It’s long past time to put Saturday’s Academy Museum Gala to bed, wouldn’t you say? If you’ve missed any of our extensive, days-long coverage, you can click here and get all caught up. In just a few short years, this event has become both an ersatz Met Gala as well as the more or less official kick off to the Oscars. The campaigning starts here. Or at the very least, it ramps up considerably.
Alison Brie in Oscar de la Renta

Well DAMN. Okay, Trudy Campbell! She tends toward a Klum-like sexy-tacky, and this is a more upscale version of it. She looks amazing
Anna Kendrick in Carolina Herrera

It’s a classic design straight out of 1955, except it has the kind of neckline that would have gotten a woman arrested for sporting it on the street that year. The textile is very pretty, but it’s hard for us to let go of the feeling that the proportions are off. And yes, it needed a pendant. A delicate one.
Christina Ricci in Chloé

The disheveled design isn’t bad, but she needed a killer pair of shoes to finish it off and those awful, over-sized things pretty much ruin it.
Cristin Milioti in Lanvin

Beautiful. She needs a cocktail ring.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph in Christian Siriano

Oof. Not one of Siriano’s better efforts. From her history, it’s clear she asks for some form of coverage across her midsection, but there are better options than this.
Demi Moore in Prada

Oh, wow. It is so nice to see her in such a rich color and such a dramatic silhouette. Her Oscar campaign last year had her sporting way too many slinky gowns, but this style really elevates her whole look. The skirt design is interesting and elegant, but we’re not as in love with the asymmetrical bust.
Elizabeth Debicki in Armani Privé

Also a pleasant surprise. We think it’s completely understandable that her style tended to default to “I’m really tall,” with outfits that emphasized her model proportions but ultimately had no real personality to them. This is cute. We don’t think we’ve ever called any of her outfits that. Hair and makeup are gorgeous.
Emily Ratajkowski in Jean Paul Gaultier

Formal bathing suit.
Eva Longoria in Elie Saab

The sheer panels are tacky — not necessarily because of the slight exposure, but because their design turns her into a circus tent.
Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas in Stella McCartney

We know Stella’s not popular around here, but we love how well-suited Inga is to the goddessy weirdness of this.
Isla Fisher in Yara Shoemaker

No argument here.
Kerry Washington in Giorgio Armani

It’s a weird and awkwardly designed bodice that only serves to confuse the eye..
Laura Dern in Miu Miu

Someone needs to do an intervention.
Lauren Miller Rogen (in Erdem) and Seth Rogen (in Brunello Cucinelli)

What a strong, unusual color. She has impressive confidence for attempting it, but she must know herself well, because it looks great on her. The design is interesting but we’d remove some of the silver embellishments. COMPLETELY IN LOVE with his gorgeous brown tux, which is not something we thought we’d ever type. Head to toe, he’s flawless.
Mikey Madison in Dior

It’s not a standard sheer lace gown, for which we’ll give it a little credit. The ribbon sash is completely unnecessary. If this were lined, it would be very pretty. She looks uncomfortable in it.
Olivia Rodrigo in Armani Privé

We were going to suggest this would be better without the crop, but the more we look at it, the more we like the combination of classic romanticism with youthful sexy.
Olivia Wilde in Saint Laurent

It’s not the kind of look we’d recommend for a super-glam event like this, but we’re impressed by the choice. It’s sharp and stark and imposing, which is kind of cool.
Riley Keough in Chanel

Boy, they really stayed up late burning the midnight oil at the House of Chanel coming up with this intricate design, didn’t they?
Rose Byrne in Celine

LOVE.
Sydney Sweeney in Armani Privé

Honestly? The keyhole’s a little awkward, but this is a Personal Best.
