There were multiple awards shows over the weekend, which means it’s rundown time, darlings. The stars came out in some dazzling fits for the NAACP Image Awards, but of course we have thoughts and quibbles to share. Let’s get to assessing, shall we?
Chase Infiniti in Tamara Ralph

We’re sorry to say, it’s a rare miss for her. It might even be her very first miss. We think that off-white/pale pink color story is a tough one for her, but that slash of lipstick red makes the whole thing look kind of garish and cheap. The glove was a bad idea.
Chloe Bailey in Christian Siriano

The wings look annoying to wear, but it’s an interesting shape and that’s a not-boring way of interpreting the sheer dress so we’ll call it a win.
Colman Domingo in Sergio Hudson

That color looks amazing on him. So amazing that it’s the only color in 99% of the ensemble? Maybe not, but it’s dramatic as hell. We’re not totally in love with the boots but we like the idea of something to draw the eye away from all that corn.
Halle Bailey in Stéphane Rolland

That’s dramatically gorgeous but the embellishments look like the public artwork in an office building lobby.
Janelle James in Do Long

This is really fun and made us smile. Those things look like pull tabs on cans, which is perhaps not so fabulous if not highly impractical. We can’t imagine she wasn’t catching on things all night. The color looks gorgeous on her, but again, we’d have liked some contrast.
Keke Palmer in Miss Sohee

It’s… okay. It’s the trim running under the bust and the huge marabou shrug that kind of tip it over into slightly tacky. The gown is beautiful and over-embellishing it was a mistake.
Kerry Washington in Sergio Hudson

Simple and stunning. Even with the bigass bow. Or the big assbow, as the case may be.
Quinta Brunson in Gabriela Hearst

Love the design, don’t love the color story. It’s kind of messing with our brains because the pattern and colors automatically reads as autumn leaves.
Teyana Taylor in Ashi Studio

Stunning, sculptural, and possibly one of the most conventional looks she’s worn all season. The bust is cutting into her a little, but with that design, we don’t see how that can be avoided.
Tyla in Jean Paul Gaultier

Shrug. We don’t know. Clearly, the thinking was that the collar necklace was going to do all the heavy lifting, but it really looks like she’s not full dressed; like she’s supposed to put on a jacket or shrug or gloves or a belt — ANYTHING.
Tyler James Williams in Sergio Hudson

Cute. We don’t love big fashion flowers, but we’ll make an exception in this case.
Viola Davis in Marmar Halim

The color is gorgeous, but the design makes it look like muscle tissue, which is not very fabulous or flattering. Also, the makeup gun was set on “Decimate” accidentally.
Wunmi Mosaku in Christian Siriano

Pure gorgeousness, although we don’t love the shape of the bodice.
