lilithcat

    Old guys rock.

    But Ian needs a shave.

    • kimmeister

Also, a bit of hair product wouldn’t hurt.

  • unbornfawn

They look wonderful and they can tie their damn ties.

  • OffToSeeHim

LOVE THESE TWO!! Mostly because they look like so much fun.

  • LeelaST

Cute as two bugs in a rug…or on a blue carpet. Love them – Queen & Captain.

  • ShaoLinKitten

Have any of the BKs seen Sir Ian and Sir Derek Jacobi in the BBC series Vicious Old Queens? It’s delicious. Love Ian and Patrick unconditionally.

  • Jessie Melcher Brown

They need to be in a remake of the sunshine boys.

  • kategs

I was going to say WHAT??? When did that happen and then I kept reading. I have almost become a Twitterer just to follow them.

  • KT

Haha I absolutely just googled “is patrick stewart gay.” I read your posts!

But can I just say how much I really wish he was gay so that these two could get married and live happily ever after?? Universe, please give us that gift!!!!! They’re still extremely cute together just as friends though, so I guess I’ll take it. I GUESS.

  • Vanja

God bless these two old queens. Wait…what?! I thought Sir Patrick was….ooooh look at the BFF!
Sir Patrick is an honorary queen. Aha!

    • Shawn EH

I don’t know about Queen, but I’d definitely give him the title of Diva if he wants it. Make it so!

  • ashtangajunkie

These two are absolute magic. I love reading all of the BK comments of adoration for them!

  • Dandesun

I love these two so much. I love their theatre talk… anyone see the “Newlywed Game” they played? (It’s online. Google it.) They got very few right but the answers always made the other go ‘Oooohh… yes. yes, that’s good.’ (Or just laugh.) I loved the exchange when Ian asked Patrick if he had ever performed in drag professionally and Patrick said he played in ‘Coriolanus’ in a skirt — “diaphanous, pink silk” — which Ian was just dying over. He asked Patrick who played Coriolanus and when he got the answer he just said ‘Lucky man.’

And the bit where Patrick said he wanted to play Falstaff, Ian was all ‘It’s one of the most difficult roles to play and, quite honestly, I haven’t seen a very good one but I think YOU would be fantastic.’ Then he said he’d invest in that.

That’s friendship, man. I love it.

  • snarkykitten

Has anyone seen the photos where these two are posing with Fassbender & McAvoy? A-MAZE-ING!

  • Jessica O’Connell

LOVE the purple suit. And love these two. I imagine that this will be an extremely popular post today because they are just so freaking adorable.

  • MannahattaMamma

Wow. If you put them, Judi Dench, and Helen Mirren in the same room, the planet would explode from coolness.

    • Coolekat

      Don’t forget the Dowager Countess.

  • colorjunky

Thanks for clarifying Patrick’s sexual orientation. I was surprised you called him a Queen!

  • poorellensmith

Patrick Stewart has been one of my celebrity boyfriends for a good 20 years now, largely due to his annunciation skills. I swear, hearing him read a grocery list could turn me into Jamie Lee Curtis in A Fish Called Wanda…

    • Lisalady161

These pictures make me incredibly happy.

    • Kelly

“annunciation skills” — I’m assuming you did this on purpose. Hilarious. A man of many talents, indeed!

  • Kelly

These two are just begging to be slashed, seriously. Let the fanfiction begin. (Some sort of Trekkie malfunction — ion storm, transporter glitch, whatever — whisks Picard to a planet where novels have become real. There he meets — Gandalf. Go on. You want to write it, you know you do. And while you’re at it, invent some sort of magical razor for Ian/Gandalf so that he doesn’t look quite so much as if he can no longer handle his ADLs.) Love the purple suit.

  • GorgeousThings

I was thinking as I read all the way through – “Isn’t Patrick Stewart married? I mean, to a woman?”
And I would like to be an honorary queen! I’m already a princess.

  • embers618

I love them. They take such obvious delight in each other. The world would be a better place if we all had that kind of friendship.

  • Malia C.

Sir Ian was amazing onstage in “Richard III.” Like, he gave this college student a serious Lady Wood crush that has persisted for years.

    • joything

Hell, he was amazing in the movie. I actually got my Lady Wood for him way back in the film “Scandal,” his first big film role I think, when he played hyper-hetero British MP John Profumo and bonked Joanne Whalley.

      • Malia C.

YES! I remember seeing that in the theatre, though I think at the time I was distracted by the fine-looking guy from “Fine Young Cannibals” who had a small role. Whatever happened to *that* guy?

  • Stewart looks so good I don’t care one whit whether his jacket is buttoned or not. The purple suit/olive green polka dot tie combo is TO DIE. I also love it that they’re out in the rain, actually getting drizzled upon. How refreshing!

  • Snailstsichr

Os it OK if I am a little in love with Patrick’s tie?

  • Fuchsiaforever

They are so cute! Adorable! And I love what they are wearing. 🙂

  • Funkykatt

    I wannabe an honorary queen.

  • Rae

I’d love a night out on the town with these two.

  • marlie

I don’t have enough words for how much I love the two of them together. They have an absolutely beautiful friendship. Plus, I think they’d both be an absolute hoot to hang out with!

Also, they look pretty great. I wouldn’t dare criticize Sir Ian and Sir Patrick.

  • e jerry powell

I never wanted to be that queen, but…
Sir Patrick, you need to hook Sir Ian up with your cosmetic dentist. PRONTO. Particularly if the two of you are going to continue being photographed together. I couldn’t help it, that’s the first place my gaze went, because they are both smiling.

  • I love these two with my whole heart.

  • venusvelvet

That was my visual treat for the day – thanks!

  • ThaliaMenninger

I’ve heard that somebody came up with nickname Serena for Sir Ian after he was knighted. I love that. Sir Patrick isn’t as amenable to a nickname, however. Serpatty doesn’t have the same ring as Serena. Oh well. They’re adorable nonetheless.

  • understateddiva

Ok, they are delightful, but as a bitter kitten, I do have a quibble. Purple and green make me think of the Joker, and I can’t unsee it. I can’t think what else you would wear with a purple suit, though, so I give it a pass!

    • Brent Wolgamott

I knew there was something off-putting about Patrick’s colors but I couldn’t see it until I read your comment, and AHA!!!!! So Joker-ish.

    • I like to think it was on purpose for the premiere of his comic book movie! 🙂

      • Ooh. That would quite damn sassy of him. I’m joining you in this headcannon, as the tumblr set calls it. 😀

  • Mrs. O

The best boys of all time.

  • He was a great queen in Jeffrey.

  • katiessh

ha, that article where they ‘outed’ patrick stewart was hilarious.
Love them to death; they can do no wrong

  • Sir Patrick is my neighbor here in Brooklyn (in the broad sense of neighbor in that we both live in Park Slope) and I bet he would accept the title. I wonder if he was purposely courting a Joker reference with his suit colors since it’s a comic book premiere. I’m just going to assume he was an enjoy him extra much.

    Sir Ian is always adorable.

  • CeeQ

For real. Bromance the way it was meant to be 🙂

  • malarson2

    Adorable. And SO TALENTED.

  • Couldn’t love them more.

  • MissusBee

I never met a straight Brit actor who wasn’t delighted and flattered to be an honorary queen any day of the week.

    Little minxes.

  • Zombiepeep

    Gawd, I love them.

  • Fred Vaughn

    Still smokin’!

  • siriuslover

Hahahaha. I can’t believe people actually don’t read your posts! Then again, maybe I can. They look too adorable and I love the vibrant colors.

  • julnyes

They are just fantastic individually and as BFFs.

  • JynxTheCat

These two are a treasure. Many could learn a lesson from this friendship.

  • cbc-cca

These are classic Batman and The Joker colors. Love these playful queens. LOVE!

  • Julie Lane

As a female, I want a Bromance like theirs.
