We’ve been covering Bugonia star Emma Stone long enough to know her style preferences well. It was one of the reasons why we didn’t do an “ology” post for her this year; the other being that she clearly wasn’t campaigning all that hard for what might have been her third Oscar. So when she showed up to the ceremony dressed like the ghost of Empress Josephine in her nightgown, we can’t say we were surprised.

But we still don’t understand it. She has such an established preference for styles that don’t suit her in the slightest. Some of that comes down to her longstanding Louis Vuitton ambassadorship, which has supplied her with a succession of awkward wares over the years. The only part of the design here that we don’t like are those goofy cap sleeves. Our issue is more about how unsuited she is to the dress. Slinky styles just don’t do much for her and the white washes her out. We could see someone like Chase Infiniti turning this dress into a Moment, but here it’s just a fleeting thought; totally forgettable.
