Matt Bomer at the “Space Station 76″ Premiere

Posted on March 10, 2014

Possibly too much cuteness for one Monday morning. We’re at Maximum Cuteness here, people. Brace yourselves.

Although we suppose we could cover him with puppies and kittens. That would up the cuteness factor.

In all seriousness, though; is this, perhaps a little on the too-precious side of guy style? Even if it is, we’d take that jacket.

This looks kinda weird on him. It’s like he stole one of Kevin McHale’s outfits.

    • @Biting Panda

      Gay George McFly.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Exactly what I was going to say!

    • NBG

Anytime he wears glasses, my mind plays the Superman movie that might have been. *sigh*

      • conniemd

Saw the Superman movie recently. I too thought he would have made a perfect Clark Kent with the glasses. However, the Superman movie really has very little Clark Kent and is mostly Superman, so not so much lost.

      • Mismarker

I dislike these particular frames, though. The black gives the illusion of a second set of eyebrows.

    • Carrie

Not feeling this one. The jacket, tie and glasses are all too much. Ditching the tie would be a good start, though.

      • Rhonda Shore

Just what i thought…really like the glasses and jacket. Maybe black shoes instead. He’s over-accessorized.

        • Carrie

Agreed. It’s alllmost coming off as try-hard, but I think it’s more a case of someone forgetting to remind him to remove one accessory before you leave.

          • Rhonda Shore

            Such over-accessorizing is a form of enthusiasm, i suppose…

      • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

I gotta agree. The tie is an accessory too far. And I don’t care for the haircut.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

Too much. Keep the glasses. Get rid of at least one of the jacket, shoes, or tie.

    • Patrick Cleary

Be still my nerdy gay heart…

    • http://attiresmind.blogspot.com/ Kiltdntiltd

I will at least give him an A for effort.

      • Cz

I’d like to hand deliver that A and maybe give him a few other things for his effort.

    • http://www.beautifymylifeblog.com Jessica

This imeddiately made me think of Brendan Fraser in Blast From the Past. Not feeling it.

    • hyperionic

He looks like a massive dork.

      • MilaXX

Given the venue that’s not a bad thing

    • cocohall

It would seem that when you are as a good looking as Matt, you wouldn’t have to work so hard for some attention. This is so much the illustrative photo for “After you get dressed, take one thing off” maxim, except Matt has clearly set his bar very high. I think there are about three things too many going on with this look. Individually, they are all fine, but deploying them together is just cheesy.

    • mmebam

The tie takes it into precious territory. Remove that, and change the shirt to a T-shirt (but keep the color), and this would be great.

    • RunAmuck

Is he trying to look like the kid from A Christmas Story all grown up?

    • jw_ny

Looks like an easy and every day kind of guy style…not “precious” imo. The tie bugs a bit though…perhaps too long and not casual enough…pattern & fabric. His belt exactly matching his shoes kind of bugs too…shoes are fantastic though.

    • MissMariRose

I had no idea until right this moment that I was attracted to the Gay Nerd look.

    • AmeliaEve

Twee as all get-out. Where is his Marc Jacobs slide rule?

    • Aurora Leigh

      I can’t get past the button-down collar.

    • ashtangajunkie

It’s all a bit much together for me, but I still wouldn’t kick him out of bed for eating crackers.

    • kt

He has never been my taste, which I am sure he loses no sleep over. But I don’t think I have ever felt such a lack of feeling about an outfit/person. Like he is so utterly not for me that I don’t have any opinions at all. Cute glasses- Heroes anyone?

    • SugarSnap108

Why is his hair so light? Is it absorbing and emitting the hiddy background color? Yeah, this a bit too self-aware adorable for me.

    • Alyssa

Lose the tie, and I think it would be much better. Looks to try-hard for me. But he’s still adorable, and I appreciate starting my Monday off with him!

      • Shawn EH

That’s it. The tie is a trifle precious, with all the rest of the matchy-matchy.

    • Youbeguilemenot

      Erm, NO.

    • barbarienne

Something between the jacket, the shirt, and the tie isn’t quite working for me. Either a solid tie or shirt would help. The jacket MUST STAY because it is a splendid jacket.

Hmm, yes, I think the play between the shirt and tie are pulling focus from the jacket (and his face), but since I have eyes, I want to look at the jacket (and his face).

      • Shawn EH

Totally, keep the jacket over all else.

      • Kitten Mittons

At least one element in there needs to go. I like the button-down with the tie and the jacket, but either the shirt or the tie could be a solid color. I really like the glasses on him, but with everything else going on, they are maybe a bridge too far.
Either that or just lose the jacket. But it IS pretty amazing…..

        • barbarienne

It’s like he got dressed, said, “That looks good!” then put on the jacket. Fine for normal people who aren’t going to be photographed on a red carpet, but stars need to check the whole look.

But that jacket is killa, so he needs to rethink what’s under it.

          • Kitten Mittons

Excellent point, didn’t even think of that. Man, I would be a terrible star.

            • barbarienne

I would be the star everyone throws up their hands at. “She hates to get dressed up! She hates wearing makeup! How can she possibly have a career?”

I wonder if stars view the red carpet as another acting gig. Makeup, outfits, particular behavior–is it any different from any other costume and performance, except it’s live and improv?

    • marlie

This is totally adorkable, but it doesn’t seem like Matt’s “thing.” He usually skews more “suave,” and that seems to suit him better.

      • ampg

Right! I love it, but he doesn’t look at all like himself.

    • SayWhaaatNow

I want to give him a chapstick, though. :-/

    • TRSTL

LOVE it all, this is right up my style alley for most days to work. But…. I would have not done the matching belt/shoes thing in such an eye catching shade of leather. Love the shoes, go with a darker, less obvious belt next time and the “precious” factor goes down a bit. And, shorten the tie a skoosh.

    • MilaXX

Need chic times 10. It may be bordering on twee but I love it.

    • Jeremy Thomas Porta

I think boys should be able to be precious if they want to. He still looks sexy in my opinion.

    • Grumpy Girl

Why did he not shave? Is the need to show stubble truly the cool thing now? (This is what my 14-year-old son was telling me–in that fake-deep mumbly voice used by teenage boys: I shave now because it’s a novelty and I want to look smooth, but when I’m in my 20s working, I’ll need to have stubble, because that’s what is sexy.)

    • Janet B

This isn’t a style he usually shows. It’s cute, but I’d rather he not be cute unless it includes puppies, kittens, or young children.

    • Super_Red

I… I don’t know how I feel about this. I love Matt Bomer to the ends of the earth, but this just feels *so* affected. Which I guess is the point. It just looks so similar to street fashion, but if I saw him on the street in this, I’d roll my eyes and think he was trying way too hard. But, since men in the celebrity world often don’t try at all, I suppose I have to give snaps. And I’m rambling. Can you tell it’s a Monday morning and I haven’t had any caffeine?

He doesn’t look bad, but he doesn’t look like himself to my eye. Also, the glasses are messing with my perception of his face, and I have to keep staring at him to convince myself that it’s actually Matt Bomer (not that I’m complaning. =p). He looks like someone else, and it’s on the tip of my tongue. Don’t mind me, I”m just gonna go get some coffee….

    • BazoDee

I adore all things Bomer but this isn’t working for me at all. I think a tshirt would have been the way to go with the jacket. Not loving the shape of the glasses on his face.
Of course the fit of the pants either leave nothing to the imagination or stokes the imagination sufficiently to make his clothing choices irrelevant. I hate objectifying him so, but daym he is so fine even when he looks like a dork.

    • Constant Reader

It’s a twee too far, but I forgive him.

    • conniemd

I like shirts and ties with jeans, gives the appearance a bit of an up do – casual, but not street, which seems perfect for this venue. However, the tie and shirt just do not go together. Either get a plain shirt or plain tie, but the stripes and plaid together make my eyes bleed. I think I’d swap out the tie for plain black with texture (much as I usually hate those ties).

He does look adorkably cute here. Love the glasses.

    • Frank_821

Well he’s at South by Southwest which is in Austin. That likely means he was trying for a bit of a hipster vibe to fit in with the event and the city

btw Austin was like 40-50 degrees all weekend. so a light jacket was in order

    • Mismarker

Love child of Clark Kent and Potsie.

      • Imasewsure

You nailed it. Not sure where the Potsie is exactly but it is 100% there… :)

    • filmcricket

Lose the tie, and we might be somewhere.

    • suzq

Cutie McCuterson. Love it from head to toe. Alright, if I had to remove one thing, it would be that old man tie.

    • jilly_d

Waaaay too precious for me, but I prefer my men to score precisely zero on the precious-o-meter.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

He looks like local SoCal legend, Charles Phoenix – this is high praise as Mr. Phoenix’s picture graces my bathroom.

    • http://batman-news.com boweryboy

It’s a put together look, I’ll give him that, but it’s not his look.

The shoes look clunky like they have lifts in them, and the blue of the jacket is making his skin look gray. I don’t like the glasses. I think this look calls for a bolder, darker frame. Plus, I don’t find him attractive so there’s that as well.

    • SouthernGirlRena

Nerdy cute is my favorite. I would give T and/or Lo the jacket. I think that would take the preciousness down quite a bit.

    • Cheryl

I know it’s just me, but I really hate the stretch elastic on cuffs, collars and jacket bottoms. There is something fratty about it that just makes me ill. I do love the colour of the jacket.

      • http://batman-news.com boweryboy

        No. It’s not just you.

    • decormaven

Take the tie away and we’ll start talking.

    • Imasewsure

Ditch the tie and I think it would work, although for the venue, UBERNERD cuteness might be almost appropriate

    • appliquer

Love the outfit – and the shoes!

    • lalahartma

      Ugh, that tie. :(

    • Danielle

I’ll make passes at boys who wear glasses. UNF.

    • BobStPaul

I think he looks great. I’d bet he’s dressed for a business meeting before or after the premiere and if so this is the perfect attire for such – including the tie. I would not like this as much if he were without the tie that most people hate.

    • Kim Albrechtsen

I don’t mind the outfit at all…However I’m just not keen on the jacket color. Ehh.

    • Rand Ortega

Ragging on that level of cutesy poo would be like stomping on aforementioned kittens and puppies. He’s adorbs. He’s the shiny new 7th grade math teacher all the kids & teachers have a crush on.

    • laura

Matt! What did you do to your gorgeous hair?! Where did it go? :(
      Still adorable, though.

      • James

He had to cut it off for a role, it’s done now so it’ll grow back soon!

        • laura

          Oh, phew, good :)

    • IMNAngryLiberal

If he replaced the shirt & tie with a Sponge Bob Squarepants t-shirt (or other “superhero” T), THEN it would be maximum cute .. although puppies and kittens never hurt.

    • butterflysunita

Usually comments on Matt Bomer posts are exclusively: “He’s so hot….sigh.” This time everyone is critiquing his outfit. I think that means he really screwed up style wise this time.

    • kimmeister

Now I’m wondering if my husband could pull off wearing his blue/green plaid shirt with his navy/gray striped tie. Hmmm . . .

    • Bradio311

Way way WAY too precious and put together to the nth degree. But then he always is. Yawn.

    • Ashleigh

He makes me want to jitterbug!!

    • EEKstl

Yes, a bit precious but I just (still!) have so much trouble moving beyond how freakishly handsome he is that I just tend not to notice his attire.

    • RuthGo

It is a lot of preciousness but he can kind of carry it off. There is just something cute and sweet about him. And boy, he can rock a pair of nerd glasses.

    • Mary Elizabeth Poytinger Baume

no,never. I love him like no one else I have ever loved before…never seen him make a style mis-step. he is adorable.

    • GeoDiva

Rather see him in a suit…. but I’ll take Matt Boomer any day!

    • Trickytrisha

That jacket reminds me so much of the Naugahyde (oh god) recliner my mom used to have. Poor naugas. Anyhoo, he’s a cutie.

    • webslice33

yeah too fashiony for a real guy to pull this off..but of course he can..

    • Blair Sylvester

That face manages to pull focus from the mint green leather bomber jacket so that’s impressive . Also I love the glasses

    • lobsterlen

That is a stunning jacket. The color is gorgeous. The problem is that color clashes with everything else he is wearing. The shirt and tie are sucking the life from the jacket. That jacket needs to stand out more.

    • Jacob Bowen

Wow, I LOVE that haircut on him! And I would take the tie off of him (and everything else of course) to make this PERFECT.

    • formerlyAnon

I think he’s the epitome of cute boyish nerd with retro-throwback touches. Completely not my type, so of course I find it over done and bordering on boy-twee. I suspect others may find him scrumptiously perfect, though.

    • joything

D’aw. Can I take him home?

    • Jacqueline Wessel

High school geometry teacher/basketball coach circa 1962

    • MzzPants

I don’t think it’s too precious. He can’t help that he’s fucking adorable.

    • kerryev

I think he’s on the right side of precious as long as he keeps the unfussy hair. And doesn’t do these glasses plus anything else late 40s-early 50s (i.e. that jacket), in the same outfit, all that often.

    • JynxTheCat

HOW LAZY ARE THESE MAKEUP PEOPLE?! You cannot get much more high profile than this. COvering his whiskers with sponged on or blown on concealer is HORRIBLE. He now has blue whiskers. This is SO EASY not to do. First Johnny Depp now Matt Boomer. FIRE SOMEONE!
