Blake Lively Style Double Shot

Posted on May 08, 2014

Springtime coat porn, darlings!

We never credited her with having much in the way of style instincts, but apparently, girl can pick out a coat when she has to.

She just had to go and ruin it with those fucking shoes, didn’t she? A shame, because this coat elicited an “Oooooooooh!” from the two of us. It’s gorgeous. The shoes are hideous and cheapen the whole look. Black patent pumps would’ve turned this into quite a stunner. As it is, it’s a “What a great coat! What the hell’s wrong with her feet?”

Maybe she’s better off keeping things as simple as possible:

But let’s face it: it’d be tough to get this one wrong. What a fabulous look. Should’ve worn boots, though.

  • @Biting Panda

Such determination, this one. Nice to see a return of the Legslies, though. (The coats are to die. Obviously.)

    • H2olovngrl

Probably didn’t want to wear boots so as not to obscure said Legslies!

  • lexilexi

    Coat #1 – Amazing
Shoes #1 – Ugly… and those heels… walking in the city w/ those sidewalk cracks…
    Coat #2 – I covet… tho hardly a ground-breaking design… it’s the fabric…
All the rest – good enough.

    Skinny legs rule.

    • girlsaturday

Eh, you learn to get used to sidewalk cracks – spend enough time living in cities with significant cobblestone areas and sidewalk cracks are suddenly a lot less threatening.

      • marlie

Also, she’s probably walking from the door to a car, so it’s not like she has that much sidewalk to negotiate anyway. But yeah, you do get used to it.

      • somebody blonde

So true. After wearing heels in Spain, wearing them in the US doesn’t even register as an issue.

        • demidaemon

When I was in Berlin, a friend of mine broke her foot due to the combination of walking all day then walking in heels on cobblestones. Let’s just say that the rest of the trip and the flight home was not fun and involved blood thinners introduced via hypodermic needles.

          • Youch! That sounds miserable.

          • demidaemon

It was! Add to the fact that she had to take a separate plane from the rest of us because she replaced someone on the itinerary at the last minute and the fact that it happened about four days into a two week trip and you have miserable personified. I think some people did try to talk her out of the heels (and they just weren’t any heels; they were like six inch heels); it’s too bad she didn’t take their advice.

        • fursa_saida

Once I had run down a cobbled street in Oxford wearing high-heeled MULES, of all things, I knew a simple sidewalk would never get to my level.

    • Sarah

      Not skinny legs rule also.

      • kimmeister

Not skinny legs kick harder. 🙂

  • lunchcoma

Girl, those are not your coats. Box them up and send them to me, please! I promise to pair them with appropriate shoes.

  • Glam Dixie

Hate those shoes, but they are a bit mesmerizing. I found myself staring at them for an abnormally long time. No to boots in the spring time.

    • Sarah

Hallucinogenic Hot Dog Buns? Psychotropic Taco Shells?

      • Pennymac

Psychotropic Taco Shells for the win!

        • Sarah

          Disco Canoes! Fantastical Foot Gondolas!

    • Anna

“If I stare long enough, maybe I’ll understand how someone could design something so wrong.”

    • mlurve

I had a pair that looked exactly like those, but they were all red. They were part of my costume when I was a sexy lobster for Halloween in college.

  • sienna elm

Official colour name for those first shoes should be “Unicorn Rainbow Glitter Throw-up”

    • Audrey Lee

Which would make for an AWESOME nail polish color.

      • MilaXX

I’m sure OPI already makes it.

        • That’s my dream job in my next life: working for OPI and making up the names of the polish colors. Either that, or being a roving ambassador for a grand name in jewelry, like Graff or Harry Winston, where they pay me to walk around dripping in gems. Either one would be fine, thanks.

      • Cyd Butler

Ha! I was having my nails done the other day and there was a bottle of polish on the desk next to me that I picked up and said “looks like unicorn vomit.” It looked EXACTLY like those shoes! Sadly, it wasn’t OPI…..

    • demidaemon

I feel like all unicorn excrement should be used as an eternal youth regimen.

  • @Biting Panda

Grrrrr. So strong is the coat porn, the Frozen braid slipped by, unnoticed. That and the tired, studded, pumps prove she’s got the instincts but not the creativity.

    • Sarah

I saw it. Blargh. Perhaps because I don’t feel the blue coat.

    • Alloy Jane

Hah, I didn’t realize she had a braid. I just thought it was Tangled.

  • butterflysunita

Those two coats are fabulous, especially the Valentino.

    • Kitten Mittons

I’m pretty envious right now. They are so lovely.

    • Rhonda Shore

Whatever she wears, however she’s styled, she’s like an egg without salt.

      • butterflysunita

I know. Those lovely coats are wasted on her.

  • Audrey Lee

Maybe this make me queen Tacky of Tacky-stan but I LOVE her shoes with the first coat. 🙁

    • GillianHolroyd

Oh me too. Maybe not with the coat but I can’t take my eyes off them.

    • imspinningaround

Not just you. I like them too. Black pumps would have been a total snooze.

      • I so agree. Black pumps would have been too simple.

    • Danielle

I’ll join you. We might be able to get a group rate on getting our heads checked.

    • asherlev1

      OMG ME TOO. /high fives/

    • Molly

The shoes are the epitome of “happy” to me. They may be tacky to some, but I think they’re fabulous! (Maybe not with the coat, although even that doesn’t bug me much).

      • Anna Vasquez

Clap along, if you feel that you need a really sparkly shoe!
Clap along, if you feel that Tackiness is the Truth!

    • Anna Vasquez

Yeah. Me too. Please don’t kick me out of the Cool Kids Club!

      • KCF

small, happy “yay”. I thought I was alone.

    • sweetestsith

I also love the shoes, I understand on some level that they are not very stylish or sophisticated with that coat, but my inner six-year-old is screaming “OMG SHE IS A BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLY. !@$% A BUTTERFLY!!!>!>!>! %$!@%”. I can’t tell my inner child no.

(Ok, less swearing. I was a sheltered child.)

    • ampg

I’ll be one of your loyal subjects, because I love them too.

  • MilaXX

Love both looks. Hate the shoes in the first look. Mind you I think there is a time and place for those shoes and I get that she was trying to pick up the colors in the coat, but they clash horribly. Now I’m wondering what would go with those shoes. Skinny jeans?

    • zenobar

Jaeger bombs and desperation, I’m thinking.

    • fursa_saida

Definitely jeans. The cut of the opening is making it look like her legs just…flow into her feet with no ankles. Skinny jeans would help get rid of that problem.

  • hughman

She looks like the Corporate Attorney for Jem and the Holograms.

    • Anna

Boobs, Legsly & Associates LLP: Truly Outrageous Solicitors.

      • AthenaJ

I want to like this about eight million times!

    • Angela_the_Librarian

As their attorney she should really start pressuring the DA to get charges pressed against Eric Raymond and the Misfits. They could all be easily be charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, grand theft, arson..the list keeps going!

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Or at least get a restraining order.

    • AthenaJ

Of course that would be her day job… then by night she touches her sparkly earrings and turns into a rock star!

  • Those first shoes are dragtastic.

  • Beardslee

Ouch, those heels in the first shot! And she appears to be taking normal strides. Oh well, she’d better enjoy her knees and feet while she can.
    That second coat….

  • Constant Reader

The shoes in the first photo look like they belong with a superhero costume. I can’t decide if that makes me love them or hate them. I’m so torn!

  • MannahattaMamma

I liked #2 well enough until I realized that her fingernail polish matched the coat. To which I say “get a life.”

  • For a Lively, her face sure is set to “Lifeless”.

    • CakesOnAPlane

I swear to God, her only “acting” move is pursing her lips. Which apparently is also her “pap-shot” move. I wonder if she and her Publicist discussed anything over lunch other than, I called all those paps, and we’re about to publicize the $#*t out of this lunch!

      • This is probably so close to the truth that it’s funny, causes an awkward silence, and then just becomes even funnier!

  • Capt. Renault

Those first shoes — did she forget to zip them up?

  • I don’t like the shoes in the first shots, but aren’t they supposedly going with the outfit beneath the coat, not necessarily the coat? Then again, I am ascribing human, weather-related logic to someone for whom “human” and “logic” don’t apply.

  • Jessica Freeman

My 5 year old self loves the shoes from the first look. Both coats are gorgeous.

  • The shoes in the first example are impractical, granted, but I still think they work. It’s not like she’s going to be walking far in them. The coat is spectacular.
In the second example, I like the shoes better than the coat. OTOH, I do not like the leather dress, at all. The bib looks like Borg technology.

  • kimmeister

I like her double-breasted Valentino even more than the model’s single-breasted version!

The Gucci is suede, right? I’m sure it looked awesome in person, but I’m starting to think that light colored suede just doesn’t photograph well.

    • Kayceed

That second coat looks so ’70s faux-suede to me. Which is partly why I love it…

  • Qitkat

I would rarely desire anything worn by Blake, but she had better keep her eyes on guard when she goes around the next corner.
In either coat. I will pounce like the Bitter Kitten I am.

  • decormaven

That first coat- be still, my heart. Gorgeous, even with the twinkle pumps.

  • Mothra

Can’t say I like the shoes in the first look–they match the coat too much.

    • Malia C.

Yeah, I would have paired those with a very basic, neutral coat. They’re fun heels but not in a head-to-toe pile-on of multi-color.

      • Mothra

And you know what else? That is how you style a messy hair.

  • Fuchsiaforever

Both coats are amazing, specially the Valentino!

But the Louboutin booties scream “Showgirls” and Las Vegas. SO freakin’ tacky!

  • clatie

well, she clearly doesn’t walk anywhere. ouchie.

  • Janet B

The leather dress and coat look a bit heavy for spring.

Those shoes would’ve looked really great on my Barbie doll.

  • Kiki Reinecke

Apart from the coats, she looks stressed and unhappy.

  • cowper

“Miss Fast” has got to be the least appropriate name. How can you go anywhere fast in those?

  • marlie

Both coats are gorgeous. The shoes in the first looks are tacky as hell, but I like the rest of the second look.

  • With the second one, it looks like she’s recently been wearing an ankle brace. Why would you wear heels of any real height after taking an ankle brace off?

  • DesertDweller79

Oh, the first coat is stunning! Oh my God, absolutely beautiful. Shoes are horrible. But, I barely noticed them.

Second coat is beautiful! I so very much want to touch it.

  • Emily Smith

I just can’t see her as a real person. Like she is just Serena Van der Woodsen to me no matter what she does. I don’t think I can see anyone from that show as anyone other than their character.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

And something about her expression in these photos makes me think she is starting to think the same thing. Which is kind of sad.

      • Emily Smith

Yes, the facial expression is a very Serena-ish “don’t look at me” smirk. I’m thinking that character must not have been much of a stretch for her.

  • Alloy Jane

I love a good pair of ridiculous heels. I have a pair that are tigers. But that level tacky sparkle on that hideous shape is too My Little Pony for my tastes. The first coat is fab, the blue coat looks like an aging latex balloon.

  • somebody blonde

The shoes in the first one I think would’ve been fine if they weren’t slit up the middle.

  • demidaemon

Whenever she tries to actively style something, it always goes to Wrongtown (see first look). That is why the second look is a rare example of a good look from her–she didn’t try to do anything to it.

  • ashtangajunkie

Man, do I wish someone else was wearing that Valentino coat. Someone who would have worn the right shoes…

    (like me)

  • FibonacciSequins

I like the cut of the Valentino coat, but the fabric reminds me too much of the foil paper my grandma used to wrap Christmas presents. The shoes look like something a Munchkin in Oz would wear.

The Gucci coat’s a winner – the dress too.

  • unbornfawn

Adore the blue coat! She looks better than the model.

  • ShaoLinKitten

I think Blake thought the shoes somehow “matched” the butterfly coat. I didn’t even need to scroll down to imagine what TLo would say about them. Definitely scrolldown fug.

  • elfbrick

coat one should go to lucy liu, man.

  • FridaStaire

#1 This could have been a personal best in a sci-fi disco fabulous air hostess way, if only she’d done a tight bun and heavy eyeliner! And maybe a tiny neck scarf?

  • Annistella

It is interesting that she is associated with Chanel. I think she is much more ‘Gucci’ (photo above is submitted as evidence). Tom Ford for Gucci was the highlight of the brand’s history to me – he got that it must be beautifully made and a bit flashy, a bit trashy and a little bit sexy. I think Blake veers naturally into this territory much more often than she does Chanel stylings.

    • the_valkyrie

Isn’t she a spokesperson for Gucci now? I thought the Chanel thing didn’t pan out.

      • Annistella

so she is! thank you. A reliable source (the internet) tells me that Blake’s ‘pretty mall girl’ schtick did not translate well to campaign pictures and Karl was not impressed. Her contract was not renewed, which, I believe is a fashion world ‘conscious uncoupling’.

  • LadyVimes

Coat porn! Love both of them.

  • So much better than her usual beige everything.

  • GeoDiva

That first coat is amazing!!! I must have.

  • EmilyMullasWilson

Both looks read to me as warm-and-cozy top half, freezing-cold bottom half. Tights? Jeans? Boots?

  • Leah Elzinga

If unicorns were shoes. The heels sealed the deal for me.

  • snarkykitten

Where IS she? It was like 90 today. I can’t imagine wearing a coat AND long sleeves
