Emma Stone Style Double Shot

Posted on April 29, 2014

You know why we get frustrated with her sometimes on the style front? It’s because, despite her many style missteps, every once in a while she nails it so hard it’ll take your breath away. Case in point:

Emma-Stone-Gucci-Brock-Jimmy-Fallon-Tom-Lorenzo-Site-TLO (1)Emma Stone stepping out in New York City in a Brock red floral jacquard coat, a Gucci dress and Christian Louboutin black shoes.

BAM. Now, THAT is some COAT PORN, kittens. And while something like this could go in either a too-precious or too “elderly socialite” direction depending on the styling, we think the Killer Klassic pumps are punctuating the look perfectly in a chic, understated way while the leather collar adds just enough of an edge to keep it interesting. It’s a really stunning look. Honestly? One of our favorites of the year so far. It’s kind of a shame she didn’t wear this on the red carpet. Granted, getting ladystars to wear outerwear on the red carpet is akin to getting boystars to wear kilts.

And speaking of that leather collar…

Personally, that’s a little bit too much in the way of a side cutout for sitting down on television, but it’s a pretty fantastic LBD otherwise. Love the shape of it.

What do we think of her hair color? We’re not in love. It’s got that flat, brassy, drugstore hair dye look to it.

All I know is that she owned the karaoke battle against Jimmy. She was a great guest!

      • Emily Giovanni

Yeah she killed it. Blew him out of the water, and looked awesome doing it.

        • shirab

Isn’t it fun when a famous person is great at something unexpected? Also, I loved that she clearly put the time in to get it right and then totally went for it on stage (and in those heels!).

      • http://heartprintandstyle.com/ Vivi N

Read your comment and immediately jumped onto YouTube to watch. You’re right; she killed it. Then I found myself watching other Lip Sync Battles. The one with JGL and Stephen Merchant was just flat out brilliant.

        • makeityourself

My favorite is with Pail Rudd. When I need to feel happy I watch it.

        • holla

I did the same. I have seen the JGL one a thousand times and I love it more every time. Yes, Emma really killed it. Maybe she and JGL should battle.

    • LilyVanessi

The dress was perfect for the lip synch competition she had with Jimmy. And I want that coat.

      • Scimommy

I just watched the lip synch. She killed it.

        • HomeOfficeGirl

Yep. I love her forever for that.

      • NMMagpie

        ^ Ditto!

      • Constant Reader

I just watched it, too. Completely brightened up a dreary New England day.

    • ashtangajunkie

Weeping for that coat. Helllloooo, lover.

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

That coat is gorgeous. I don’t care if it is a lady’s floral print coat. I would Andre Leon Talley the shit out of it.

      • The Versatile Chef

Wouldn’t ALT have the floral on the inside? I’m totally seeing that.

    • TrixieConQueso

I give her an Easy A.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I am amazed that coat looks so good. The way it is on the model it looks too tricky but on Emma it is divine.

    • Anna

Gotta say, I mostly love it all, especially the leather collar with the coat. Even that cutout from the side (which looks like one of those Lululemon layered tank/sports bra combos), isn’t bugging me as much as it normally would.

      • Kitten Mittons

I love it all, even the hair color. I do wish the bangs were just a teeeeeeeny bit shorter. But the clothes are fantastic.

        • Anna

I love the hair too, and I hear you on the bangs. Mine are about that length and they’re driving me nuts, I hate when they get in my eyes.

          • Kitten Mittons

I generally trim my own between cuts, and take the wrath of my stylist when I see her. But I can’t deal with hair in my eyes. Hair in my face is a huge pet peeve, so I know I’m nitpicking her, probably unfairly.

            • Anna

Same! After a visit to my stylist (so, for like 1 day), my hair is a shoulder-length bob with bangs but most of the time it’s either in a messy ponytail or if I feel like putting a little more effort in, I do the bun as seen on Emma above (not as nice and polished as hers though).

            • Kitten Mittons

Samesies, but mine are side-swept. And mine is closer to chin length. And I wear it down and wavy most days because it’s too short to put up.

So, really not the same at all. But I feel ya.

            • Anna

I wish my hair had a bit of texture, mine is stick straight so I have to do something with it or it just hangs there. And since I like sleep and hate hairstyling, it must be long enough to put into a ponytail. On the days I do wear it down, it’s like I got a makeover, with co-workers commenting, “Oh! When did you get a new haircut?”

            • The Versatile Chef

Got my hair cut, colored and highlighted Friday and all day Saturday, folks were like “Wow your hair looks fantastic!”. Yeah, enjoy it now because it’s not going to look like that again until my next appointment.

Yeah, today it’s in a messy ponytail and I have a baseball cap jammed on my head. My usual look.

            • Anna

Yes, those precious few hours after a trip to the stylist are to be treasured. Which is why I really cannot understand celebrities who have shitty hair, there’s someone there who’s job it is to style it for you while you drink a gin and tonic/text/sleep/whatever!

          • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Mine too, plus it means my glasses are absolutely filthy – I have to clean them about 6 times a day.

            • Kitten Mittons

That is the worst. Lucky for me I forget mine at home most days.

            • Anna

The other bane of my existence! Mine are just permanently smudged, I think they just do that on their own.

            • Sarah

I always have fingerprints all over my glasses. I have tried to be conscious of that, but I never catch myself just putting my palms and fingertips all over them, which the evidence suggests I must do. Also: Long eyelashes = water droplets on inside of lenses when I’ve cried or had a yawn.

            • Anna

Same! And I’m horrible with mine. I pick up them up and pull them off in pretty much every way you’re not supposed to and I’m always dropping them. I don’t have the long lashes problem, although I wish I did!

            • Sarah

ARGH me too! Mine are hugely framed, so I think the big lenses attract more stuff, but I really hate having to clean them multiple times a day. I think that’s why I am unbothered by long-ish bangs, because my huge glasses keep them from my eyes. I also have curly bangs, so I have to keep them long or when my hair is at its bounciest, they will be way too short.

    • NMMagpie

I just watched Emma SHUT IT DOWN in an epic lip-sync battle with Jimmy and that dress was perfect for the event.

      • mar

She was all kinds of awesome in that lip sync! I loved her dress and those shoes. I wasn’t in love with her bangs till she worked it on that stage with her hair flying all over the place.

    • SarahDH

I think the side cutouts work because it’s dramatic for walking out, but not super noticeable when she’s sitting down, so it skews more classy than you would think.

    • @Biting Panda

      Grand Slam Home Run.

      • Jacob Bowen

Hey, you athletic kitten! Love me a sports reference!

    • carnush

A modern Holly Golightly. Just perfect.

      • malarson2

        This!! First thing I thought.

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

      Ohhhh man. That coat.

    • Sarah

That coat is divine, for sure. She looks gorgeous. I am not sure that dress is being served by the cutouts. It looks great sitting down in the pics where you can’t see them at all, so I kinda wish they were just gone. Her hair looks good, to me. Her bangs are the shiz.

      • @Biting Panda

Sexy when she walks, ladylike when she sits.

    • Kent Roby

Yes, this proves that it’s a major crime for her to ever look less than awesome for RC appearances. And, seriously, wearing a cute, short kimono-influenced coat to have tea? That’s pretty flawless.

      • HomeOfficeGirl

I know, right? What a life.

      • kimmeister

        And even Geisha-ish hair!

    • Jessica Freeman

I think the leather collar almost ruins the first look. And the second one is surely a full on mess. Especially for TV.

      • MilaXX

Believe it or not that dress worked really well on the show. You only noticed the sides when she walked out. She must have had some pretty good boob tape because she was moving around a whole lot during the karaoke battle with nary a boob slip.

      • imspinningaround

I like the leather collar, but it needs the awesome belt to set it off. I can see why she would have skipped it for a TV sit-down, but the belt and the collar speak to each other.

    • hillmad

That collar makes the dress AND the coat! And this is the best she has ever looked! WERQ!

    • French_Swede

I like the little Gucci dress so much better with the belt, shown on the model.

    • MilaXX

LOVE that coat. It’s on my wish list. She performed as greatly as she looked last night. Well played Emma.

    • Ginger

I actually really love both the coat AND the dress (cutouts and all…weird!). The only thing that I’m not loving here is her hair. I’m apathetic about the color, but the bangs aren’t her best choice…they hide her amazing eyes.

      • @Biting Panda

I’m having major hair envy, with this one. I like the bangs, but I’d prefer a bolder eye.

    • Sobaika

So chic. Cutouts on different people/bodies could look trashy but she’s pulling it off with ease. As for the hair, I’m just pleased she’s back to red.

    • crash1212

Want the coat – the leather collar makes it. If one must do a cut-out dress, that’s the way to do it. The horizontal piece keeps any thought of a slip from happening and when she’s sitting down, you can’t even see it. I love this entire look and I’ve always liked her hair in a deeper red, so I’m loving that as well. This post makes me smile! With that, I’m heading to work…wishing I had that coat.

    • M_E_S

I think she looks fabulous, and bless her for reminding me that having super pale skin isn’t the worst thing in the world (which is my normal feeling, especially in the summer when I burn almost instantly). I think it makes her look even lovelier, especially in that jacket.

      • xmixiex

agreed! i love my fair skin but it can be tricky in summer clothes. being so slender makes it much more forgiving!! (signed, also extremely pale, yet less slender)

        • http://www.readbarbara.com/ ReadBarbara

          Amen to that!

        • M_E_S

Ah yes, it would be so much better if I was on the slim side! But I will try to appreciate my paleness this summer.

      • Kitten Mittons

I do think her pale coloring really sells the look, in the sense that if she were tanned and dipped in magic orange spray, it would all look decidedly less fabulous. Her natural skin tone looks perfect with it, and I love that she rocks it. I do think someone with naturally darker coloring, like Eva Mendez, could work a look like this as well, but I give Emma an SPF 50 high five for excellent skin care.

    • uprightcitizen

I like her so much better as a redhead. It just seems to suit her personality and her features so much more than when she’s blonde. Does anyone know what her natural hair color is?

      • SayWhaaatNow

        Blonde.

    • msdamselfly

I like the coat the way it was styled on the model. Love it with those oxfords and the lack of a collar.

    • Danielle

I gasped so hard at the coat I hyperventilated. Stunning.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

      Want coat. So hard. Oof.

    • Fuchsiaforever

Wow!! She nailed it!!! I love it all! *vigorous clapping* brava!

    • cocohall

She is really bringing it as she rounds third towards home plate. She’s smart – in that most of the American public will not be aware of all her odd fashion missteps as she was selling Spidey around the globe and will just see what she wears in America. Love both these looks. That coat is beyond. Way to go Miss Emma!

    • Cheryl

Love the coat and the dress, and I’ve got no problem with the hair colour, I think it suits her and is pretty.

    • Gatto Nero

Gorgeous coat, and perfect styling to set it off. Love that it was photographed next to the “Join us for afternoon tea” sign.
Like the dress, too, but the cutouts are much too wide.

    • jilly_d

She looks fantastic. I’m such a fangurl and it makes me happy to see her looking good. Can’t wait to get to this on my DVR tonight.

    • teensmom99

OMG that is the definition of coat porn. I’ll have what she’s having.

    • http://sleepingfoxstitchery.weebly.com CLoverleaf

I just wanted to scream “Do not let the sun touch your skin!” in those first few pics. That is some porcelain skin.

      • Vtg Fashion Library

As a very fair redhead, I thank you for this. Not all of us are sun worshippers. I protect my porcelain complexion at all costs.

    • NeenaJ

Give Joan Holloway back her coat!

    • Julie

The first shot says, “I’m a MOVIE STAR, betch!”

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

I like it all, even her hair color.

      • Shawn EH

Red of any shade is better than blonde for her.

    • kategs

she looks completely amazing and the hair is so shiny and pretty.,..

    • http://chick-habit.com Ally Huang

That coat. That dress. OH GOD. WANT.

    • B_C_J

The coat is incredible & suits her to perfection. I like that the hair is up but I wish it was in a twist instead of the bun. The hair color looks good to me. In the outdoor pics it looks very glossy.

    • marlie

I love both looks, without reservation. The cutouts on the dress might be too much on a more buxom ladystar, but on Emma it give the dress enough interest to not be boring (that, and the leather accents). That coat is just breathtaking, and I think her hair and makeup look lovely. THAT’S how to do the topknot bun.

    • mjude

      I so WANT the coat.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I give her a second “BAM” for the dress….she would have gotten a standing WERQ if she had worn the coat onto the set, and then taken it off on camera to reveal that dress. Fab look, love it all!

    • formerlyAnon

Two successes. That coat is unbelievable. Wonderful. Delicious.

    • Coco Cornejo

Those are some pale legs. At first I thought she was wearing some kind of tights. I find them really distracting from the bold colors she’s wearing.

    • decormaven

Better than ANYTHING she wore on the poledance. Gorgeous from top to toe.

    • MM4321

She is adorable and awesome (and killed it on Fallon). That said . . . I wouldn’t be mad at her if she ate a sandwich once in a while.

    • SugarSnap108

LOVE that first look. And the “Join us for afternoon tea” in the background is perfect.

    • StillGary

I don’t know …. it kind of remeinds me of those mid-length robes my mom called “dusters.” I thought from the first pic it it was Christina Hendricks — not that that’s a bad thing.

    • MannahattaMamma

I would kill many people for the boots the model is wearing in the dress shot. And then a few more to get my hands on that damn coat. oooh…aaahh….oooohhh

    • Denise Rambo

      I LOVE IT ALL!

    • Laura Poehlman

That dress looked so amazing when she did the lip sync battle with Jimmy though, so I’m guessing she picked it knowing she’d look fierce in action.

      • the_valkyrie

She just oozes charm, doesn’t she?

    • Gatto Nero

I keep coming back to ogle that coat. That fabric. I could eat it.

    • kbshee

Note to self: cover up brassy flat drug store hair when meeting TLo. Or make an appointment at a real salon.

      • formerlyAnon

Now, now. They swear they won’t judge you the way they judge the stars. (Besides, they meet so many of us now, it’s all one blur of ordinary personhood I imagine.)

        • kbshee

Taking deep breaths and telling myself my hair is not that bad.

      • alyce1213

        I just booked a mani-pedi for Friday.

    • deitybox

I just realized that what the universe needs is for Emma Stone to do a cameo as Joan Holloway Harris’ fabulous younger cousin.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

She rocks that coat better than the model, and love her hair. Personally, I find that that color hair doesn’t photograph well. I have a similar color, which I color myself using professional products. Looks good in the mirror, but comes out bright orange in some photographs. There’s a picture of the crowd at T Lo’s NYC book signing taken from the back of the room. I found myself immediately because I’m the one whose head looks like it is on fire.

    • Noah

Any woman that can throw herself all over a stage while rocking out to All I Do Is Win without having a wardrobe malfunction with that kind of cutout dress is not of this world.

    • Lilithcat

I would kill for that coat!

    • SusannaGA

Love the coat and love the dress, but wish she’d kept the belt on the dress — it adds a nice sharp and shiny punctuation to the black.

    • alyce1213

That coat is epically chic, I love it so much. I also love the black dress. I’m not a fan of cutouts in general, but when nothing’s hanging or popping out, I’m fine with it. Extremely tasteful, nothing vulgar or in-you-face here. Her hair is gorgeous, shiny and DONE (meaning not yoga hair).
For me it’s a double WERQ.

    • Valdri8

I want that coat so bad, I may have to hurt someone.

    • ktr33

I think the dress is a knockout. The open panels make a great contrast with the demure but edgy leather color. Love the shape and fit of it too. Her hair color in the coat pics seems richer and prettier, but not quibbling with the Jimmy appearance outfit.

    • Mothra

I would sell three of my cats for that red coat.

    • LadyVimes

Combined score is right in between an ‘Attagirl and a Werq for me. The coat is a WERQ, straight up.

    • understateddiva

There’s an effortless chic to this look that she doesn’t always achieve – more of this Ms. Stone!!!

    • GeoDiva

Just when you think there is no hope for her, she walks out in the gorgeous coat. The whole look is perfection.

    • mila_8

I’m seeing some Sigourney in that smile.

    • BrooklynBomber

DAMN that coat is a slam dunk!

    • http://stores.ebay.com/QFClothing QFClothing

I love the edited version of this coat-the original was kinda odd.
