Christina Hendricks at the Jimmy Choo’s CHOO.08 Launch Party

Posted on April 16, 2014

Wow, this all looks great until you get down to her they-told-me-to-wear-these shoes.

A real shame, because the shoes work great for her and the dress works great for her, but they don’t really work great together. Loving the hair and makeup. Not so much on the “free gift with purchase” bag. Basically, we don’t like anything in this look with a Jimmy Choo label on it, which kind of defeats the purpose of wearing them to a Jimmy Choo event.

Well. It defeats the purpose if the purpose is to impress us. Which it should be.

Those shoes are the most dreadful things I’ve seen today. And I’ve seen a lot of dreadful things today. A LOT.

  • theblondette

Oh noooo, those shoes don’t work at all! Just because shoes are black doesn’t mean they automatically go with a black dress! That pair throw her proportions all off. In general I find Choo overrated, though.

  • NJBK

The shoes are so Wrong with that dress, I just can’t.

  • jilly_d

    • PastryGoddess

      You beat me to it

  • Danielle

    Scrolldown fug.

  • ilikemints

Those shoes are BDSM court jester travesties. Poor Christina.

  • Zeee

Hate the shoes in general. They look like striped ankle socks in the photo.

    • kimmeister

They’re like something Beetlejuice’s wife would wear.

      • Sarah

        Seuss Shoes.

      • demidaemon

I’m scared of the woman who would be Beetlejuice’s wife. I know the cartoon implied it would be Lydia, but, for real, who would want to sign up for that for all eternity?

        • Kent Roby

Apparently even fashion victim Paula Patton was scared off by the suit.

          • demidaemon

I see what you did there. SHADE! And I heartily approve of it.

  • rloliveira

No, those shoes are wrong for her no matter what dress she wears. They could only work on someone tall, with very long legs. She would best be served by a shoe without straps that cut all the length out of her leg.

    • sagecreek

Bingo. I cannot see her in these shoes, ever. These are Tilda shoes.

    • kimmeister

They might be passable with pants, definitely not with any dress or skirt.

      • rloliveira

agreed. Then the pants do the work of elongating the legs.

      • Vaniljekjeks

That was my thought… they’d be killer with a black skinny pant.

  • Courtenay P

makeup is gorgeous though. personal best.

  • Jaeda Laurez

Those shoes are very “good in theory, and possibly in profile” shoes. But dead on? They look awful, and make her look cankle-y. The dress and hair are banging, though- whoever handed those to her, she should keep.

    • Jacob Bowen

TOTALLY “cankle-y”. Unfortunate since the rest of her is TOTALLY banging.

      • demidaemon

I know. She so rarely gets it 100% right, and the constrictions placed on her by this event doomed her to being at least 75% right.

  • Whoever did her make up needs to be held high on a pedestal. This is the face for spring. It touches on The Look I Dare Not Mention around the eyes without making her look ill.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Her make up is lovely. Now we just need to get rid of the shoes. Lots and lots of straps do not necessarily make an attractive shoe.

      • Best piece of advice my grandmother – world traveler and proud Texan – ever passed down to me was never go on a road trip wearing sandals or flip flops. I learned how awesome this advice was after I ignored it and had a lovely grill burn on my feet.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

          A wise woman, your grandmother.

    • amaranth16

The lipstick in particular is phenomenal on her.

  • flamants

I don’t know if it’s just the angle of the photo, but those shoes look more like striped socks on her than glamorous heels.

  • BlairBear

That background is so bad and focus pulling

  • hughman

Put these shoes on, stick your feet out from under a house that fell from Kansas and you’re set.

  • Imasewsure

Girl is as shoe-challenged as Lupita… and clearly from her smile, she does not know it!

    • ampg

I suspect she has a really hard time finding shoes that will work for her, since I believe she has foot issues. I was wondering that about this selection – maybe it’s the only pair from the collection she can walk in.

  • Ashleigh

Wow. You weren’t kidding! Those are heinous

  • Charm City

Shoes aside, that dress looks absolutely fantastic on her. Anyone know the designer?

  • MilaXX

Completely agree. Love the hair, makeup and dress. Shoes are okay, but not with this dress. Bag is hiddy.

  • PinkyAndNoBrain

I don’t know what you’re talking about, these shoes look great! Every girl wants to look like she has weird Suessian stumps instead of ankles. Right? Is it just me?

  • Malia C.

I shrieked, didn’t even think they were shoes but horrible striped socks. The dress looks smashing on her. The bag, yes, needs to be returned to the Estee Lauder counter.

  • Chase

I’ve never, ever seen Christina wear a decent pair of shoes. Like, ever.

  • deelup

    Is she wearing a wig?

    • Qitkat

I’m very distracted by the placement of that wig, too high! and the hot pink bag bugs more than the shoes to me.

    • tallgirl1204

I think she regularly wears hairpieces.

  • marlie

Love the dress, but girl, those aren’t your shoes. They aren’t even remotely flattering on her.

  • Mothra

I like the shoes. The dress I can do without, though.. It looks like something Joan might wear to an office funeral.

  • cocohall

I’m having a sad here for Christina, because, apart from the shoes, she looks super cute. That dress is great on her. But hell to the no with those shoes. I’m at a loss to why anyone would think they would work on Christina ever. They just aren’t her style in general. I’m thinking Florence Welch could make them sing – especially if they were in olive green.

  • Alloy Jane

What a shame about the shoes. She looks lovely. Not a fan of the Monty Python bag either.

  • LadyVimes

As a *ahem* well endowed lady, I am taking dress style/cut notes. And I am pretending the shoes/purse do not exist.

    • FrigidDiva

I was coming here to comment that exact thing. I’m not quite as generously proportioned as Christina up top, but if she can find dresses that don’t just scream BOOBS, I should certainly be able to.

  • tallgirl1204

But that dress is quite nice on Ms. Hendricks. Shaped like a Joanie dress, but not of that era. Very nice indeed.

  • quiltrx

Those shoes will only look good sticking out from under a house.

    • dschubba

Pack it up, everyone. We’re done here.

  • LeelaST

Hate the cape/faux cape issue. Die. Those shoes are horrid.

    • ElaineMarie34

I agree – she’s selling it but it makes her shoulders look too round and sloping. Bothers me more than the shoes.

  • GeoDiva

The shoes needed to be open-toed.

  • andi56

    Oooh. That was just mean.

  • RoseJB

In what way do the shoes work great for her?

  • ashtangajunkie

She should have scolded the person who handed her these shoes. Holloway style.

  • Michelle Lim

Those shoes just made her legs that much shorter. Not flattering at all.

  • MM4321

The face and makeup are gorgeous, but I have to ask . . . is she wearing a wig? ‘Cos that hairline looks questionable to me.

  • CT14

I love it when she wears clothes that fit!

Those shoes are hiddy. I might like them with something else, but they are ruining everything above the ankles.

  • Fred Vaughn

    The wrong shoes.

  • alyce1213

I love the dress on her, it’s a cute shape and a perfect length for her legs. I don’t like the shoes, I don’t think the idea of them is well executed, but props to her for trying something other than her usual pumps. She looks beautiful.

  • Vtg Fashion Library

    Cankle shoes.

  • kmk05

Everything works here except the clutch and the shoes. Which is ridiculous. Her face and hair are phenomenal: I especially like that pink lip colour! Springtime is in the air.

  • Sophie

Nice little sleeves-capelet. Hate the shoes.

  • MannahattaMamma

    Shoes of Pain.

  • MartyBellerMask

For once, she ditches the kitten heels. But she swaps them for THESE. Sigh.

  • FrigidDiva

Maybe since that dress has the capelet type thing going on up top, they wanted to finish the witchy look with the shoes? At least they didn’t put her in a pointed hat. I do like the general shape of the dress though, I think it flatters her figure exceptionally well. The darts and seaming are all in the right places and it accents her assets instead of just relying on boobs to sell the look.

  • NBG

Great dress and wonderful deployment of foundation garments. A win from the ankles up.

  • If you took away 4 of the 6 horizontal straps, the gold T-strap, and the heel zipper, this would be a lovely shoe. Back to the drawing board, JC.

  • TAGinMO

Jimmy Choo ‘Fever’ ‘Cankle’ Black Suede and Antique Gold Mirror Leather Strappy Booties

    There. Fixed.

  • MzzPants

    Scroll down exclamation of horror.

  • Joanna

I’m in the minority, I see, in not hating the shoes. I think they’re kind of cool.

  • B_C_J

Those shoes might work for a giraffe. They will not flatter a human.

  • JP

I love her in this silhouette, but I disagree about the shoes being OK for her at all. They make her legs look horribly stumpy.

  • formerlyAnon

“It defeats the purpose if the purpose is to impress us. Which it should be.”

Y’all so strict, wanting some contact with reality!

  • Raspberry2012

Eh, the shoes aren’t *that* bad. But the whole ensemble is totally underwhelming.

  • Sorry, Jimmy Choo, but I do not want to wear Hamburglar Shoes.

  • ThaliaMenninger

The dress is very nice, but the shoes… Look like the shoe-ified version of prison.

  • FridaStaire

Where can I get that dress?
