Because we won’t declare our Oscars 2021 coverage concluded until we’ve wrung every bit of fashion out of it that we can find, darlings. And also because Jurnee Smollett, wherever she was heading to spend Oscars night, looked utterly fabulous in this and it deserves recognition:

We have written many, many words on the subject of sheer gowns over the years. More words than any two men should rightly lay claim to on the subject. But there is one point we’ve tried to repeat in all that time: If you’re going to design a see-through dress, make it an interesting one, at least. In other words, don’t make the sheerness the whole point of the design because we’ve seen that way too much to ever consider it clever or interesting. This has so much wild, sparkly drag glamour to it that the sheerness barely registers. This probably would have been a nightmare to wrangle into shape for an actual red carpet appearance, let alone a night sitting through the awards ceremony. But it’s the perfect Hollywood Glam frock to sport for an Oscars party. She looks fantastic.
