Kaia Gerber and Cindy Crawford had a little mother-daughter bonding time at the LACMA Art + Film Gala, as one does when one is an internationally famous supermodel who is also coincidentally related to an internationally famous supermodel.

That is a deeply weird way for a mother and daughter to be posing, but we suppose expectations are different for internationally famous supermodels.

They look amazing, of course. It would be difficult for them to look otherwise. Smartly, they both chose relatively simple gowns that play to their strengths. Cindy is still all about those curves while Kaia works a more lithe sort of look. Cindy’s watch and Kaia’s cocktail ring both strike us as slightly off choices to go with their gowns, but that’s the only critique we have and it couldn’t be more nitpicky. We just wanted to feature them so we could go off on our favorite entertainment press annoyance: the absolute insistence that daughters of famous women are all younger versions of them, completely indistinguishable, sporting the exact same face. Honestly, there’s something a little weird about it and you don’t see the same “twinning” rhetoric when the press writes about famous sons of famous fathers. There’s this questionable need to compare famous mothers with their daughters and there’s something about it that strikes us as a little ageist.
