Pairs Division: Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones at the 2014 Chaplin Award Gala

Posted on April 29, 2014

We’re trying to feature some well-dressed stars today because we fear some of you came out of yesterday’s lineup of awkward celebrity fashion a little emotionally scarred.

Admit it. If they weren’t famous, they’d still turn your head as they walked by, wouldn’t they?

Y’know, Michael Douglas never really gets any credit for his style. It’s not that he pushes the envelope or makes choices that demonstrate his high taste level and innate chicness. Then again, how many men accomplish that? But we can’t recall ever seeing pictures of him at an event where he wasn’t dressed for the occasion and putting the effort in. Sure, he dresses like a hedge fund manager, but it suits him and besides, he’s gonna be 70 this year. It’s appropriate.

Love her dress.

  • sienna elm

She’s stunning – love the cut of her skirt.

    • ballerinawithagun

I must find the fabric in that skirt!!! She looks the best that she has looked in a long time.

      • Tracy_Flick

She really does, her face looks more natural and that dress is extremely flattering.

    • Darren Nesbitt

That dress was made for walkin’, kickin’, steppin’, swayin’ everything.

      • Wink

“Sashay, Shantay! Shantay! Shantay! Shantay!” (Thanks, RuPaul!)

    • twocee

I agree. One of those outfits featured on TLo that I would buy and wear on a regular basis.

  • Dogue

    Handsome couple.

  • Didn’t they break up?

She was dressing a bit mature for a long time, but now she’s grown into it and looks amazing.

    • Courtenay P

they separated but they’re back together now.

  • Karen Belgrad

That is one fabulously moving skirt!

So did they decide to un-uncouple?

    • Janet B

      Consciously re-coupling?

    • Sobaika

      Consciously 😉

  • lecoffeeaddict

    he is so dapper.

I love the skirt, although I feel like the waist should fall a little lower?

  • Danielle

Oh my God, I forgot they were still together.

    • Darcy H

I never knew that they were?

    • Kim Elmore

IKR? I thought they were separated/divorcing?!

  • @Biting Panda

I can’t see her and not think of both, her role in America’s Sweethearts, and the lessons of #BeMeOrDoMe.

Yes they are stunning, but my cynical eyes no longer see the illusion.

    • Jessica Freeman

I’ve always thought she was just playing herself in that movie, for sure.

  • MilaXX

I find him a bit on the douche-y side, but I can admit he does indeed always put in the effort. LOVE her look, but I’m concerned a face looks slightly on the puffy from filler side.

    • Sartorial_She

He has SCCHN (squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck), which can be terribly disfiguring depending on its clinical course. He most likely has undergone local radiation, which can cause chronic inflammation and other sequelae. I’m willing to bet that he’s not injecting a lot of fillers these days.

      • SugarSnap108

I think Mila was referring to CZJ. (Correct me if I’m wrong!) Her face does look different to me, somehow. J’adore that dress.

      • MilaXX

I didn’t say he was. I was referring to Catherine. Neither here nor there. They are both dressed very nicely.

        • Sartorial_She

          Doh! Sorry ’bout that.

  • Jessica Freeman

I really love that skirt, which I think it is…not a dress? It’s hard to tell, but she looks striking.

    • Little_Olive

I kinda hope it’s not a dress, even though that would excuse the high waist. It just looks a bit silly to me when the top of a dress looks like a regular top.

  • Ms_flyover

She looks spectacular – not desperate, just healthy and confident. And I love his tie. If he were a hedge fund manager, I’d probably end up broke.

  • Kent Roby

II can’t see him without thinking about his ridiculous comment blaming his cancer on having oral sex with her, which just completely weirds me out. His craziness aside, they look great.

    • Sarah

      Yeah, me too. Yick.

    • Erica

That was a very odd moment. But as someone who has had my own ongoing problems caused by HPV, I was bothered because it was TMI, not because it was inaccurate medically speaking, because HPV can cause throat cancer (although his drinking and smoking are also contributing causes to throat cancer). Important point to take from it: All you younguns get your vaccine, and parents make sure your kids get them.

      • Kent Roby

I completely agree; it was the TMI factor, as well as the doucheyness of publicly blaming his wife, that bothered me. If he wants to do an informative PSA on HPV, I’m OK with that.

      • Sarah

Yes. I would like to clarify that my “yick” was not because I would ever be cruel to a person who is ill for any reason, but because that was a decidedly un-classy thing for him to do.

      • For me it was a WTF? This man has been in rehab for sex addiction and yet he is specifically referencing oral sex with his wife? Uncool!

      • TerryMH

Totally agree – maybe it was TMI on Douglas’ part but any kind of publicity to get people to take care of themselves is a good thing. My son just got the vaccine and at first he resisted but then I pointed out Michael Douglas as an example of what could happen and now he’s on board.

        • Erica

          Good for you!

    • Daisy Walker

Did he name her or could it have been another (earlier or side) relationship?

      • Kent Roby

I saw her mentioned (blamed, basically) on tv reports, but it might have been an assumption by reporters that he was talking about her since they’ve been together for quite a while. I do remember him specifically denying that his continued smoking and drinking had anything to do with his cancer. Perhaps he was, in fact, trying to give helpful info without blaming her, but the story got skewed. Anyway, he looks great and healthy here.

        • Daisy Walker

I didn’t follow the story that closely and easily could have missed details. Agree about his healthy look.

  • French_Swede

Um … her dress shows off a small waist, but makes her boobs look sad.
    He always looks sensational.

    • Daisy Walker

I blame her bra for that, not the dress.

      • I blame the high waist. It’s an optical illusion – I’ve got a couple of mean dresses that do it to me.

        • Daisy Walker

“Mean dresses.” LOL You need to give them a stern talkin’ to.

  • Gatto Nero

They look fabulous. Nice to see him looking so well.

  • gayle

This is the best she has looked in awhile and he is just so handsome.

  • Chickadeep

Ohmigosh, I *love* her outfit; she looks wonderful. And you’re right — MD doesn’t get a lot of props for always turning it out, but he rarely has a red carpet misstep and he never looks half-assed.

  • Erica

    They both look really great.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

    She is a goddess…

  • Kate Andrews

Gorgeous, and I’m happy to see them together, even if it’s just for the cameras!

  • He looks really good. A lot better than he did for a while. She truly is stunning, and that is a great silhouette on her.

  • ChristySchiff

I miss the days when the Pairs Division ushered stars to the sidelines in tears because they didn’t stick the dismount and get the points they needed to advance to the semi-finals. I guess it fulfilled my need to not just judge others, but do so with authority, like I was The East German Judge or something.

Sigh. Is there anything I can do to convince you to bring back the points, TLo? I try to do it myself in my head, but it’s never as funny, of course.

  • Noah

That’s a tricky silhouette to pull off, and she’s rocking the shit out of it. Attagirl!

  • Loramir

They both look great, and better still, look like themselves. There was a while where he was looking frail after his bout with cancer and she seemed like she was messing with her face or something, and didn’t quite look like herself. They both look great here. Not sure if the waistline of her dress is completely flattering but I love the swirly skirt.

    • I agree that something about her face made (and to me still makes) her look different enough to be noticeable, but not different enough to be identifiable. Maybe it’s medication-related.

  • GillianHolroyd

Not sure about that waistline right up underneath her boobs but skirt is fantastically swishy. He looks wonderfully healthy.

  • B_C_J

I love her flirty skirt & he looks fantastic.

  • mjude

they look good together. I have to say Michael has always just carried himself in the confident way.

    • Little_Olive

Yes, he does! Which I love of him, ’cause he’s been through some stuff. He seems to have some sense of humor about him -which is so sexy and rare.

  • ashtangajunkie

She looks wonderful here and he’s looking sharp and healthy, which is really great to see.

  • Stella Zawistowski

He’s Gordon freaking Gekko. He’s allowed to dress like a hedge fund manager!

  • Judy_J

They both look fabulous. But I see Liberace every time I look at Michael Douglas now.

  • GorgeousThings

LOVE that dress! Any idea who designed it?

  • stubbornthoughts

Wait, they’re back together? These pictures both creep me out and make me extremely happy. CZJ will always be my woman crush, she’s absolutely gorgeous, forever until the end of time.

  • marlie

I love her dress as well, though I wish the pattern started at the waist, and not under her bust. Still, they look classy and effortless. Michael’s showing the guystars how it’s done.

  • msdamselfly

    They both look great

  • paginatrix

Just like to point out that Catherine Zeta Jones (44) is basically the same age as Jennifer Aniston (45). See how much more sustainable it is to use “woman” as your style instead of “girl.” Remember this always.

    • MannahattaMamma

I really like that advice. But feel compelled to add that somewhere I heard that CZJ is …well let’s just say that she maybe shaved a bit of the ol’birthday list in/around the time she got to be a ladystar. She may be closer to the big five-oh than she cops to. Not that she doesn’t look great but … “girl” is even harder when you’re on the other side of the big divide.

      • Corsetmaker

I’ve seen that said on here before. But I remember her on TV in the Darling Buds of May and she looked the 22/23 that she was. Also someone who went to school with her would’ve said something, people in towns like Swansea don’t let people get above themselves about things like that… and for that matter comedian Rob Brydon was at her school but a few years above… or is he lying about his age too!
So yeah, the much repeated rumour of her being older holds no water.

    • sugarkane105

Weird, to me Jennifer Aniston looks much younger than CZJ.

    • alyce1213

Can’t agree with you — CZJ is not aging graceful either, way too much Botox, fillers, facial distortion. Aniston is stuck dressing and presenting herself too youthfully, but at least she hasn’t fucked up her face (yet).

  • bunnydiet

    Why does the box disappear

  • Call me Bee

    A beautiful couple–always a touch of class.

  • luludexter

I love love love what she is wearing. the skirt is fabulous

  • EEKstl

Stunning. Nice to see them back together.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Yes, they are turning some heads.

  • JP

Looks like the separation did them good. They both look happy in their outfits.

  • Sam Smith

While I’m not sure he handled his oral cancer disclosure with tact, I, for one, was happy he spoke of the fact that HPV likely caused his oral cancer. Most people don’t know that HPV can cause these types of cancers. I just had an older relative go through an oral cancer scare. Problems in your mouth are often diagnosed as dental related. Luckily he was pretty quickly and properly diagnosed (he had never smoked or used tobacco products, unlike Mr. Douglas) but he still has problems eating.

    Love the skirt/dress.

  • alyce1213

Their clothing is great. See, Boystars — how a beautiful, colorful tie can elevate a dark suit? Her dresses is gorgeous.
I have no comment on the Botox, fillers, facial “refreshments.”

  • Fraggle

    LOVE the dress!

  • Carolyn

He looks so much like his father in that last photo!

  • connie238

Both look great. I notice that the older he gets, the more he looks like his father.

  • I love the movement of that skirt.

  • GeoDiva

They look really happy. Her outfit is perfect for the occasion.

  • Cynica

He looks exactly like his father in that last photo. They’re both gorgeous.

  • malarson2

He looks gorgeous. LOVE that dress. But the work she’s had done to her face makes me sad.

  • e jerry powell

So are they back to being a thing, then? I’d hate to think they’d work out this look and then go back to being separated.

  • FibonacciSequins

They’re back together? I hope that means they’re doing well. He looks perfect. Classic. I love what she’s wearing, except are those curls laying on her shoulder fake hair?

  • LambeeBaby

They would definitely turn my head. Both of them look fabulous.

  • Kelly

I agree with the others– the older he gets, the more he looks like his dad. Great head of hair. But, ya know, I can’t see him now without thinking of cunnilingus. Which is not a bad thing in and of itself. It’s just. . .I don’t necessarily want to think of it in connection with him specifically, know what I’m saying?
