It’s FRIDAY, darlings! Let’s celebrate the shit outta that! Choose a spot in the sun or the shade to call your own and then choose a different spot as the mood strikes you. Repeat. Repeatedly.

Madelyn Cline Is Ready to Graduate
With two movies coming this summer, the Outer Banks star thinks it’s time for her to grow up again.

Cline’s ascent happened at just the right time. OBX, as it’s come to be known, can be called one of the great hits of the streaming age, helped in no small part by the show’s timely premiere in April 2020; the show, a gorgeously cast teen Treasure Island, drifts not too far from the shores of reality. (Cline and her other-side-of-the-tracks love interest, played by the heartthrob Chase Stokes, dated for several months, but broke up in 2021.) Data company Luminate estimated 1.2 billion minutes were watched during the most recent season 4’s premiere week, which nets out to more than 2,000 years of consecutive viewing, give or take a decade.

Sharks, ‘Sweethearts’ and Subs: 19 Docs and Real-Life Series to Watch This Summer
Whether you’re seeking true-crime tales, celebrity-focused fare or a closer look at the world around you, there’s something new for various tastes.

It’s the dog days of summer, and breezy beach reads and beach-based series abound.
But maybe real-life stories are more your thing. If so, we’ve rounded up a list of some the latest docu-series and documentaries to watch this summer.

The Outlander Prequel: Everything We Know About the Upcoming Starz Series
The official trailer for Outlander: Blood of My Blood is full of nostalgia.

Get ready! The Outlander prequel, Blood of My Blood, is on its way. The 10-episode series won’t just center on the lives and relationship of Jamie Fraser’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, in the early 18th-century Scottish Highlands, but will also explore the origin story of Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, in World War I England.
“We’re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples,” showrunner, executive producer, and writer Matthew B. Roberts said in a statement. “The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods, and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie.”

Can Superman Win the Culture War?
A right-wing backlash erupted when James Gunn described the hero of his new film as an “immigrant” who models “kindness.” But the Man of Steel has faced these attacks before—going back to 85 years.

Have you gotten a load of this new Superman? He’s an obnoxious do-gooder, meddles in international affairs to stop wars from happening, and isn’t even really from here. That sums up the Fox News–stoked media uproar that’s already swirling around James Gunn’s new take on the DC hero. It was sparked by a remark the filmmaker made about the hero being an “immigrant” in a movie “that says basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost.”
“He’s creating a moat of woke, enlightened opinion around him,” Greg Gutfeld said on the July 7 episode of The Five. “We don’t go to the movie theater to be lectured to and to have somebody throw their ideology onto us,” former Trump administration official Kellyanne Conway added in the segment, which was titled “Superwoke.” “He fights for truth, justice, and your preferred pronouns,” Jesse Watters cracked, adding: “You know what it says on his cape? MS-13!” For good measure, Conway also took a personal swipe at Superman star David Corenswet: “Guess he didn’t change it to a better stage name.” (The actor’s surname originates from his Russian Jewish roots.)

There’s no end of choice when it comes to fragrance these days. From fresh, green fougères to sexy, amber-y musks, you can find something for even the most discerning and picky of noses out there. But with so much choice comes indecision—with no end of classic houses and niche perfumeries, it can be hard to know what scent to invest in. Luckily, the judges of the very first Marie Claire Fragrance Awards have just made that a lot easier… Ahead, the winners of the “fragrance families” category.

These Mesh Ballet Flats Have Earned Our Fashion Director the Most Compliments
Plus seven other chic styles to shop

While elevated everyday wardrobe basics are universally adored, fashion-forward pieces—much like Marmite—come with a caveat: you’ll either love them or loathe them. Take the Labubu bag charm trend or the novelty bag boom, for instance. Yet it’s a modern take on an old classic that’s currently stealing the spotlight. Enter: the mesh ballet flat.

The One Essential Item in Every Fashion Editor’s Summer Wardrobe? A Chic Linen Dress
If you thought linen dresses only came in straight-cut silhouettes and neutral hues, think again

Every fashion editor, stylist and designer has a handful of summer styling tips up their sleeve—whether they’re slipping into mesh ballet flats (avoiding the sweaty situation of their fully closed counterparts), opting for eye-catching jewellery sandals, or styling multiple outfits around a classic denim mini skirt. Yet perhaps the most important—and often overlooked—element of any chic summer wardrobe is the fabric itself. And in every fashion editor’s warm-weather line-up, you’re sure to find plenty of linen.
Why? Crafted from flax plants, linen is a natural fibre, meaning it’s breathable, helps keep you cool, and reduces that sticky, sweaty feeling. No cling-to-your-body shirts or dresses here. And for those, like me, who lean into the ‘woo woo’ world, linen is also said to have a higher frequency than the human body—with some claiming it can boost energy levels and reduce stress. Believe it if you wish.

10 Chinese designers shaking up the fashion world
The secret’s out.

The label “Made in China” comes with a lot of baggage, but a handful of designers are quietly turning these preconceived notions on their heads, creating some of the most exciting collections in fashion.
“A few years ago, I read a book about the world economy, and it talked about how ‘Made in Japan’ in the 1980s was exactly what ‘Made in China’ in the 2000-2010s was like,” says Wei Lin, co-founder of innovative NYC fashion label PH5. Wei is the daughter of a Chinese knitwear manufacturer, and together with Parsons-trained, award-winning designer, Zoe Champion, the duo have been creating fashion-forward, science-powered knitwear since 2014. “Japan was the hub for low-price manufacturing back in the day, but now, look at what ‘Made in Japan’ has become. Now the label stands for quality, style, durability, and authenticity. I think ‘Made in China’ is getting there.”

Emma Watson Is Happy, Independent, and Focused on Education at 35
Watson hasn’t been seen on the big screen since 2019—and though she has not retired from acting, she’s been busier lately with her education and the gin brand she runs with her brother.

In April, Emma Watson turned 35 years old. She also celebrated more than five years away from the movies: The last time we saw her on the big screen was in Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Little Women, released back in 2019.
Though Watson has been largely away from the spotlight since then, she has kept busy. She started an MA in creative writing at Oxford University in 2023; according to the Daily Mail, university life captivates her so much that she also started a PhD program this year.
Perhaps Watson is making up for lost time. When she finished secondary school, she didn’t immediately enter university because she was committed to filming the last two installments of the Harry Potter series. She took a gap year, then enrolled at Brown University to study English. Watson graduated in five years instead of four because she took two semesters off to film projects like My Week With Marilyn, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Bling Ring, This Is the End, and Noah.

You got the chop! Here’s how to keep it looking fresh and cool all summer long

Congrats! You finally got that short pixie cut you’ve been mood-boarding for ages. Now what?

The Most Beloved Celebrity Scents Ever
From the sweet and fruity to the dark and seductive.

For A-listers, a custom fragrance is a rite of passage. Some capitalize on the celebrity’s “relatable” persona; others are glamorous and polarizing (think: Lady Gaga’s black perfume, which went on clear and was described as “seductive”). Below, the most beloved celebrity scents.

A Guide to Ring Bearer Duties for the Littlest Member of Your Wedding Ceremony
The ring bearer is always one of the most adorable members of any wedding party. The origins of the role actually have their roots in ancient Egypt, where a young boy would be enlisted to carry rings to a couple as a symbol of love, fidelity, and fertility. While the role still includes the all-important task of getting the wedding bands down the aisle, today, it’s more of an excuse to bring a sweet touch to your wedding and include a beloved young family member or friend in your special day. While it is not a required role in the wedding party, the ring bearer can be a crowd favorite at the ceremony—without taking the spotlight away from you and your spouse-to-be, of course.
Want to know the ins and outs before you ask a ring bearer to join your celebration?

Anne Hathaway’s Dedication to Sun Protection Is Inspiring
In many ways, Anne Hathaway is just like us. She’s enjoying her summer in Italy (one of the most popular travel destinations of 2025)—the Amalfi Coast, to be exact. There with husband Adam Shulman and their children, The Devil Wears Prada actor has been snorkeling and boating in unusual summer style that’s somehow both more modest and flamboyant than any old two-piece—a tie-dyed UPF clothing set.
“Much like SPF can be an ingredient in a lotion or cream that protects against harmful UV rays, UPF is a weave or type of fabric that does the same thing,” says Mona A. Gohara, MD, an associate clinical professor of dermatology at Yale School of Medicine.

V-ISITS: Hôtel Plaza Athénée
A “New Look” at the historic, Dorchester Collection-owned fashion hub

On Avenue Montaigne, where the heart of Parisian haute couture and ready-to-wear beats most loudly, the Hôtel Plaza Athénée stands draped in red awnings and balconies spilling over with geraniums. For over a century, this legendary, 208-room hotel has been more than a luxury address; rather, it has played an essential role in the story of fashion itself. In particular, its history is stitched into the fabric of Christian Dior’s legacy, and continues even today to set the stage for Paris Fashion Week and beyond.
Which is to say, even if you’ve never seen Hôtel Plaza Athénée in person, you’ve certainly seen it in your feed.

Tyler Perry Accuser Derek Dixon Speaks: “I Couldn’t Stay Silent Anymore”
In his first interview since filing a $260 million sexual assault claim against the Madea creator, actor Derek Dixon says he felt compelled to go public because “everyone deserves to go to work and do their job without their boss trying to have sex with them.”

Actor Derek Dixon says the process of bringing his recent bombshell lawsuit for sexual harassment and assault against Atlanta entertainment mogul Tyler Perry has been “terrifying.” But in his first interview since filing the $260 million claim against Perry in Los Angeles Superior Court on June 13, he says he felt compelled to speak out because, “I couldn’t just let him get away with this.”
“Everyone deserves to go to work and do their job without their boss trying to have sex with them,” Dixon says. “My goal is to help ensure that the next generation of actors and creatives don’t have to choose between their dreams and their dignity.”

The King offers a never-seen-before glimpse into his travels through the eyes of his Royal Tour artists as 70 works from his private collection go on display at Buckingham Palace
Charcoal, oils, watercolour – anything goes! To mark 40 years of the King inviting artists with him on Royal Tours, he has hand-picked a selection – usually on display at his private residences – to showcase the breadth, depth and brilliance of this initiative

Imagine if every time you went away, you brought an artist of your choice to capture some of the pivotal, even everyday, moments from your travels: a transcendent lake vista or a group of Gauchos out on the Pampas of Uruguay. Your iPhone recollections replaced with sweeping impressions in charcoal, watercolour or oil paint. Well, that is exactly what His Majesty King Charles has been doing since 1985, when – at his own expense – he invited an artist, John Ward, to accompany him, and paint scenes from a seventeen-day royal tour of Italy starting in Sardinia.

When Novels Mattered
It plays a much smaller role in our national life, and this has a dehumanizing effect on our culture.

I’m old enough to remember when novelists were big-time. When I was in college in the 1980s, new novels from Philip Roth, Toni Morrison, Saul Bellow, John Updike, Alice Walker and others were cultural events. There were reviews and counter-reviews and arguments about the reviews.
It’s not just my nostalgia that’s inventing this. In the mid- to late 20th century, literary fiction attracted huge audiences. If you look at the Publisher’s Weekly list of best-selling novels of 1962, you find works by Katherine Anne Porter, Herman Wouk and J.D. Salinger. The next year you find books by Mary McCarthy and John O’Hara. From a recent Substack essay called “The Cultural Decline of Literary Fiction” by Owen Yingling, I learned that E.L. Doctorow’s “Ragtime” was the best-selling book of 1974, Roth’s “Portnoy’s Complaint” was the best-selling book of 1969, Vladimir Nabokov’s “Lolita” was No. 3 in 1958 and Boris Pasternak’s “Doctor Zhivago” was No. 1.

Can ‘Reparenting’ Yourself Make You Happier?
The concept, centered around healing your ‘inner child,’ is catchy. Here’s what experts have to say.

Laura Wells, 54, a fitness coach in Fort Worth, Texas, felt silly when she first tried giving herself a hug.
Then, she realized, “it really helps.”
It’s one of the ways that she is attempting to “reparent” herself — by meeting emotional needs that she says were neglected during her childhood.
The idea of reparenting has been around for decades, but the practice has flourished in recent years as interest in trauma-informed therapy has soared. It is now the subject of books, podcasts and TikTok hashtags.

What Superman’s Pet Owes to a Badly Behaved Rescue Dog
For the furry sidekick, Krypto, in “Superman,” the director James Gunn found inspiration — and a physical model — in his own unruly pet.

About three years ago, the director James Gunn was trying to figure out the arc of what would become his new blockbuster “Superman.” Then he adopted a dog.
He named the scruffy rescue Ozu, after the Japanese filmmaker known for his serene works. At about 8 months old, Ozu the dog was not at all peaceful. After surviving a hoarding situation, Ozu was fearful of humans and intensely destructive. He chewed up furniture, shoes and even a $10,000 computer. He also ate one of Gunn’s wife’s tampons out of a wastebasket, necessitating a trip to the vet. Gunn realized that if Ozu had been superpowered, the damage would have been even worse. “It was where the movie came together for me,” he said in a video call.

Lena Dunham Gets Into Bed With Mel Ottenberg
Lena Dunham—actor, writer, director, showrunner, and voice of a generation—is back with Too Much, a semi-autobiographical Netflix series starring Meg Stalter as Jessica, a thirty something producer who moves to London to reset her life in the wake of heartbreak. The comedy has shades of Girls, the 2010s HBO show that continues to define Dunham’s career, but this time, her stand-in is all grownup. Or at least trying to be. “It’s about what happens when you start a relationship in your thirties,” Dunham tells Interview editor-in-chief Mel Ottenberg over yuzu sodas in his Manhattan apartment.“You have the baggage of past relationships. The baggage of how you see yourself and how others have seen you.” The result is a sharp comedy laced with real dramatic stakes, but what shines through is Dunham’s humanity. Like Jessica, she’s a giver. And for the viewer, it’s never enough.

The Health Benefits of Carrot Juice—Plus How It Compares to Whole Carrots
The sweet juice is a nutritional powerhouse.

If you enjoy the sweet earthiness of carrots, try juicing them; it’s a delightful way to concentrate their flavor. You’ll also be able to enjoy the benefits of carrot juice, as the drink is rich in certain key nutrients. Juicing separates the solids and liquids, allowing the antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals in carrots to become concentrated in the liquid, resulting in a nutrient-packed beverage.
Though not a substitute for water, carrot juice can help increase your intake of said nutrients. It’s also a delicious alternative to more common juices, such as orange or apple. To make sure your carrot juice is healthy, choose one that has little to no added sugars. Better yet, make carrot juice at home so you can control the ingredients and enjoy all the nutritional perks this vibrant elixir has to offer. Learn all about them here, plus how they compare to whole carrots, according to nutritionists.

Slice of Queen Elizabeth’s 77-Year-Old Wedding Cake Sells for More Than $3K—and the Buyer Is Going to Eat It
The buyer plans to flambé it in rum.

Would you eat a 77-year-old slice of cake? One royal fan intends to do just that after winning a slice of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s wedding cake from 1947, which sold for about $3,669 at a recent auction.
The coveted slice of perfectly preserved fruit cake was purchased by Gerry Layton, who also owns a piece of King Charles and Princess Diana’s 1981 wedding cake, The Telegraph reports. It is one of the last pieces of cake from the royal wedding in existence. Despite its rarity, Layton plans to eat it.
