Emmy® Magazine Takes a Deep Dive into Terrifying Prequel to Ridley Scott’s Legendary ALIEN Space-horror Franchise with New Series Creator Noah Hawley.

In ALIEN: EARTH, Star Sydney Chandler Plays A ‘hybrid’ — The First Adult Robot Infused with a Child’s Consciousness.

ALIEN: EARTH, which premiered Aug. 12 on FX and Hulu, is an electrifying new prequel series inspired by its namesake’s groundbreaking sci-fi universe and marks the Ridley Scott franchise’s first foray into episodic long-form storytelling, set primarily on planet Earth.

Sydney Chandler (daughter of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and BLOODLINE actor Kyle Chandler) plays its main character, Wendy, who, after a technological procedure designed to advance immortality, becomes the first “hybrid” prototype, a humanoid robot infused with human consciousness.

Emmy® Award–winning executive producer, creator, writer and director Noah Hawley on casting:

“It was especially tricky because it required a grown-up who could tap into a child’s intellect and emotions. The hardest thing in a lead role is that you have to see every thought and feeling that a character is having — and Sydney is transparent in a way that is rare.”

Chandler on her starring role:

“As an ALIEN fan, all I wanted to do was honor that we are working in the vein of this legendary franchise.”

Executive producer Noah Hawley on avoiding the use of green screens to create the series’ spectacular visual effects:

“I’m a big believer in making something that looks like it cost twice as much as the budget I had.”

Actor Babou Ceesay, who plays cyborg Morrow, on the show’s set design:

“That set was extraordinary. I could touch it, press switches. Everything was as interactive as possible. It felt like we were doing something important.”
