Sofia Vergara in Michael Kors on “Good Morning America”

Posted on April 22, 2014

We’ve given up on trying to recommend a different silhouette for her. If it’s not skin-tight, she passes out or something. Allegedly. We don’t know, we’re making stuff up. The point is, she works a body-con silhouette like it’s about to be outlawed and there’s no point in expecting otherwise from her. The trick is to make sure she expresses that silhouette in stylish and chic ways.

Nailed it:

Love the look. We love it more with the coat, but it makes a perfectly fine interview dress. Not every lady could sit down in this, but she’s one of them, so she might as well show that off. The color looks great on her. And just to prove once again that we don’t hate nude shoes per se (we just hate how they became the red carpet default shoe), this is the perfect look for deploying them. Attagirl.

I wish she’d change up the hair. It’s becoming SJP circa 1998 – present.

      • Melissa Brogan

Yep. I’m kinda over her hair. But otherwise I think she looks great.

        • Paigealicious

Oh, yeah, that dress looks fabulous!

      • DTLAFamilies

All she’d need to do to freshen things up is cut off 6 inches.

    • Danielle

I don’t know if those flesh colored panels are actual cut outs or just another color of fabric but I’m living for them on her.

      • Kate Andrews

It’s fabric — the mic is attached to the neckline. I would not be OK with real cutouts on morning TV. Tacky!

        • Sarah

That’s good. I was about to get all het up about illusion netting. Phew.

          • http://www.chifleschips.com Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

All het up..there’s an expression not heard in ages.

            • Sarah

You can thank my southern upbringing. That’s the Confederacy talkin’, right there.

            • http://www.chifleschips.com Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

Yes ma’am; that’s how I recognized it. I’m a fellow Southerner. Brought up in Florida by the last of the Southern Belles and her sisters from North Carolina. Mama is now 92, so you can imagine. One of my late Aunties had to have been the inspiration for Florence King’s ‘Dear Old Thing’ in ‘Southern Ladies and Gentlemen.’ If you’ve not read that book, please, stop now and go get it. Update your will, and don’t blame me if you fall off the porch dying from laughter. You’ll recognize each person and wonder if Florence has been peeping in your windows or attending your family reunions for inspiration.

      • ballerinawithagun

Love those fabric panels, very sexy, she looks fabulous!

    • HomeOfficeGirl

She’s really got it all going on doesn’t she? The hair! The eyes! The smile! The bod! She looks amazing.

      • Kayceed

The posture! Makes my heart sing.

        • Vee

That’s the Spanx talking for that posture there.

          • Grumpy Girl

Yes, but at least she’s recognizing the need for that speech and preparing herself accordingly.

            • Vee

Wait, you lost me. The need for what speech?

    • sugarkane105

I love a good turquoise and tan combo – and she has the perfect coloring for it. She looks effortless and chic.

    • Kbear

That dress looks better on Sofia than on the model. Yow!

      • Kitten Mittons

        That’s the absolute truth.

    • Anplica Fiore

Love this look which surprises me since I don’t like the cutout look. Well done on this one Duchess! Accessorizing is also perfect – I want those bracelets!

      • ballerinawithagun

        They aren’t cut-outs.

        • Anplica Fiore

          cutout look. :)

          • ballerinawithagun

            Sorry!

    • @Biting Panda

Somethings will not be denied, and her being hit you over the head sexy, is one of them. She’s a stunner and she has filled the void that Salma Hayek left, when she married that billionaire and lost her flair.

      • barbarienne

I don’t know if Ms. Vergara usually pulls off “sexy with class,” but she’s doing it here.

      • alyce1213

Funny what a few billion will do to you.

    • barbarienne

I like how the brown panels in the dress don’t match her skin, but do match her coat. That’s the right way to do “matchy.”

      • Wendi126

This is an interesting point. Her panels seem much darker than the models as are their respective skin tones. Was this changed for Sofia? I don’t recall the color of the other ones we’ve seen recently on other women. Input?

    • Vegas Girl

It looks great on her. BUT – This is the 3rd time I’ve seen this dress in the last two weeks, so I am bored with it and ready for something else.

      • MilaXX

I was going to say the same thing. It’s starting to get as popular as the bird dress was a while back.

        • Vegas Girl

Michael Kors must be GIVING it away. And the first time I saw it was on the awful How I Met Your Mother finale. So, I am already programmed to hate it! LOL.

          • Michele Morningstar

THAT’S where I saw it! Thank you!

        • mjude

I haven’t had a chance to comment in like forevah. I saw this dress & yes I will admit it, on a “real housewife by bravo”

      • holla

I think that dress looks good pretty much on everyone. Yes, MK is every where now.

    • Nikko Viquiera

How does she have that flat stomach when sitting down?Is she human? I’m wearing a balloony shirt and i have a wheel of fat pressing out. haha. Great color on her!

      • Anna

Right? And this woman has a 22-year-old son!

        • KinoEye

No kidding. I saw some dumb article on the Huffington Post (I think) where it was talking about OMG Sophia Vergara was so hot when she was younger! And it had a couple of pictures of her modeling. My first thought was, “DUH.” My second thought, on reading quotes from Sophia about her younger years, was that she is a very cool and tough lady. Kudos to her for working as a single mom and establishing her career the way she has.

          • Anna

Yes, bless her and her incredible genes! She’s had a very interesting life, and totally agree on her being a very cool and tough lady. I have a lot of respect for her.

          • cocohall

She also has survived cancer. I saw her interviewed (I think it was on Katie Couric) and you just had the sense of a person who knows that life can go pear-shaped at any moment, and she was going to gratefully take advantage of any opportunity she could. She was very realistic about her looks and body. I was very impressed by her.

        • Nikko Viquiera

She has a 22 year old son?? Let me just cry in a corner.

        • TAGinMO

          WHAT?!

          • Anna

Yup, she married/had a baby when she was young (18 or 19, I think).

      • Gatto Nero

        Industrial-strength shapewear.

      • DebbieLovesShoes

“Wheel of fat” …. haha. TY for reminding me I’m not the only one with it! TY!

    • teensmom99

Here is the difference between of course and knowing your style. She wears sea-foamy things at other times too and it all looks great. And so happy that the uncles pointed out that this is a well-deployed nude shoe.

    • Donna Tabor

Someone is wearing this same dress on the cover of a current magazine. I saw it at Barnes & Noble yesterday, but can’t think who it is.

    • Chrisanthe Kostalas Green

I have to say, being a curvy girl of the plus size variety, no matter what I do, most things come across as Body Con on me because I have a butt and boobs. The only way I don’t pull off body con is if the outfit is a size too big and therefore baggy. So I have to say I dont think its anything intentional…when you have curves, its hard to wear most things that are cut for straight size people.

      • ballerinawithagun

I’m 5’2″ size 2-4 hourglass shape and I’ve tried some of the unusual princess seamed dresses out there right now. Hilarious looking on me! Nothing but curves, but if I go baggy, I just look fat, especially in photos.

      • Shannon

        Amen.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

Agreed on the nude shoe. Whoever keeps insisting that the nude patent leather platform stiletto needs to happen should be tried and convicted of terrible taste.

    • decormaven

Nailed it. She’s working it, top to toe.

    • marlie

You know, she nailed it in this dress AND with the shoes. It also helps that the shoes aren’t boring silly-putty platform pumps or Minnie Mouse shoes. She looks pretty fabulous. But – agree with the kittens who said that a different hairstyle was definitely called for.

    • marlie

Can I add… that coat is cute too, and still weather appropriate for chilly spring mornings.

    • B_C_J

This woman KNOWS the formula that works for her & she works it to perfection. Yes, we have seen this before but the truth is that she mesmerizes every time. She is a gorgeous woman with a jaw dropping figure. However, to her credit, despite all her physical gifts she always is smiling. That seals the deal.

      • ballerinawithagun

Her comedic timing is perfection; my husband knows she is attractive but loves how funny and smiling she is!

      • alyce1213

She’s really funny too, a beautiful sexy clown.

      • makeityourself

And those veneers were worth every penny!

    • Sophie

Very nice coat. I’m more dubious about the false slashes on the front of the dress.

    • NMMagpie

      A personal best, IMO.

    • FibonacciSequins

I love everything about this look. And if I had her figure I’d show it off too.

      Nailed.It.

    • lamamu

I enjoy stars who enjoy being stars. She’s positively glowing. The hair needs an update though.

    • alyce1213

I like the dress (but not the slashes), and the shoes too — they’re embossed leather (?) and not boring. I love the Max Mara coat.

    • GillianHolroyd

I have to say that I do not like the coat at all with this outfit. It looks like a car coat. Shapeless. But the rest of her is absolutely stunning.

    • msdamselfly

Nice look with and without the coat

    • MzzPants

I still don’t know who the hell she is, but her curves are bringing that dress to life.

    • Tee

      Must. Have. Shoes.

    • quiltrx

Those brown cutouts are not cool. But otherwise she’s making that dress sing.

    • Laura Abrahamsen

Sally Fields is wearing this exact dress on the cover of this month’s Ladies Home Journal. Does Sofia know?

    • Salasalu

I can’t with the cocker spaniel hair (thank you for perfectly coining that phrase, TLo)
Sofia – take a good hard look at Lindsay. If you lean more toward aviators than a cute haircut, you in trouble girl.

    • elemspbee

pretty. that color is lovely and –gasp–season appropriate. so spring.

    • BluesD

The dress color really pops against her brown coat and hair. Great choice.

    • Bethany Mavronicles

      Robin Scherbatsky, you’ve been served.

    • MannahattaMamma

I want to badly to pull her hair back into a smooth ponytail.

    • bringbackbeatles

She looks amazing in my favorite color. Turquoise and tan are not the first colors I’d think of together, but they look great. I want that coat so bad too! Like what she’s wearing or not, Sofia always glows and radiates happiness.

    • Aurumgirl

I love the colours of the outfit, I love the dress and I love the coat. I am by no means slender, and I know this design would look great even on someone my size–it’s classic and cut to be flattering. If she falls back on the body conscious clothing as her expected look, then maybe she’s playing to her strengths and doing what she knows will work for her. This look isn’t what I would call her “typical” one, but it is chic and flattering. I wish more celebs would wear elegant clothing like this.

    • Orange Girl

Wow. Not many other actors have poise like her.

    • Lilithcat

These nude shoes are better than most because they have a texture to them.

      • AnneElliot

YES!!! They’re not silly putty patent leather. Thank God.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

Stunning. And I love her for sticking to a look and going all out. She reminds me so much of Sophia Loren. Only with better comic timing.

    • Valdri8

Gayle King wore the same dress yesterday on the CBS morning program, but it was not quite as successful.

    • http://www.bertkeeter.com Bert Keeter

That coat does not go with that dress. Both are nice but not together!

    • demidaemon

I hate the side cutouts–so unnecessary. That said, it’s a quibble in an otherwise good look.

    • Kane

Maybe if those cappucino-tan inserts were a different color–yellow?–instead of an exact CoverGirl TruBlend match with her skin, she wouldn’t look like her dress is splitting along the seams.

Seriously. Squint just a smidge. It looks like she squeezed into a too-small dress and then overate.
