In a move that is surely going to delight the Bitter Kittens, The Housemaid star Sydney Sweeney came to the Santa Barbara Film Festival channeling Marilyn Monroe in one of the most iconic dresses she ever wore — and that lady probably wore the highest number of iconic dresses in history.

This doesn’t appear to be the actual dress by designer Ceil Chapman that Monroe wore on the cover of Life magazine in 1952, but it’s a very similar Chapman design from the same period. It’s perhaps notable that the style is far more demure than her usual preferences. The neckline is very pretty on her but we absolutely hate the design of the sleeves; not just the ruching, but the loose cuffs and the length. The hem length is awkward and we can’t tell if that bad hem job is original or something her team executed. The slightly yellowed off-white looks good with her hair, but she’s in desperate need of color somewhere else in the outfit. Those shoes are a terrible choice, not just for the color, but also the style, which really doesn’t go with this dress. Black patent stilettos should’ve been the choice here.
