LACMA Art + Film Gala 2025: Lorde in Versace

We were trying to figure out a joke about Lorde never being royal but loving herself a gold metallic anyway, but then we realized we would sound practically decrepit, as anyone must when attempting to joke about stars a generation or two younger than them and besides, that song’s over a decade in the past. Instead, we’ll just show you the gown she wore to the LACMA Art + Film Gala and note that it’s both an unusual choice for her as well as the best thing she’s worn on a red carpet — or at the very least, the most conventional:

We’ve always been big supporters of bronze and pewter on red carpets, because gold and silver tend to be overdone and not everyone looks good working that level of brilliance. She couldn’t be better suited to a bronze and brown gown and we love the colors on her. The bodice is stunning, but the skirt looks like a tacked-on afterthought, we’re sorry to say. This is a great example of a formal, glamorous look that doesn’t actually ask for makeup. We really like the stark styling here. It suits her and it sets off that necklace beautifully.
