We saw a trailer for Song Sung Blue in the theater last night and it looks like such a charming, feel-good, “little film that could” vibe to it that it makes us all the more confused by the promo style of stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson. If we were in charge of things, we’d have them both hitting these events looking like they expected an Oscar nomination any second now. Low-key prestige with a touch of glam; impeccable dressy-casual looks that really sell the idea that this is a film worth considering. Instead, we keep getting this:
“We sort of made a movie so we guess maybe some of you should go see it.” There’s more energy and excitement in the backdrop than in their outfits.
He’s been wearing the same dreary priest suit on every stop of this tour, strenuously avoiding shirts with buttons, like a five-year-old. It’s so low effort as to feel like no effort at all. A shrug of an approach.
She’s at least been trying throughout this tour. We can’t claim she hasn’t been trying to sell this one. Unfortunately, her taste has always run toward the tacky, so when she tries to tone things down a little, it winds up looking generic and dull. That bust design is a hate crime.
