The Superfriends rock out at Comic-Con:
Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck attend the Warner Bros. Pictures panel and presentation during Comic-Con International 2014 in San Diego, California.
There’s very little to discuss from a fashion perspective, but once again we can’t help thinking this would’ve been such an awesome opportunity for each of them to come out wearing Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman t-shirts. These pics are kinda dull because the outfits are so nondescript. And since fandom has given Affleck and Gadot such a hard time (for not embodying each fan’s personal vision for the characters), it would’ve been seen as a cheeky and fun response. Must we tell you everything, stars? Tsk.
On the other hand, this outfit got a TON of attention when it was unveiled:
Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”
We’ve seen plenty of fan grumbling about this (which is to be expected, since no costume was ever going to make all the fans happy), but we think it looks pretty damn good. The colors are too muddy, but all of the PR images from this film have been desaturated, so it’s kind of hard to tell what the final colors will look like on film. The Lynda Carter bathing suit was never going to fly in 2014 (and the character hasn’t worn that costume in the comics for several years anyway). This, to us, looks like an attempt to take the costume as far away from that campy, ’70s version while still leaving her recognizable as Wonder Woman. Gone is the WWII-inspired iconography of star-spangled panties and eagle bustiers. Instead, they went for the “Warrior Princess” schtick. And while there have been plenty of derisive comments about how this ripped off Xena’s costume, the fact of the matter is, Xena ripped off Wonder Woman’s costume. Our only complaints (aside from the color issue) come down to the desire to see some sort of straps holding that bust up and noting the wedge heels, which are going to look very silly if she tries to run in them. We suppose it’s possible the heels are only to make her appear taller next to her co-stars and won’t be seen in the film, but that seems unlikely given their prominence in this picture.
We like it, though. She looks strong and charismatic, with a Bronze Age edge to her.
