We gave Vanessa Kirby her own spotlight post because she wore the kind of dress that demands a spotlight, but it’s time to check in on the rest of the attendees of the LA premiere of Fantastic Four: First Steps. Evidently, there were two rules to the dress code: No ties are allowed and all the dresses have to be tacky! Receipts:
Dave Bautista
While we tend to think the various pieces are kind of random and that the look is over-styled, it all really suits him and he’s not in danger of looking like anyone else there. We’d have suggested ditching the hat, but it tends to give him swag, so it’s not a dealbreaker for us.
Ebon Moss-Bachrach
It’s a gorgeous tuxedo. We don’t understand why you’d choose to wear it so half-assedly.
Joseph Quinn in Givenchy
Again, we just don’t get why you’d wear a dinner jacket without a tie. Just wear a blazer or a suit if you’re so opposed to neckwear.
Julia Garner in Gucci
Hunh. We guess she felt she had to go with a shade of blue for this one, but we wouldn’t have been mad if she’d stuck to theme-dressing in silver. This is okay. The touches of green lend it a lot of interest, but the textile looks chintzy.
Natasha Lyonne in LaQuan Smith
We’re so tired of these tacky-ass frocks.
Paul Walter Hauser
A tie! A goofy one, sure, but at least he’s sporting some neckwear. The tux could’ve used some tailoring. Those sleeves look silly.
Pedro Pascal (in Tom Ford) and Lux Pascal (in Gianfranco Ferré)
She looks gorgeous and he is almost making this unlikely combination work for him. The tux is gorgeous, we love the frames, and the curls look great. We’re fine with the scarf, but we hate how it’s tied and we don’t think the tank top works at all. If he really wanted to sport a scoop neck, it might have been better for him in black. You might think we’re nuts, but we think removing the shirt completely would benefit the look.
Ralph Ineson
Love the shoes. That’s all we got.
Simu Liu
We’re impressed. He’s never been bad at the red carpet, but this is a surprising level of flawlessness. The problem with silk shirts worn without a tie is that they tend to collapse, but it’s not a dealbreaker for us in this instance.
Skai Jackson in Archival Alberto Makali
Unphotogenic and tacky. Sorry, girl.
Tony Revolori
The pose is weird, but the outfit’s pretty great.
Xochitl Gomez
She’s a good Marvel girl who shows up to every single premiere, just waiting for the day she’ll be called up off the bench again. We sure hope she’s in that Avengers movie, for her sake. Anyway, this is all very cute, tipping its hat to the film’s 1960s setting and aesthetic. The hair takes it into costume, however.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II
It’s just okay. He’ll be playing Wonder Man in an upcoming MCU Disney+ series, which is why he’s sporting the red shades.
