Wow. These three bombshells kinda nailed it.
We’ve noted this before but it bears some repeating: there’s a way for an ensemble cast of women to dress for the premiere that comes off coordinated without any of them sacrificing their individuality or forcing themselves into something that doesn’t suit them. It’s not a requirement that casts do this sort of thing, but it does tend to make for more dazzling publicity photos. To be fair, they don’t entirely look like they’re going to the same event, largely because Margot’s gown is so much more formal and exuberant than the other two looks, but somehow, it feels like they’re all subtly defining themselves while relying on the obvious similarities in their looks to serve as a through-line.
Nicole Kidman in Saint Laurent
LOVE this for her – especially since it’s not the kind of thing she’d normally wear to a premiere like this one. It feels like a statement; like she’s saying she’s established herself well enough that she doesn’t have to go for the Full Princess if she doesn’t feel like it. We adore the jacket, but it hangs off her a little oddly, like it needed some adjusting.
Margot Robbie in Giambattista Valli Couture
We don’t like tiered skirts at all and this one hasn’t changed our mind, but the overall look is such an “I’M THE INGENUE HERE” flex that we feel like we have to applaud it. The color’s pretty and the style suits her, but those weird ruffles erupting out of the top of the bust aren’t great.
Charlize Theron in Dior Couture
Honestly, we hate the hate the design of the dress. The neckline is too broad and the skirt looks like it got mangled at the drycleaner. But she knows what works for and what she can work with, and this kind of look? She can make it sing in her sleep. If it’s not effortless for her, she’s damn good at making it look like it is.
Sure, it’s all a show for the cameras, but this is pretty cute.
