We always feel that it must be strange for actors to still be doing premiere red carpets and photo calls for a film months after it hit theaters, but it strikes us downright tragic when a star has to do it for a film that flopped. In related news, here’s Ana de Armas in Tokyo for the premiere of Ballerina, which we could have sworn opened in like February, but it went into wide release only two months ago.
Along with the question of how a star might feel about trying to sell a flop post-flop, the more interesting question to us is the one about how to dress for the occasion. Do you pull out all the stops in a moment of defiant glamour or do you quietly go about your business, get the job done and head out to forget the whole thing while you party in Tokyo nightclubs? Ana seems to have settled on splitting the difference and offering up what we can only call Drab Glamour. Or maybe Depressed Sparkle. Such a weirdly unflattering collection of elements. An outfit that’s trying to do way too much and winds up delivering almost no impact at all.
