We’ll repeat here what we posted on social media last night as soon as we saw Jessie Buckley step out onto the Oscars red carpet:

Now that is a motherfucking Best Actress gown. It just looks like it belongs in that infographic of every Best Actress gown that circulates every year. It speaks of prestige and glamour and elegance. It has an Old Hollywood vibe which is, in this case, quite deliberately referential. It was inspired by Grace Kelly’s gown at the 1956 Oscars. We don’t normally love designs that restrict the wearer’s movements, but in this case, the dress was designed for someone to stand and hold a trophy while wearing it. Pink and red is a tough combo and not everyone responds well to it, but her own pale coloring works to her benefit here. Personally, we think the pink is just a skosh too saturated and could have been paler, but that’s our only quibble. The jewelry is gorgeous and her hair is perfect.
