After a pretty decent style showing at their San Sebastian International Film Festival photo call, Ballad of a Small Player stars Colin Farrell and Fala Chen followed it up with an even better one at the film’s premiere.
Not bad at all. Let’s assess.
COLIN FARRELL
Part of us feels that a black, double-breasted pin-striped suit has an inherent level of formality that makes it a poor choice to pair with a t-shirt. We also tend to think that these more wide-legged styles also don’t lend themselves to a t-shirt. Everything about the suit screams for a dress shirt and a tie. Still, he looks sharp and we’re grateful it wasn’t a white t-shirt.
FALA CHEN
We’re not big fans of fabric flowers and we tend to be bored by sheer skirts, but this is elegant and pretty. It suits her very well and the lack of color lends it sophistication. The mani color is gorgeous. Neither of these looks are jawdropping or head-turning, but they don’t have to be, because they’re quietly chic and we can’t honestly find a thing wrong with either of them, t-shirt aside.
ABOUT THE MOVIE:
Lord Doyle (Colin Farrell) is laying low in Macau – spending his days and nights on the casino floors, drinking heavily and gambling what little money he has left. Struggling to keep up with his fast-rising debts, he is offered a lifeline by the mysterious Dao Ming (Fala Chen), a casino employee with secrets of her own.
However, in hot pursuit is Cynthia Blithe (Tilda Swinton) – a private investigator ready to confront Doyle with what he is running from. As Doyle tries to climb to salvation, the confines of reality start to close in.
