The cast (and inspiration) of Is This Thing On? came out for the London premiere and we’re afraid we’re going to have to be a little mean to some of them. Let’s go.
Bradley Cooper

We don’t know. Yes, he’s the director, but he also stars in the film and this just looks way too dreary and businesslike for any actor on a red carpet. Forget stylishness or trendiness, we don’t think he actually looks good even in a real-world way. If a co-worker showed up looking like this, wouldn’t you wonder if they were okay? He looks depressed and ungroomed.
Laura Dern in Elie Saab

We think we might have liked this more if it were knee length, but it’s probably the best dress she’s worn in a year or two so we’ll call it a win for her. We just wish there was some sort of color involved. Can’t say we’re loving that necklace all that much.
Will Arnett

What… this is…
We’re speechless. We sincerely don’t get this. Like, he’s literally working to look as uninvolved and disinterested as he possibly can. You are the star of the picture you’re promoting. No one’s asking for a tuxedo or even a fancier suit, but he looks like he’s on a bender.
John Bishop

For the Americans (who don’t watch Doctor Who), John is the English comedian upon which this film’s story is based. No shade against Will Arnett, but it’s pretty unusual when the movie based on a comedian’s life casts someone who isn’t quite so much the leading man as the actual comedian. Anyway, this has to be strange for him and we hope they paid him a ton of money. The suit’s nice, but the jacket’s a little short. We don’t love the turtleneck, but it coordinates well with his hair, which is gorgeous.
Andra Day in Hanifa

We presume that Andra addressed the group chat thusly: “You guys can show up in your depression outfits, but I’m planning on being stylish about it.” We love every bit of this and we don’t think it’s the kind of look that just anyone can pull off.
