Billie Piper on embracing the darkness, loving messy women, and being a child prodigy
The Hollywood multi-hyphenate talks joining the cast of Wednesday, mother-daughter relationships and channelling her outcast energy.

In Netflix’s Wednesday, the titular character’s first words to Isadora Capri, played by Billie Piper are: “I’ve always been fascinated by child prodigies. The focus, the talent, the unrelenting quest for excellence.” When I enter the Conde Nast office studio and find Piper kneeling on the floor in an expert pose for her shoot with Glamour magazine, this interaction takes on a new life.
Capri, the new head of music at Wednesday’s spooky school Nevermore, completed her first classical album at the age of 10 – but the sentiment works just as well for Piper in reality too. Since 1998, Piper has held the record as the youngest solo artist to debut at number one on the UK Singles Chart with Because We Want To (it is also still one of only a few CDs I played in my Walkman before society pivoted to mp3). “Why do you always hang around in crowds? Why do you always say what’s on your mind? The lyrics are really controlling for a 15-year-old,” laughs the entertainer, now 42. Consistently on the edge of infectious, and possibly nervous giggling, Piper is alarmingly relatable and self-reflective for a child star.

Jennifer Aniston finally reveals why she’s never attended the Met Gala
The Emmy-winning actor confirms she’s been invited to the annual event that brings together the biggest stars from entertainment, sports, music and politics.

Jennifer Aniston has always been the quintessential L.A. girl. From her signature flip flops and tank tops to her sun-kissed bronde hair, she epitomises what we think of as California style, as eponymous to L.A. as the Dodgers, palm trees, and green juice.
But Aniston has also spent plenty of time on the East Coast New York as well. Whether she’s filming The Morning Show on location or dining out with friends or a rumoured new relationship, she’s obviously comfortable navigating New York City.
So, why then, has Jennifer Aniston—one of the biggest TV and movie stars on the planet—never attended fashion’s biggest night? She’s been a staple at the Emmys, the Oscars, the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards, but never the Met Gala, the exclusive annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

Riz Ahmed: ‘The Biggest Thing I’ve learnt Is Don’t Try And Control The Process – Surrender To It’
The actor’s emotional depth on screen has skyrocketed him to the top of every director’s wish list. With a television series he both created and stars in on the horizon, and three films on the way – including a visceral new take on Hamlet – he reflects on his unstoppable ascent.

Riz Ahmed’s wife, the acclaimed author Fatima Farheen Mirza, hasn’t watched all of his films. In her defence, there’s a lot to get through. Since his breakout in the late-Noughties British indie films Shifty and Four Lions, he’s scaled the heights of Hollywood, shape-shifting through dark action movies such as Nightcrawler; epic franchises including Star Wars and Bourne; and a range of critics’ picks like Sound of Metal, which earned him an Oscar nomination. ‘It makes me happy our relationship [began] outside of work. It’s a running joke that she hadn’t seen a lot of my stuff when we got together,’ Ahmed says over coffee with Mirza in an arts club in London, where they have recently moved their young family.

The ‘ripped bob’ is shaping up to be autumn’s coolest haircut
When it comes to seasonal hair trends, one haircut always seems to be in fashion: the bob. And for autumn, we’re seriously crushing on the ripped bob – the cooler, choppy cousin of Sofia Richie’s classic French bob.
“Instead of sharp, blunt edges, the ripped bob embraces lived-in, effortless movement,” says Melissa Timperley, a celebrity hairstylist and founder of Melissa Salons. “It features a predominantly one-length cut but with softly frayed, piece-y ends that bring out the texture of torn or ripped paper.” Think model off-duty vibes, which is why Elsa Hosk, Gigi Hadid, Halle Berry and Hailey Bieber are the ripped bob’s poster girls.

11 best hard water shower filters 2025, tested & reviewed
These devices filter out hard water minerals and impurities that can damage hair and skin.

I never thought a simple shower upgrade could make such a difference, but after trying the best hard water shower filters, my hair feels softer and I’ve even noticed a difference in my skin. Hard water can contribute to dry skin, brittle hair, and scalp issues. In fact, research shows that around 60% of the UK has hard or very hard water, so a shower head upgrade could benefit many of us.
Filtered shower heads have likely appeared on your FYP recently, and while TikTok is full of unsolicited beauty tips, experts agree that hard water shower filters are more than just a fleeting trend. Beyond the lingering chlorine scent, hard water harbours chemicals and contaminants like heavy metals that strip the skin of natural oils, causing dryness, irritation, and clogged pores. For hair, it can lead to brittleness, breakage, and scalp issues. And if that’s not already enough, it can also fade coloured hair.

Long tops with leggings is the ’80s trend making a major comeback in 2025
Wearing long tops with leggings of all kinds, even stirrups, is back. We know, we know: The outfit combination is so 1980s that it might feel intimidating to replicate, but we’ve also seen ’90s minimalism and Y2K-tinged looks become cool again. And this retro outfit idea is totally worth revisiting: it’s a unique, eye-catching combination that looks very cool.
Designers and street style stars have been reviving the long-top-and-leggings look in the past year so much that it’s clear this outfit has been officially taken out of the time capsule. That doesn’t mean it’s old-fashioned, though. In fact, these fashion experts are showing us how to give the outfit a modern twist.

To Get the Perfect Manicure, You Need to Figure Out What Nail Length Really Suits Your Hands—Here’s How
And it’s actually pretty simple…

I’ve always been looking for the perfect manicure—you know, the one that instantly makes you seem put together, elongates your hands, and goes with whatever the vibe is on that particular day. Some people have this nailed (pun unintended), but others like myself are always switching it up in pursuit of a mani that works with everything.
However, according to session manicurist, Sophia Stylianou, what I may have been searching for all along is the nail length that suits my hands best. “It’s the foundation that determines how polished, elegant, edgy, or understated your hands look. The right length can elongate the fingers and even alter the perception of nail colour or nail art.” And this can even change the look and feel of your mani: “A short nail with nude polish feels clean and modern, while the same colour on a long nail looks glamorous and statement-making,” she explains. Read on to see how to figure out what nail length suits you.

This Once-Preppy Print Just Got Cool Again—Here’s How to Wear Gingham in 2025
Perfect for the for in-between weather

Fashion trends move fast—especially in an era dominated by micro-trends and endless social media scrolling. And yet, some looks have a way of sticking around, quietly proving their staying power: animal print, capri pants, and peplum tops, to name but a few. Each subtly reinvented to feel just a touch more modern.
But then there are the truly timeless patterns that need little modification at all. Enter gingham: a clean, checked design that has remained a wardrobe staple for decades, effortlessly straddling the line between playful and polished.

30 Burgundy Hair-Color Ideas to Try This Fall
The deep wine shade is the boldest take on red.

Shades of red are without a doubt having a moment, but burgundy hair color is the coolest, most daring take on the trend. Not for the faint of heart, it takes everything that makes red great—including that it’s eye-catching, flattering, and unique—and dials it up to 100. It also has a slight ’90s vibe (another of-the-moment trend) but still feels totally current thanks to the recent uptick in red shades. And if even the brightest of coppers feels too natural to you, burgundy is a guaranteed way to stand out from the crowd.

The Best Wedding Bouquets in Vogue
In need of wedding bouquet ideas? You’re not alone: The bouquet has been a nuptial staple since the days of ancient Rome when brides carried bunches of blooms for good luck due to the longtime association of flowers with fertility and life. While such societal superstitions have faded, the beauty they bring for walks down the aisle has made this tradition survive for millennia.
Often, the flowers within a bouquet are embedded with romantic symbolism—for her wedding to Prince Albert, for example, Queen Victoria carried her husband’s favorite flower of snowdrops. Fast forward a few royal generations, and Kate Middleton chose a bouquet of lilies (representing happiness), hyacinths (representing love), and ivy (representing friendship) for her wedding to Prince William. Both women also included a sprig of myrtle due to its long visual associations with matrimony.

6 Wheated Whiskeys That Showcase the Softer Side of Bourbon
Wheated bourbon, explained — and why bartenders and collectors love it.

Bourbon and rye get most of the attention within American whiskey circles, but wheated whiskey occupies a special niche within this spirited landscape.
According to the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), wheat whiskey must be composed of a minimum 51% wheat and aged in new charred oak barrels. There aren’t many wheat whiskeys on the market. “Wheated whiskey,” however, is a looser designation that simply refers to whiskeys — usually bourbons — that feature wheat in their mashbills, often in place of rye.

From Cocoa Puffs to Cheerios — How Cereal Stopped Being Fun
Once a highlight of childhood grocery trips, the cereal aisle has become a place where fun mascots and sugar have been replaced by math and Cheerios.

When I was a kid at the grocery store, my favorite part of the trip was when my mom would let my brothers and me run loose down the cereal aisle to each choose which box we wanted. We didn’t share very often, so each of the choices was closely monitored by the other two siblings. I might trade one bowl of my Cocoa Puffs for one some Fruity Pebbles, but definitely not for a bowl of Sugar Smacks.
The aisle was an endless opportunity for vast amounts of sugar. Almost every box of cereal had a cartoon character on it with wide eyes that followed me when I walked past them like one of those creepy paintings in a haunted house. There was Cap’n Crunch, luring me like a siren of the sea to his Regular, Crunch Berries, and Peanut Butter Crunch boxes, each one guaranteed to destroy the roof of my mouth when I ate it. Next to him was Count Chocula and Boo-Berry, the leprechaun with his magically delicious Lucky Charms, and Tony the Tiger and his frosted flakes that were so great. The regular Kellogg’s Corn Flakes had a rooster as a mascot and its eyes didn’t even have pupils, so no. Choosing my cereal was the biggest decision of my week.

Why do artists keep releasing so many album covers?
With Taylor Swift, Doja Cat, Sabrina Carpenter and Cardi B all releasing multiple alternates this year, Laura Molloy explores how overconsumption threatens to ruin music – and our planet

Since the dawn of popular music, the album cover has transcended its role as a means for simply protecting vinyl records and has become a vessel for storytelling in itself. The best covers have spawned subcultures and scandal, birthed lore and lawsuits, and even introduced microcelebrities and microtrends.
There’s Grace Jones photographed by Jean-Paul Goude on the cover of Nightclubbing, looking dazzling and otherworldly with a cigarette dangling from her lips. Or, perhaps most famously, The Beatles’ Abbey Road, which sparked conspiracy theories about Paul McCartney’s death and, more than half a century later, still frustrates London cab drivers forced to detour around its now-iconic zebra crossing.
Today, though, major artists are trading in the power of a singular, era-defining image for a carousel of alternates. Just this year, Lady Gaga, Cardi B, Doja Cat and Florence and the Machine have all released multiple ‘collectable‘ covers, each available for pre-order on vinyl.

How Lady Gaga’s ‘Wednesday’ Costume Used Bird Feathers and Silk Embroidery to Dress the Ghostly Rosaline Rotwood
SPOILER ALERT: This story contains spoilers for Season 2, Part 2 of “Wednesday,” now streaming on Netflix.
Last Halloween, Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood was accepting Variety’s creative impact award at SCAD Savannah Fest. Immediately after, she had to head to Los Angeles for a mysterious VIP fitting for “Wednesday.”
That VIP fitting turned out to be for Lady Gaga’s cameo in episode 6, “Woe Thyself.” In the series, Gaga plays a deceased ghostly teacher, Rosaline Rotwood.

‘Superman’ Sequel ‘Man of Tomorrow’ Sets July 2027 Release Date
David Corenswet will dust off his red trunks soon, as a sequel to James Gunn‘s summer hit “Superman” will fly into theaters in less than two years.
Director and DC Films co-head James Gunn took to social media on Wednesday to announce an official title and release date for the project. “Superman: Man of Tomorrow” will hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
In his announcement, Gunn included a comic book image of Superman standing next to Lex Luthor in his Warsuit, a pretty clear signal that the sequel will continue to focus on Luthor’s antipathy for the Man of Steel. In the DC comics, Luthor (played by Nicholas Hoult in the film) creates the suit in order match Superman’s strength and abilities; it seems that after the failure of his plan to use a clone of Superman to defeat him in Gunn’s first film, Luthor has decided that he needs to cut out the middle man and get the job done himself.

Even low-maintenance fabrics deserve thoughtful care.

Polyester is one of the most common fabrics found in homes and closets—and understandably so. This synthetic textile is known for both its durability and affordability.
