Natalie Portman came to the Lumière Film Festival in Lyon for a screening of Black Swan and a Master Class discussion following. We imagine it must feel like a lovely validation to have your work professionally appraised and discussed a decade later. To mark this quietly triumphant professional moment…
… she wore a very silly skirt. Look, we get that she’s a longstanding Dior ambassador, and it just makes good sense (if it’s not contractually obligated) for her to show up sporting something from Jonathan Anderson’s much-discussed first collection for the house. We can even understand (but still strongly oppose) the impulse to want to dress in something ballerina-adjacent without lapsing too much into cosplay. But the combination of that tutu and those ballet slipper-style shows certainly does bring the look fairly close to a stage costume. We don’t have anything against silly little skirts in the right time and place, but this isn’t a good one for a sitting-down situation and that top looks dumb as hell with that skirt.
