Michael Fassbender in Giorgio Armani at the “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” New York Premiere

Posted on May 12, 2014

Yes, the puddling pants hem is making our eyelids twitch, but this still rates an “Attaboy” from us:

Granted, it’s hard to look bad in a Giorgio Armani suit that fits you correctly, but he has a history of  hitting the red carpet looking like he rolled out from under something after passing out ten hours before. This is as close to “impeccable” as we’ve ever seen him get.

And honestly? This might come as a shock, but we’re more bothered by the boring gray tie than we are by the puddling pants hem.

You know, sometimes I don’t find him appealing… but today? Yum. Even if my eyes twitched at the pants hem too.

      • Sarah

Yeah, something about being clean-looking and the way the grey is working for him is upping his appeal factor for me, too.

    • Glam Dixie

There’s something about that tie that is really off with the look, I don’t like it at all. The suit looks great on him, minus the pants hem it’s very well fitted and a nice color. Grading on the Fassbender I just rolled out of bed curve, I give this an A-.

      • gloriana232

I think he’s standing like someone who doesn’t wear nice suits. His hands are kind of lost — he’s just swinging them at his sides from photo to photo — and he’s sort of hunched a little sometimes. Everything mostly fits well, but he doesn’t look that suited (pun!) to it.

Think of someone like Colin Firth, who seems like a man who’s used to good, well-fitted suits … he’s usually standing up straight, shoulders back, proper yet looking totally comfortable.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

I expect no less of Mr. Darcy. Fassbender and some other actors could take lessons from Colin Firth.

    • amanda siegelson

he seems to have looked to jon hamm in the underwear (or lack thereof) dept.

      • asherlev1

        My first thought precisely!

      • Glam Dixie

Maybe it’s my southern upbringing, but that is just so tacky. Put that away for the red carpet.

        • DTLAFamilies

I grew up in the Bronx and I feel the same way. Put some damned underwear on.

          • Glam Dixie

Good, I was afraid I was being a prude.

            • DTLAFamilies

              #prude4lyfe

        • marlie

          Just put that away.

          • smayper

Agree! I hate this kind of stuff no matter the gender. It’s like actors who don’t trust the writing, but MUST SIGNAL THEIR EMOTIONS all the time. The suit is beautiful, and everyone knows you have a penis. Why take away from one by advertising the other?

      • YoungSally

        Agreed —

This must be leftover sausage Monday.

      • http://www.snoskred.org/ Snoskred

If I were a male actor with generous man parts, I would not hesitate to Hamm it up at any opportunity. The publicity Hamm received for it – though he apparently is not a fan of that – cannot go un-noticed.

I suspect this will become a regular thing in our future. THANK YOUR DEITIES NOW. :)

      • Laura Krause Sedor

Right?! It looks like a custom suit, wear the correct undergarments.

        • marlie

We give the ladies a hard enough time for not wearing the appropriate underwear for their dresses and gowns; it’s only fitting that we expect the same from the guystars.

      • kim bunchalastnames

… for which i am suitably <–(see what i did there?) grateful.

      • jilly_d

WHAT IS SEEN CANNOT BE UNSEEN.

      • uprightcitizen

Lightweight boxers will still give that same result (as you’re seeing here). And I would wager that he’s wearing them. If you’re a guy, and you go commando in a suit with fabric as light as this, you’d see even more, and probably risk a wet spot if you went to the bathroom … and a wet spot in a suit is a big deal (unlike jeans). But while it’s nice to know he “dresses to the right,” briefs would certainly be the more genteel choice.

      • holla

        oh my!!

      • Kent Roby

He’s probably wearing boxers, and he clearly dresses to the right.

      • demidaemon

        I don’t mind. ;)

      • berkeleygirl

Fassi’s been going commando for years.

    • TRSTL

Puddling pants, boring tie and a quite obvious lack of supportive underwear make this a bit of a douche canoe moment for me. I am far from a prude about things but when wearing a nice Armani suit with trim cut trousers in a slightly shiny, lighter gray fabric, I would wear underwear that doesn’t reveal all of the details.

    • Danielle

I’m sorry, I didn’t make it any further than his zipper…

    • sherrietee

I find the decorative stitching on the fly a bit distracting – I mean, what is it we’re trying to do drawing attention to the package like that? Is that trying too hard or am I reading too much into it?

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Such gifts! It’s not even Sausage Friday!

    • lunchcoma

You’re feeling more generous than I am. Sure, for once he doesn’t look like he went on a bender last night, had sex in the bar bathroom, slept in the gutter, and woke up half an hour ago. This is still just okay.

      • Anna

I’m with you, nice enough suit but he’s still managing to look rumpled in it (and not in a good way).

      • Jessica Freeman

        Agreed. I was all “meh”.

      • alyce1213

To me, he still looks like he just had sex in the bathroom – and left his knickers. Meh.

        • Anna

His look is usually at least one of the criteria that @lunchcoma:disqus described, if not all of the above. In other words, Fassbender’s version of “Of Course.”

    • @Biting Panda

Things I now know about Mr. Fassbender:

His eyes are delightfully crinkly when he smiles.
      He can ROCK an Armani.
      He dresses to the right.

      • Kent Roby

There’s certainly no Shame…in his game.

      • Meg0GayGuys6

Seconds after noticing your third point, I noticed and LOVED your first. Can’t get enough of those wrinkles. I never understood why people get injections to rid themselves of those.

    • gloriana232

Tie looks weird. You can see it’s not tied right — loose and not brought up to his collar. His sleeve cuffs are missing — jacket sleeves too long. Doesn’t he have anyone standing by with a colourful pocket square to tuck in his breast pocket before he rolls out of his car? Come on.

      • MaggieMae

You said it! He messed up all those little details that pull together a look.

      • Janet B

        Details are everything

    • Froggae

I like the stitching detail although it drew my eyes right to his crotch. To be fair, that probably would have happened even without the stitching.

    • SugarSnap108

It makes me sad that the standard for men is to not look like you passed out last night and were recently revived.

Other things that make me sad: That tie.

      • MaggieMae

Other things that make me sad: Those wrinkles on the suit.

    • msdamselfly

He looks really darling. Bright eyes and smile and attractive grooming of the hair on head and face

    • Mary Lauer

I guess I am a prude, but I just don’t understand not wearing underwear when you are all dressed up at a function.

      • shirab

And I can’t help but wonder, are these loaner suits, as when the ladystars have loaner dresses? Because gross.

      • Nancer

I didn’t notice anything until I read your comments, then I had to scroll back up and look. Because RESEARCH. And now I can’t un-see it! I think that if he IS wearing underwear, it’s failing to do its job…

        • demidaemon

He’s most likely wearing boxers or some other sort of underwear that doesn’t support the undercarriage, instead of properly designed supportive boxer briefs or briefs (as mentioned above). Just like the ladies need the bras, the mens need the properly supportive underwear.

          • Nancer

Exactly! The right undergarments make all the difference in fit and final look.

            • demidaemon

It took me about fifteen years to learn this, but I am so glad that I finally did.

        • Mary Lauer

I ALWAYS look, so I guess I am a prurient prude?!

          • Nancer

Prurient prude is now my favorite phrase… :]

    • marlie

All of this is underwhelming. I don’t like the shininess of the suit, it’s a little rumpled, and the dude in it is on my celebrity hate list.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Fortunately several other boys put on nice suits for this event, so there may be something more to our taste… Patrick Stewart with a side dish of Hugh Jackman, perhaps?

        • alyce1213

          Fingers crossed.

        • marlie

I’ll be happy if I see Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan together, no matter what they’re wearing. They are the most adorable duo.

        • lunchcoma

From the pictures I’ve seen, some of the other gentlemen were better-fitted, but no one knocked it out of the park. Ellen Page had the best suit by far.

      • alyce1213

There’s something about him that makes my skin crawl.

        • marlie

Maybe the fact that he’s an abusive asshole (allegedly)?

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Those eyes AND an Armani suit-I’m fanning myself, and might just have to take to my fainting couch. Now, Michael, let’s get those pants hemmed properly.

    • http://www.avclub.com/users/genevieve-koski,4300/ Genevieve Koski

I kept reading “puddling pants” as “pudding pants,” which is my new favorite description. Ol’ Puddin’ Pants Fassbender over here.

    • MilaXX

Not a Fassy fan, but he, Hugh Jackman & James McAvoy were on Graham Norton this weekend. Graham had some slashy fan art that he showed. I had not idea people shipped Fassbender & McAvoy, but it was nice to see them being good sports about it.

      • Rae

They were all great. McAvoy seems like good fun.

      • demidaemon

To be fair, I think he said, in an interview for the prequel to this film, that he basically played Magneto as if he and Charles Xavier were in a romantic relationship. And it worked like gangbusters, if these are the results.

    • Emily Giovanni

Are his eyebrows always like that? Or are they specially styled for a villain role? Either way I love them.

    • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

I will always have problems with what he wears. Namely, that he wears clothes at all.

    • Lower L

What’s going on with his eyebrows in the 4th photo? I’m now going to have to look at previous photos to see whether his brows have always been shaped that way, or if this is something new.

    • gitchygitchymama

nice look……………… for a bank manager.

    • Tina Power

that’s some serious stitching going on there

    • Janet B

Beautiful suit, but the tie and the way it’s tied is ruining the look.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

Good, because I’m bothered enough by the boring gray tie for all three of us.

    • Ginmaru

I can understand why the sleeves are wrinkled near the elbows but what would make a sleeve wrinkle like that near the arm pits? And the suit is gorgeous but the tie is sad. Perhaps something with blue to brighten his eyes?

    • Bad Idea Jeans

I keep reading that as PUDDING PANTS. I wouldn’t mind seeing him in pudding pants. *sigh*

    • unbornfawn

On a whole he looks good. Can I get a job adjusting ties for the gentlemen just before they go on the red carpet to be photographed? It is becoming such a pet peeve for me. Instead of twitching I can put my OCD to good use.

    • majorbedhead

That top stitching, and the no-underwear thing, is giving this whole look a very sleazy 70s nightclub creep look to me.

    • http://www.chifleschips.com Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

Nope…the tie got me too. It’s just boring.

    • decormaven

Attaboy! Nice look, even with the puddling pants hem.

    • Mrs. C

      Fix that knot, please.

    • Chuck Barthelme

Same on the tie! Way to ruin a great suit by putting a gray tie with it. Would it kill him to use some color? NO! But I agree, at least this look is red carpet appropriate.

    • luke

      Is he wearing any underwear?

      • missinmass

        silk boxers.

    • thesevenendless

Fassbender’s always going to be a weak spot for me – he’s the first celebrity that made me go “Hot DAMN, that man is is FIIIIIIINE!” I know he’s a kind of dubious and a douche in real life, but he got me through a tough third year of undergrad, and X-Men: First Class, along with Indiewire’s The Playlist, is what inspired me to become more interested in film – I’m currently in the middle of a Masters in Film Studies. I just hope I don’t come off like one of those…..devoted fans who still like Tom Cruise or Mel Gibson despite their craziness.

    • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

For those commenting on the way the tie is tied, that’s the look now on the red carpet. Blame the stylists : ) Personally, I think it looks “unfinished” and ruins this type of look (formal/suit). I think it works when it’s a more casual look; like just a vest, sleeves rolled up, paired with dark jeans, going for more like a “rebel” look. L

    • Shawn EH

I like the tie just from a comfort standpoint, though I agree the color is a
missed opportunity. Love that he’s giving Hamm a run in the
      boxers/w/suit approach.

    • NeenaJ

I first read that as “pudding pants.” I couldn’t figure it out. Does it look like he has pudding in his pants? Is that gay-uncle-code? What would Bill Cosby say? After reading a comment, I figured out that I missed the “L”. I might like my version better. ;)

      • Fuchsiaforever

        Same here!

    • Michele

I like the stitching detail on his suit, and would welcome the opportunity to examine it up close. :-)

    • SylviaFowler

I am bothered by nothing in these photos. Give him to me!

    • ashtangajunkie

I don’t like him. I have no reason for my feelings. He looks sloppy and puddly and his tie is boring.

    • suzinrva

It appears Mr. Fassbender’s Armani tailor did not master the “dressing right” measure of the inseam.

    • demidaemon

Everything is working like gangbusters here except for the hem. He looks extraordinarily sexy. And I am so glad he isn’t wearing a knit tie.

    • ShaoLinKitten

Those pants leave nothing to the imagiation

    • Brittney P

      Good job Michael!

TLo, y’all should definitely feature some more James McAvoy! He’s a handsome guy that typically dresses pretty well and he’s on the same X-Men poledance as the rest of these guys!

    • ladybane

still not wearing underwear, I see.

      • FibonacciSequins

Is that a thing now, or is it just him and Jon Hamm?

    • Ray

He’s wearing boxers. :) Now, what’s this “hem” thing you keep talking about?

    • LadyVimes

That jacket and vest combination. Woof.

    • Mr. J.

Didn’t made it to the puddling pants as I stopped abruptly at the d–k-o-rama….why are men doing this? It’s not attractive.

Also, I’m interested in the comments about his creepiness….what IS it about him? He’s attractive yet offputting….can’t figure it out.

    • KT

All I saw was “pudding pants” which is exactly what is happening with all the ladies and gays who are viewing these pictures, because…. BULGE!!!

    • malarson2

I’m pretty sure I could draw a very accurate picture of his member just by seeing these pics.

    • MyFavoriteColorIsGlitter

This man is sexy as FUCK. That is all.

    • icm

How could another starboy rate an “attaboy” comment when his boring gray tie is knotted about an inch from the top of his collar ,the top button is showing for gods sake.Nitpicking I know but the inability to pull that knot up is becoming the sloppy ,lazy norm on red carpets . Am I wrong!

    • Man Dala

He can Fass-bend me, that’s for sure.

    • Fuchsiaforever

He gets an “Attabulge” from me!

    • eruannalle

i think the hem is bothering me EVEN MORE exactly because the rest of it does fit him well. it’s driving me nuts.

    • CatherineRhodes

He gets an attaboy for once again forgetting to wear underwear.

      • Brent Wolgamott

^^THIS!!!!!!! I can’t believe TLo said nothing about that. ;-)

    • DeTrop

Saw MF together with James McAvoy and Hugh Jackman on the Graham Norton Show saturday night. That was a lot of eye candy for one night and for one lady to deal with.;)

    • macwell

      I’m sorry, but….IS THAT A PROMINENT IMPRINT I CAN’T UNSEE?!
