Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad at the 2014 GLAAD Awards

Posted on April 14, 2014

We’re gonna need some time to get our motors running this morning, having stayed up well past our bed times to get that Mad Men review up. So while we secure our IV caffeine drips and wait for the magic to happen, have yourselves a helping of DIVA.

Girl, there’s so much makeup on your face you look like a RealDoll. No, you look like you emptied your makeup bag onto a pillow and then slammed your face into it.

And those shoes are kind of a disappointing way to punctuate such a shimmery, attention-seeking dress such as that.

What? We said we needed to get our motors running, but we can criticize a red carpet look in our sleep at this point.

Scroll down disappointment for sure. I was anticipating something super high and strappy.

    • Fannie Wolston

Surprised to see a thicker brow, and thank heavens she is not flashing us with her undergarments, overall she kills it.

    • http://attiresmind.blogspot.com/ Kiltdntiltd

I am however grateful she chose to war this dress fully lined.

      • Gatto Nero

Yes! Should have read down before commenting.

      • Golfkat

That was exactly what I was going to say!

      • decormaven

        So grateful!

      • 4JJ

Definitely! (Though those linings always look as though the person has very strange skin.)

      • Trent

And yet…the fact that it was unlined gave it whatever interest it had on the runway. Fully lined, it’s just…Vegas-y. Obviously she had to line it for this event, so why not just choose another dress? (And better shoes.)

    • ojosazules

Not her dress. She fills it out beautifully, but the colors do nothing for her.

    • Introspective

And yet with all this missteps it still somehow reads as fierce. Such is JLo’s powerful drag life force. And we will deal.

    • Gatto Nero

      What you said, uncles.
At least the dress is lined.

    • alyce1213

It’s hard to get past the lashes and — oh gahd — the LIPSTICK! Did she put it on drunk, in the dark? Anyway, I don’t love the dress on its own, but that’s HER dress and she’s wearing it as well as it can be worn.

      • marlie

That lipstick, indeed. It’s like she let a toddler apply it for her, with a magic marker.

      • kimmeister

I think her lip gloss was trying to immigrate to . . . everywhere but her lips. It almost looks like she had an orange popsicle that just stained her mouth’s edges.

    • Sarah

Huh yeah the sandals were a better shoe for it. Weird ‘cuz she likes fierce shoes, but not today. Those lashes are frightening.

      • cocohall

I suspect she didn’t have time to refresh her pedi and was forced into a closed shoe. The clocks ticks the same for divas as it does for mortals, especially divas with young twins.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Has she worn something else from this collection? It looks very familiar. That’s some drag queen lipliner, and not in a good way.

      • Janet B

It was partially burgundy velvet and more ‘veiny’.

        eta: Last October, seasonally appropriate.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Yes – I found it but it’s in moderation. Much more appropriate for October!

      • littlemac8

Good call. This is much better but that make up is bizarre. I can only imagine how weird it would be in person.

    • kmk05

Ooooh, her overdrawn gloopy lips hurt. I also don’t think a high neckline AND long sleeves work very well for her.

      • Anglow

Agree with your post. She looks like she has no neck at all in that dress. And for a moment I thought she had severely chapped lips!

        • kmk05

It’s worse in the close-up pictures. That, with the amount of blush/bronzer on her cheeks was a really bad decision.

    • MilaXX

The shoes are the biggest misstep for me. Yes the makeup is draggy, but for some reason I don’t mind.

      • NBG

The makeup doesn’t bother me either. Probably because if she wasn’t wearing this much draggy make-up, I either would not recognize her or I would think it was her mini-me, Naya Rivera.

    • Aurora Leigh

The makeup, lining, jewelry, and shoes all conspire to take this outfit from Diva to Tacky.

    • Kathy

First, let’s just knock those caterpillars off your eyelids. Now, we may have to do color by number on the lips until you get it right. Much better!

All kidding aside, she manages to look pretty amazeballs despite the flaws. I’d like to see a darker lining to the dress, but I’m grateful it’s lined at all.

      • mlle

I had the same thought about the lining. I don’t like these close-to-wearer’s-skintone-but-a-bit off neutrals.

    • http://redheadedwolf.wordpress.com/ Laura Renee

“No, you look like you emptied your makeup bag onto a pillow and then slammed your face into it.”
Thank you for that, now I can giggle through the rest of my morning.

I’m with the other kittens in blessing the Stylist Stars for opting for a lining.

    • Anna

      That is some scary-ass makeup.

    • DebbieLovesShoes

      So tired of the spider-eyelashes.

    • Danielle

That’s a whole lotta look, girl.

    • Jessica Freeman

Not a huge fan of the dress, but thankfully she had it lined.

    • In_Stitches

She’s workin’ that dress fantastically. She punted hard with the accessories and the hair has a decidedly ‘clipped-in’ look to it, but the dress carries the look, so she gets a passing grade from me.

    • Kent Roby

Good lord; if I was that model I’d wear sheer tops everywhere…church, grocery, dentist appointment. Her figure (and her face) is stunning. The dress is okay on JLo, but the whole look is too severe for me.

    • Patrick Cleary

Is it just me, or has her style been stagnant for quite some time. It’d be amazing if she’d change herself up again. Maybe back to short hair?

      • Kent Roby

It’s just you. JK! I do agree that she’s been looking rather “expected” for quite some time. It’s disappointing considering that she used to routinely make fashion headlines (Green print Versace at the Oscars, her grecian Oscar look, etc.).

      • Janet B

Changing it up appears to equal more rather than different in her world.

eta: What is with the 14 year old posts here? Does anyone else see that?

    • RussellH88

I can’t tell if it looks like she’s covered in thorns or capillaries.

      • Kent Roby

If you haven’t seen “All That Jazz” you should google images of the dancers in the closing number (All That Jazz Bye Bye Life). It’s one of my absolute favorite movies; I rewatch it every few years.

        • RussellH88

I think I’ve actually referenced that movie for another dress that was on this site one.

But it’s a pretty amazing movie, so many great numbers.

          • Kent Roby

You look really young in your photo (of course, we are all Unborn Fawns here!), but being a fellow Bitter Kitten I figured that you were enlightened enough to see that classic! I can pinpoint the first time watching the “Take Off With Us” number as the moment I came of age!

            • RussellH88

              I’m 25 (26 in a few months)

I like to think I’m well educated in the classics, I’ve seen 38 Bette Davis movies and I consider her my own personal deity.

            • Kent Roby

I’m glad you’re getting the proper education!

            • RussellH88

              I’m certainly trying.

I’m a pop culture nerd, I study it like it’s a science. I’m the youngest person in the office (the person closest to me in age is 36) and they’re all surprised when I know things about The Brady Bunch, The Facts of Life, or when I imitate the “Love is a Battlefield” shoulder shimmy.

            • formerlyAnon

While “Take Off With Us” is awesome, my ATJ revelation moment(s) were the Vivaldi & a cigarette in the morning shower scenes and the realization that “It’s showtime, folks!” is, indeed, a sufficient life philosophy for most days.

            • Qitkat

Now you’ve made me want to see the movie.
[hangs head in shame...for not having experienced an iconic film...]

            • formerlyAnon

There are SO MANY films, and books, and nowadays, apparently life changing youtube videos! And there are so few minutes in a day.

            • Qitkat

              and so many TLo comments…

    • MartyBellerMask

Should I be disappointed she wore a lined version of the dress?

    • Kelly

That makeup is so harsh that she doesn’t even look like herself. And the dress makes her look like a horror movie victim, you know, when the character, living in a remote beach house, hears a noise late at night and goes out to investigate — alone.. Next morning, she’s found cold on the beach, strangled by (evil / designed by a mad scientist / mutated by nuclear fallout) mysterious sea plants.

      • Qitkat

WHAT have you been watching/reading? LOL!

    • ashtangajunkie

I wish she had worn her hair up. Those shoes are depressing with that dress, especially on JLo.

    • Stella Zawistowski

After how long it took spring to get here…why are so many celebs dressing like it’s December?

(I guess it’s because they were dressing like it was May when it WAS December)

    • @Biting Panda

She can’t turn down those vein dresses, can she? Honey, try harder to do so.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Shoes are a huge disappointment, and is she yet another one sporting the extensions the Uncles ragged on so exquisitely last week?

    • B_C_J

I like the dress. The pattern makes it interesting. The hair feels a bit like a wig although I am sure it’s not. The make up has been applied rather heavy handed. The bronzer applied at her hairline is disconcerting. However, there is no denying that she is fierce.

    • marlie

Her makeup looks slathered on with a trowel, and her constant posing and vamping are becoming caricature-ish. The dress is ugly, and a little bit tacky, but thankfully it’s lined.

    • Eva_baby

If this isn’t worthy of a world weary ‘Of Course’ I don’t know what is.

    • jilly_d

I would have preferred this with a black lining, I think. Girl loves her some Zuhair Murad.

    • Glam Dixie

Minnie Mouse wants her shoes back and while her makeup is draggy, a real drag queen would have done it better. Her eyelids match her forehead and cheeks. She’s very bronzed.

    • http://angrynerdgirl.net/ Jessi03

That looks like one of RuPaul’s dresses (the one Gia Gunn tried to wear this season on the runway). Ru wore it bettter!

    • Sophie

She really likes that collection, doesn’t she? Or is she just always wearing similar outfits?

    • formerlyAnon

IMO, she’s reaching close to an iconic formulation of an all-purpose diva look. Flashy as a christmas ornament, fully – even modestly – covered, she could be appearing at a religious event or walk about in a high wind – and a face that I imagine isn’t going to change but for the makeup even one iota over the next 5-15 years. I’m thinking this is her ‘all occasions’ LBD-equivalent. As an all-purpose look, it can be dressed up or down. The shoes are down, here. The make-up is . . . hurried? Second string? I don’t hate it but it’s a tad over done.

    • boweryboy

It is wrong for me to say I’m so over her? And why is she still relevant? Has she done anything lately?

      • Glam Dixie

        I luh ya papi?

        • @Biting Panda

“What is, things no grown ass woman should say, for $600, Alex? “

          • Glam Dixie

It was embarrassing to even type it, I can’t imagine singing it in front of actual people.

          • formerlyAnon

Or at least shouldn’t be saying/singing in public. We will draw a veil over everyone’s private moments.

    • KayEmWhy

I’m never like nude lining because it never matches the skin and makes the dress look cheap.

    • Kent Roby

This dress reminds me of the vein/artery bodysuits worn by the dancers with Ben Vereen in the last number from “All That Jazz”. Wow, that was probably the gayest sentence I’ve ever typed.

    • stubbornthoughts

Her schtick is tiring. It’s starting to feel too Kim K, and THAT’S disturbing.

    • sagecreek

      As least she lined it.

    • numenah

Aside from everything else, the dress requires a swan-like neck, which JLo does not have. And, as I know all too well, any neckline resembling the turtle does not flatter curvy woman.

    • Cindy Bartlett Zigler

Those shoes do not do that dress justice! Tired ol’ platform pumps – I don’t care if they’re Jimmy Choos, they don’t werq at all.

    • lunchcoma

It’s slightly ridiculous, but it’s J-Lo. Slightly ridiculous is her wheelhouse, and she has enough presence to balance out that dress.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

I, too, am glad she wore the dress lined, but that lining is a horrible color to my eyes. Looks so much better on the model because her skin is not that color. That is a massive amount of poorly applied makeup.

    • Myra Amler

While i like the length of the dress on the model, I don’t like it on JLo. The length plus that neckline make her look stumpy. The makeup and shoes….Oh myyyy

    • Twix

When your eyelashes hit your eyebrows, that’s never a good look.

    • Columbinia

That is the Tammy Faye Baker school of eye makeup there on Ms. Lopez. On the runway model the pattern of the dress is centered so that it looks like a map of the human circulatory system. The off-centering makes it look more like a tree branch pattern, which is better.

    • Little_Olive

Oh JLo, the Kardashians and Riveras have to want to be you. Not the other way round.
Now go rub an eraser on those brows because they are killing me.

    • colorjunky

Can that lip “extension” color be on purpose! Holy diva!

    • BLauD

I don’t know if it’s the angles of these shots or just her real proportions, but girl, turtlenecks are not your friend.

    • MannahattaMamma

it’s like someone took the illustration of the circulatory system from a medical textbook and sprinkled glitter on it, then glued the whole damn mess on JLo.

    • shelley514

That dress looks fantastic on the runway model, but on JLo notsomuch.

      • Mousentrude

Her neck’s not long enough; it makes her look like she has no neck.

    • thesevenendless

Is it just me, or maybe she should have worn a black slip under the dress instead of a nude one?

    • wisdomy

Didn’t GGGGia wear this in her Night of 1000 Rus challenge?

      • demidaemon

If it was in a non-color, then yes, she would have.

    • demidaemon

I know this might sound like blasphemy, but she needed to shorten the hem of this dress. That length is not doing any favors for her legs.

    • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

If the lining were slightly warmer (in color) it would look much sexier, not to mention setting off the blue beading. I’m gonna pretend I didn’t see her makeup situation.

    • Clash D

The dress on the model literally made my tongue roll out. That girl’s bod be slammin’.

    • altissima

I’m glad she lined the dress, but i wish it was in her skin tone or darker instead of that blah beige.

    • Lila

But she got the bitchface absolutely perfect (1st photo)

    • SewingSiren

      For Madame Tussauds?

    • TLJezebel

      Phlebolomist’s dream.
